  1. Hey all, I've been racking my brain for over a month now trying to design a tattoo that represents my love of skydiving. I don't want just a dude parachuting or something lame like that, so I figured a bird may symbolize the whole flight thing, but that seemed kinda lame too. Bottom line, I can't come up with anything good, and I was wondering if any of you have a cool tattoo you got that symbolizes your skydiving, and if you could share your ideas. Aloha.
  2. Hey all, I just had my 7th jump this Saturday (2 more AFF jumps to graduate), and I did really well on the jump, up until the landing. All previous landings were nice and smooth for me. But this time, I bit it hard. The instructor told me that it wasn't totally my fault, and that my canopy got hit with a "downward draft" when I was about 20 feet off the ground. I was very fortunate to walk away injury free, but it bruised the ego a little bit. Is it inevitable that every skydiver will eat sh*t eventually? And do the falls stop coming with experience?
  3. I'm a student, with one tandem left before my first solo. On my first tandem, I had trouble finding the ripcord. On my second, it was a little easier, but still not something I'm 100% comfortable with when I think about doing it by myself. My biggest question is; Is it easier to find the ripcord when you're solo than it is when pulling from a tandem rig?
  4. Aloha everyone, I'm a big film buff. As a surfer, I became a huge fan of entertaining surf films, like "Riding Giants," and "Blue Horizon." As a skydiver in-training, I was curious if there are any good skydiving films out there that come highly recommended? Not instructional stuff, but more documentery-style movies. Mahalo
  5. I just finished my 2nd tandem jump, and going for my 3rd (and hopefully last) this weekend. For me, I felt a lot better after the 2nd jump than I did after the 1st. My tandem master told me that one of the purposes of the tandems is to get your brain used to "censory overload." In other words, you'll be more and more relaxed every time you jump. To me, his statement made a lot of sense, and I learned it to be true.
  6. Anyone have a signature "supersticious" routine that you do before jumping? I'm new to the sport, but in playing baseball and football all my life, I grew to accept many odd, crazy, and fun superstitions. I was just curious if skydivers are the same way.
  7. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I went and did my first tandem on Saturday, and went back and did another on Monday. Both went really well, and I'm dying to get back up there and jump again. This saturday I'm gonna make my last tandem jump and my first solo. The advice has been awesome. Thanks again.
  8. Aloha, I'm new to the sport and looking to get a jumpsuit. I would appreciate some advice on what name brands to look for, and who makes quality jumpsuits that aren't outrageously over-priced. Mahalo
  9. Aloha, my first day of training is tomorrow. I'm totally psyched, but a bit nervous too. I'm hoping that maybe some of you veterans out there can tell me about a mistake that maybe you made when you started out, so that I don't make the same mistake. Much appreciated.
  10. I'm brand new to skydiving, and I've been looking into equipment on-line. When I cam across the leather hats, I thought they definetly had the potential to add some style, but I didn't really see a purpose in it. So I ask, what exactly is the purpose of the leather hat?
  11. I'm brand new to skydiving, and I was wondering if there are any good magazines out there to subscribe to that provide quality info and news on skydiving. I've searched on-line, and found a couple, but I can't tell if they're any good by the looking at the websites.
  12. Thanks so much. That article was extremly helpful.
  13. I am brand new to skydiving, and I'm going to my first day of training this weekend. I was curious what the purpose of a jumpsuit is, and why it is preferred over wearing something like a sweatsuit or whatever. Also, what type of jumpsuit do you recommend for a newcomer that is just interested in freeflying? Also, should I buy my own altimeter? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
