  1. Dang!! Are they even allowd to jump with camera without cutaway? Even if i where allowd i would never trust something to fall off as a weak link. Ok i see your point, in the case when there is no cutaway. But if you dont already have rules regarding cameras (or anything outside the helmet) and cutaway requrement, i would atleast suggest a DZ rule about it. And just ground those who dont follow the rules.
  2. hmm.. Thats not good. Would you say you can notice the difference? In the edges its normal to get som distorsion but how much, and what about the centre? I have seen that Opteka also sells a kind of low profile lens. Its very wide at the top which probably is good. But are they also worse than a Raynox for example? EDIT: Nevermind, i cant even mount the Opteka on my helmet. I dont have enough clearance between camera and helmet for that lens
  3. Why would that mount be any worse than a Sony on a sidemount? Or a newton sight? Everyone seems to think that when mounting a sony it should be a sturdy mount, and when you mount a GoPro or Contour they should fall of if you sneeze and that anything else is dangerous. But how is it more dangerous to have GoPro hung up in the lines than a newtonsight/sony? I have got similar questions from most people that seen my setup. First question: Is that velcro? Do you really think thats going to hold? Its 3M duallock velcro And when they cant rip off the camera they say, but it has to fall off if your lines get cought in it! Why? I have a cutaway system on my helmet just as everyone else that jumps with camera, so why should GoPros/Contours fall off when Sonys stay? Please explain because i dont understand it
  4. If you use a replacement battery it could happen. The batterytype used in the CHD is BL-5C, which everyone knows is the same batterys Nokia uses in lots of their phones. But the dimensions might not be the same, if you get a battery that is thiner the battery can shake inside the camera and lose connection. This turns off the camera and the video is corrupt. A easy fix is use standard batterys, or if you use 3:rd party batterys use some tape to make them "fater" so they fit snug inside the camera. It has never happend to me, i think the problem is more of a ground-sports-problem, where shaking and bouncing can occur.
  5. Thanks for sharing! Very nice to both listen and look at as usual
  6. Ohoh?!? Searchbutton broken again? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3788671 What i did not mention in my post in that thread is that you can add filters to the contour but not (as easily) on the gopro
  7. I see your point, but i dont think 135 degrees wideangle is much more than 110. If you are going to video tandems, 4 ways, other people skydiving etc. its enough, but when you are the video itself you need more wideangle. Any piece off glass infront of a camera will be negative if its not 100% optimized, but if its 'good enough' it might still give you a better video than without. Did a freefly jump last week where my friend grabed my foot, and because of the lack of wideangle its not on video. I could perhaps have looked down a bit more to get it on video. If you look at the stills, the quality change is not noticable, not even on the 'real video'. Actually i think the quality is better with the lens on, but that could just be a coincidence. Its kind of a no brainer to shot a video with a camera with settings for bright daylight on a cloudy day, filming dark people on a gray/white background. Did some searching for a thin lens, and found xdream http://www.xdream-optics.de/skyline.htm are they HD lenses?
  8. Thought i share what i have found out. http://www.vholdr.com/forums/tips-and-tricks/wideangle-lens-any-suggestions Im not sure its wide enough? At this test the lens was just held infront of the camera, but once its attached properly i think it will go in deeper making the 'rim' smaler. Or try to find a low profile lens.
  9. Good to know http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYkDU0lvGhQ&hd=1
  10. Why would it not be able to focus? [idiot typing] Whats the difference between the focus on a contour and any other camera? [/idiot typing] Is it your lens kits that is out on loans or your wideangle lenses? If you have a .5 could you perhaps try and just hold it infront of the camera move around, remove the lens. Just to see the difference? Please I know the 720 mode will be wider, but i want 1080
  11. Anyone tried to mount a wideangle lens on a Contour? With the lenskit you can attach a wideangle lens, but has anyone tried it? Did some math, and i think a .5 would work good on a contour. Would love to buy a lens but im not sure if it will work since the camera is already wideangled you might end up filming the "inside" of the lens.
