  1. Eh, not really Bill. A) there is a user agreement associated with the equipment. B) I'm pretty sure the FAA would have issue with it being used outside of manufacturer's guidelines. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. Your question was "what can they learn in 3 tandems that they can't learn in 2". My reply was accurate, confidence and canopy control. I work in a program that does two tandems, but the first one is always treated as a working jump. It works fine and we don't see a need for a third most of the time. What we've found in the industry with a tandem progression is student retention, confidence, skill, and ability is measurably higher with a tandem progression program. It does only work however when they are treated like students, and are not progressed till they meet all objectives of the skydives. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. I am harsh. So is the ground. The answer to your question is canopy control and confidence. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. Radios are a backup device only. If they don't work, then you should have no troubles landing safely, if you do you were either inadequately trained or are jumping inappropriate gear. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. If it's a USPA Group Member DZ, or the TI in question is a USPA member him/herself then yes it is a violation. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. Economics is probably the biggest reason followed by the increased performance and safety of a tandem progression. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. No. I'm a contractor who's paid to do a job. My going rate has a minimum. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. LOL! Someone has got to post it, though having been involved with a couple "reality" shows, I can tell you most of them are FAR from reality. ETA: confirmed by a local. Fake. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. I find the Groupon/Living social sites bring in a lower quality customer, those that are just looking for a deal, and show up with a dissatisfied attitude to begin with. Many appear not even to really wish to skydive, almost as if they are doing it just because it was on "sale". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. No, and no, and I'll bet the owner of the tandem rig would put his/her foot up the ass of the TI and everyone else involved for doing this. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. When it becomes the USFA I might agree. For now it's the USPA. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. Not near as much as you appear to be giving them credit for. The biggest thing they do not teach is judgement. Many skydiving instructors do not teach this basic survival skill. It's not in the ISP, or the SIM. It's an evaluative process that needs to be done in the environment. Freefall skills are such an minor part of staying alive in this sport, yet that's where most of the industry continues to put it's focus. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 14. No, I haven't and I've been cruising around this patch longer than most. Want an alternative criteria? Judgment and attitude. As measured by someone who has some. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Errrr.... what? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. Everyones mileage varies but I rarely had line twists (on any canopy for that matter) but the Vengeance was just a hard opener in my experience. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. Perris The Ranch ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. I think we're thinking of the same thing. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. Simply put, airlocks and cross bracing do very different things. Airlocks inhibit airflow out of the canopy once pressurized reducing the likelihood of collapse and making a firmer wing. Cross bracing reduces the distortion of the airfoil caused but the suspended weight which is most evident at high wing loadings. It does nothing to decrease airflow in or out of the canopy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. Depends on the Airlock design. The type used on the Vengance opens poorly in my opinion, including the other canopies I've jumped utilizing the same design. On the other hand there is a design I've jumped that is one of the nicest opening canopies I've ever experienced, the Paratec R.A.G.E. not a very popular canopy and has some other design features I don't like so much. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 21. I loved how they flew, all the ones I jumped opened like hand hammered shit. Aprox 200 jumps on them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. 2 quick attempts and then forget it. It may add a bit more snag factor in the event of a breakaway as a response to a downplane. It is VERY likely that a 2 out is sub 1000 feet once developed (95% of the ones I've ever seen) so more important is problem resolution and active flying of the remaining parachute. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. No excuse for that. Period. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. Do you know what you did incorrectly and how to fix it? Did you debrief? How did that go? Does your instructor know what not to do next time? Have you talked about that? If the answers are positive, go for it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  25. Stick with the Stiletto. I went back to one after a decade on cross braced pocket rockets, and I couldn't be happier. A new one will open like a dream, will get back from a spot in another country and has the performance to make you happy without the stress of being "on" every landing. Oh and if you load up a 120 past it's max, I must be in trouble. I'm 1.8 to 1.9..... love it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
