  1. I thought under Bush logic that means he is REDUCING terrorism - suicide bomber dies = 1 less terrorist. Isn't that the whole point of Iraq attract all the badies and let them blow themselves up away from us civies so its all good. 2. unfortunately the "eat sand Saddam" (nice phrase), mindset with virtually no post war planning has resulted in terrorist havens. One of Bush's key strategies is eliminating safe havens for terrorists - defined by his team as "lawless states without proper government". He's created 1 haven (Iraq) & not solved Afganistan. At least one reason why Bush politically should have got into bed with the UN at the beginning, was that they have beauracrates who are better than his team at that type of planning. Secondly while I dislike the man, strategically if he had engaged the UN, he could blame them for the shite nation building - and keep his nose clean. 3. Bush is good at planning for war - just hopeless at planning for the post war phase. This has been proven in Afganistan & Iraq. Maybe he doesn't think he'll win and therefore no need to bother? By now he should have learn't his lesson - but maybe its politics - No US troops for Nation building thing? Who knows but some of us are getting pissed off with him blowing countries up & leaving them in ruins Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. first answer - drunk driving requires she get caught in the act by the police - we've tried but when a police car appears on the road at 1am - her kids phone her and she parks up - its not that easy... Secondly it is not only the UK that has screwed up laws (& some are: read up on Tony Martin you'll enjoy that one) but last night there was an article on the California three strikes and you're out law - people there have been given 25 yrs (life) for stealing a slice of pizza. I think thats as screwed up as anything we've got. I am sure we could all list screwed up laws from ALL countries that we live in (but we've got to keep politicians and lawyers busy ) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  5. and the reason Bush got Florida was http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3960679.stm Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  6. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3961557.stm More freedom from Bush? Seems he doesn't want "foreign" visitors to his site... Or maybe it's a conspiracy to prevent disgruntled US citizens in Iraq from having their say Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  7. firstly I believe ASBO's mostly result in a fixed penalty fine (mr2mk1g can probably clarify this). I seriously doubt that the ASBO's are handed out arbitarily as the UK has very high burdens of proof. Personal experience we have an alcoholic neighbour who runs around naked (yuch 50 yr old woman), drives drunk (extremely drunk) and causes on average so many 999 calls that most of us are on first name terms with the emergency services - but still the burden of proof is not high enough... It's ok though as we have "free" terrorists here in the UK courtesy of the US government torturing them and thereby prejudicing a free & fair trial - i'd rather see that problem cleaned up first Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  8. thats what caught my eye... I have no idea on why or where these reporters were involved that warranted arrest - but the fact that it affects "press freedom" I assume means that someone deemed the arrests a supression of free speech. Journalists getting arrested for reporting bad news about the government is the stuff that results in countries having leadership like Mugabe (Zimbabwe = 155 in the list) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  10. http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=11715 for a country that puts itself out as the "land of the free" I find it interesting how low they are on the list... Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  11. Seems to me that there is still concensus that the weapons were there - or maybe the Pentagon in just plain incompetant and this NBC reporter should replace them? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. agh I see it was all Blix's fault Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  13. you're just saying that cause you're not from a "free" country & big brother is watching you 24/7 on CCTV Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  14. I realise the question is based on the armchair general - 20/20 hindsight principle
  15. Well hopefully someone would ask of Woodward, Bush & Kerry 1) The questions do not ask "why" the war was necessary 2) Why state 72 days after 9/11 - why did he believe that Iraq was involved in 9/11 (which is implied in the question by tying it in days since 9/11) when his senior aides were telling him it was Afganistan & Bin Laden. 3) If Bush is anti-terrorism why does he fund it in order to overthrow Sponsors of terrorism - Northern Alliance in Afganistan, Kurds in Iraq? 16. What concerns me is - surely this comes under gross negligence/incompetance? The IAEA clearly had documented sites with known explosives/military equipment. Surely the first thing you do when you invade is to "secure" these sites. I mean they planned for the oil sites why not these? 350 tons is probably a decent supply for the "insurgents" - a standard 18 wheeler is 30 tons I guess so its dozen 18 wheelers full of explosives. 17. Well our "war" to prevent terror has scored another resounding success - not http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3950493.stm 350 tons of conventional military explosives have gone "missing" since the US led invasion. Explosives were previously monitored by the UN prior to the invasion... Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  18. Well my wife is going to freak out. She entrusted our 4 yr old twins to me for the day while she went out I have been working for 2 hours with noise around me - to notice that they have "washed" the kitchen, painted the lounge floor, painted themselves & generally torn the place up! Don't know how they've done it but it's going to take time to put right... Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  19. I don't see a problem with it for some of the "minor" crimes. I am not sure if they still do it - but when I was younger in Zimbabwe the police were allowed to "cane" offenders for certain minor crimes. The punishment was issued by a judge (number of strikes etc) and from memory it was a fibreglass rod and they laid a salt laden blanket across your bare arse... (my older brother was the recipient due to "teenage" pranks) - no prison problem was solved and no criminal record either. He soon got over the pain and didn't need hospital treatment to patch him up. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  20. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3762028.stm Well we now know that the US will not have "free & fair" elections in Florida - CrazyIvan for one is not going to be able to resist is he?? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  21. you need to be carefull here. At 100Mph you will lose your licence. We got a new car recently BMW sport and I was sitting on cruise control at 100 and a cop came up behind so I dropped to 70 ASAP and he sat and tailed us for about 15 minutes... Luckily I haven't ever had a ticket but then I usually stick to the limit Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  22. Lets hope that somebody out there finds a way to resolve this mess. I find it really sad how many people are dying in Iraq. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  23. sorry Rhino I couldn't resist quoting this statement you made. So have you joined "the Kerry gang"? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