  12. I found some more info on the G10, it seems that Canon has limited the camera to 1.1 picture/second. So that would mean you can not get more pictures per second if you lower the quality. My guess is that this is a software limit, so... finding a better software for the camera might help you. But as you might understand that could brick your camera
  13. Most likely yes, the size does matter. Usually cameras have a buffer or chache memory that is faster than the memorycard*. The camera then unloads the images to the memorycard. If this chache memory gets full the camera will have to stop taking pictures. * With the new types of memorycards that is not really true, but the read/write capabilities of the camera itself lowers the speed. When you download the images to your computer with a external memorycard reader, Yes! But in camera, No. The memorycards is not the limiting factor of a normal camera for consumers.
  14. Why would it fall off? Maybe you should run down to the store and buy some just to test its adhesive strenght?
  15. When you have time and/or RSL and/or Skyhook its a good way to (hopefully) ensure you dont end up with two out. But what happens if you dont have the above mentioned? Not enough time to pull both hands on each handle, No skyhook or RSL? I can understand why you would teach students to use both hands as they (always?) have atleast RSL, but once you have a license you might not. Im not saying because you have a A-license you need to change your EPs, but you should think of, and know what the difference are between them. And if you are sticking with the two hand way, always when jumping new gear think of how it will work with that gear.
  16. Thanks! Its not that bad. If you have a Viso, what is the deployment altitude according to it? What i have noticed with the Viso is that it records the altitude when slider is down, compared to Protrack recording at ~ linestretch. Its a good thing you didnt pull at 3000, that would mean you would run out of altitude very quickly
  17. 7 pages of replys, 157 posts. And we got one! So if we keep this thread for annother 7 pages we might get Sangi?
  18. Im not going to blame you for any of the stuff that happend. But as others said, keep in mind you might not have a RSL on the next cutaway. Borrowd rigg or the shackel might got unhooked by some reason. Also, when you get a reserveride you are under a canopy that you are not used to. I would get really pissed if i lost my helmet when i pulled my reserve. Even if i never been under the reserve yet i would belive there is lots of other things to keep your mind busy. Wheres the freebag, wheres the main, altitude, geting to know the *new* canopy, where did the helmet land, other canopys, main and freebag again, altitude, ohh shit forgot to testflare the canopy and now its too late. Be safe!
  19. Very good! Probably my most well spent hour. This automated edittool you talked about, how does it "detect the crap"? I mean if you would turn on the camera and would by misstake shake the camera, does the edittool cut that out? Or does it have to be 100% perfect videos? Very intressting stuff Thanks for the upload, really enjoyed it!
  20. Two bugs found and fixed, and one new (useful?) feature added. Bug 1: The program did not allow you to not chose a destination folder (preventing you from closing window), Fixed. Bug 2: When copying smal files the program crashed due to filesize beeing to smal, Fixed. The new feature is a description txt file. So when you rename/copy files you can create a file with a description of what the files contain. The filename of this description file will be the same as the rest of the files but without "_##". Example: you name the files "4-way April 2010". And in the description file you could type what happens in this set of files such as "Malfunction in file 3 @ 2 min, waterlanding file 5 @ 3 min". The stuff you know you have on video but dont know where
  21. Fixed a few bugs with the creating folders part of the code. It will not crash if you want to create more than one folder at the time anymore. Also added a "check if drive exists" code to make it more stable. And since its easter... No cheating
  22. I dont think thats a Viso. It looks like the backside of a Protrack
  23. I dont need a Viso II, besides who got time to replace a altimeter just as the season is about to start??? But lesson learnd: always bring the viso along to the store when i need to replace the batteries. Those fuckers are way to expensive to only get 50%
  24. The batteries are clean, but i dont know about the connectors. I have no clue if it has a spring or not. I did remove the batteries again, started it, and tried to reset it. No change yet ~3 min after reset
  25. No, wont that erase the log? Edit: I just had a look in the manual, it says: Why dont they say that on the battery replacement page?
