hmmm.... i've put probably 700 jumps over the past 3.5 year son my bev freefly suit (freeflying, flatflying, packing, etc) and have not had an issue with it in terms of workmanship and quality of materials (the dealer talked me into a sucky color scheme, but it was my first suit, so what did i know?) Mind you, that's only 700 jumps, but for a suit that didn't FEEL particularly sturdy ( i think i could go to war in my dakine suit) it has held up without an issue. that's what i thought, but i was just checking. yeah... go figure, a collision like that and a premie, all on the same jump, NOT involving the same people, and all caught on the only camera on the jump. Lucky all around, nobody was hurt, and i got the footage.. but mostly that nobody was hurt Blue skies. Yes and no. I worked for a guy who ran a fuel hauling company and he said that while most gas stations' gas comes from the same big tank at the distributor, most of them have their own set of additives/detergents that get added after the fact. Also most companies only require that the stations use a certain % of "company" gas and they the fill the rest with "generic" gas. Now, yes, for most cars it won't matter, but some engines are certainly sensitive to varying grades of gas. That being said.. "better" isn't always better. for instance, Subaru specifically recommends using 87octane and not higher because the engine is tuned for it and it can actually be detrimental to run higher gas. ROTFL..... oh that's priceless.. so anyone have a vidcard for an SGI Challenge box (the small 2u one, not the big rack-lookin thing)? last time i looked it was still an answer to a question on the rec.skydiving FAQ. So yes, they could have done BETTER research, but it IS documents in places that we (skydivers) control, so we have to assume some of the blame. stand the board on is side, have 2 heavy people holding it and a lighter person with the iron... though i think, photographically, the board holders in a sit and the ironer headdown would look a lot better.. That'd be tough... as there don't seem to any good statistics for skydiving injuries. Even if you just went by insuance claims, you've still got not only the problem of the large number of uninsured jumpers (though maybe this is comparable to other sports and would factor out?), but the idea that i would imagine mane jumping injuries being lied about as havign happened some other way for fear of not being covered. Also, how do you compare risk levels? does 1 jump = 1 skiing run? Is it a long run (colorado) or a short run (poconos)? For motocross, is it one race or 1 lap? This gets even more difficult with things like hangliding where 1 repetition of the activity can last quite a while... or better yet.. snowmobiling..
