  1. That's for sure. Gladly, they don't have the thinking of immediate profit. I doubt they lost money at the end of the day, even with the 3 ppl load, but I've been in some DZ's where this would be unthinkable. 2. So I live 5 minutes off Skydive San Diego... Saturday afternoon and I decided to make a fun jump. Load 17 had just taken off. Got my ticket and went to the manifest. The nice lady was on the phone and signaled to me with her hands "two" - "zero"... Ok, I was on for load 20 right? Here I am, sitting on the packing area looking at load 19 taking off... She came to me and said... "hey, you were supposed to be on that plane!" I said "no... you said load 20"... she said "I said 20 minutes..." Ok, now I feel like dumb and prepared to go home without jumping (and probably with $25 bucks less on my pocket)... That's when she goes out of her way and really amazes me... she asked the other pilot to take me (and two more guys laying around because load 20 was already crowded) to give us a "quick lift" to 13,5. I have to say it was the roomiest twin otter I've ever been... (not to say about the climb rate! yeeey) Skydive San Diego was already my home DZ, but now they really captivated me... Thanks! You guys are awsome! Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare.

It depends on how rigorous the judges are with the video quality. I've been in championships where the 2nd point on the hill (icepick) would be a bust simply because the video doesn't show the right hand gripping the cat... same thing happens with the 3rd icepick. You have to "assume" the grips are made but you actually don't see the hands... 6. That's because it would never pass the brazilian aviation standards to leave the "experimental" status just to be clear... not under FAA jurisdiction... and if someone asks me I will deny... actually, my dog is the one typing on the keyboard Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare.
  7. At my former home DZ, we had a couple planes (including an experimental cessna 195 turbine) with no door. I never had a problem with that, except the day we had to travel to another city and I had no parachute... that was scary. But the official "documentary" videos are good... go figure. France opened a good margin on 8-way Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare.
  9. It does. Thanks. In fact, citing the USPA SIM just enticed mycuriosity of reading that paragraph and a couple of other ones (priviledges of A license for example). In my old DZ (outside USA), we used to organize a 2-way (RW) cup with a very interesting requirement... the pair must be formed by an experienced and an inexperienced jumper. Obviously the experienced guy was attracted by the awards (usually cash or equipment), but the best thing was the side effects... 1-Newly formed students and cat. A that were otherwise idle and would at some point give up the sport were presented to some "quality" (from their point of view) jumps 2-Most of cat. D jumpers were willing to train the cat. A guys for free and some even pay their own slot. 3-The competition awakened something in the novices and we realized those guys had a higher retention rate than students/cat.A's that weren't participating. After a couple rounds of competition, everybody benefited... the DZ owner obviously from the competition, but more importantly from the frequent customers he wouldn't have otherwise... the DZ safety increased (novices would go up to do "head down" when they didn't even now how to belly fly), etc... So I'm thinking about organizing something like this in my DZ... Any experiences around here? 10. What is the minimum number of jumps or category necessary for one to perform a 2-way with someone that is experienced (cat >= C)? (I mean, in the US) Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare.
  11. As expected he doesn't want payment for his work... so I'll have to buy a few jump tickets and force down his throat Since I just bought all my stuff used, he spent more than 2 hours just inspecting every bit and piece of my equipment... he is very detail oriented. Really nice guy. Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare.
  12. I second that! I waited 14 years and 1300 jumps and finally I tat'd my arm... I will take a photo and post it here later... if anybody is still watching this defunct thread... 13. Thanks for the info. In truth, this friend of mine is the rigger and if I know him, he will not want to charge, what I think is not fair... so I just wanted to know how much money I have to force down his throat
  14. Hi All, I just bought a container (javelin nj), main (stiletto 120) and reserve (pdr126), no AAD. Since I've been away from the sport for a while, I don't know what is cheap or expensive anymore (in terms of service).. so what price range (california) should I expect to be charged to have my gear assembled by a professional rigger? Just spoke with some of my friends defending Brazil at the 2008 World Parachuting Championships at Maubeuge... people are starting to arrive and weather is perfect right now from what he says. It seems there will be live coverate on their website: http://www.maubeuge2008.org/ So what's your guess? USA? France? Russia? 18. Since I never had a tattoo before, I'm not thinking about it (I remember I had more fear prior to my second jump :)) But I heard that before too.... heck... 20. Very interesting questions... While I don't know the answer, with the advent of self-publishing houses such as blurb.com and lulu.com, it would be really great if someone would take the time to do a proper research and edit a book along the same lines... 21. That's right. The point is not being outlaw or not (thing that we have been already for many many years), but if the youtube phenomenon will increase our fear of being prosecuted to the point we change our way of doing stuff... Personal view: if it's only me, the video guy and the tandem passenger, I'd play whatever song I or the passenger likes.... but if I were the DZO and video was offered by my company, I'd definitely be more concerned. 22. Or it could be a good opportunity to learn how to make your own music
  23. Renting a car sounds like the best option, thanks to our non-existant public transportation network... San Diego to Perris should be a really short drive (less than 2 hours depending on traffic) Una volta che avrete imparato a Volare, camminerete sulla terra guardando il cielo perchè è là che siete stati ed è là che vorrete tornare.
  24. That's a really good question... I read the article yesterday, and seeing that the record industry is going after lyrics websites, it got me concerned. Where I used to work as a videoman, people would bring their own soundtracks (usually some van halen song), which under my understanding, doesn't free you from the copyright liability.
