    Music?

Interesting that this comes up today. On those rare occasions that I take the wingsuit off, what I'm usually doing is a high clear and pull (out the door at 13,500 and under canopy before 12,000). I particularly like doing it on the sunset load - and I like it even more when I'm the only one doing it. The feeling of solitude and a chance to sort of casually stare off at the sunset at 9,000 feet can't be beat. Anyway, yesterday, I did one of my high clear and pulls on the sunset load. I brought the iPod up and listened to music during the whole canopy ride. I wasn't worried about canopy collisions (since the nearest canopy was 8,000 feet below me). I suppose, in theory, I could have worried about air traffic - but I'm told that often approaching planes aren't heard anyway. There wasn't any chance of being hit by someone from the next load, since jumping was done for the day. Particularly with the music, the whole experience was sublime. So while I'm not up to Spot's comfort level with wingsuiting with them (particularly since Spot flies a wingsuit with music much better than I do without), I'm also not ready to create blanket rules that I won't jump with others if they do. With my experience level, I wouldn't do a normal (RW/Freefly) skydive with music. And personally, I'm not comfortable doing a wingsuit jump with music - I like to hear myself screaming. But sometimes, just sometimes, the additional risk is worth the reward. I guess that like a lot of stuff about this sport, it depends. 2. I got a Storm (190) to replace my Sabre2 (210). I use it for wingsuiting pretty much exclusively. I've put four jumps on it. I really like the way it opens and handles turns, but the flare point is much lower than what I was used to. I have a lot of excess brake line, so I may have my rigger take it up an inch or two, but even with that, the flare point will be lower than on a Sabre2. That's not a criticism - it's just different, and it's something I'll no doubt get used to. Over all: strong recommend. 5. Nerdgirl said what I came to say, but I thought that the chimpanzees' (including the pigmy chimps') ancestral line diverged from the homo ancestral line 3 or 4 mya, and the gorilla's ancestral line diverged from the homo/chimp ancestral line more like 6 or 7mya, with the separation from the other apes' (oranutan and gibbon) ancestral line earlier. The separation between the monkey ancestral line and the ape/human ancestral line is way far back long before that. See http://hometown.aol.com/darwinpage/famtree4.gif My dates may be off, though, I wasn't paying much attention back then. In simpler terms: we didn't evolve from apes. We shared a common ancestor with something that evolved into apes. I never see why this is offensive to people. If you get past the notion that it doesn't match the descriptions in the Bible/Koran/Other Creation Story of your choice, you're left with a pretty cool story: we humans are one of the descendants of around 3.5 billion years of successes. Pretty neat, when you think of that lineage. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  6. Good point, Matt. Should have said "nearly very bad". Any time a "boing" noise is heard, I'm pretty we have a collision. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  7. No, you try to kill each other in the air or spectators on the ground. The mid air near canopy collision included at least one non-Tony suit... Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork

  9. So, I think we've established that both Obama and McCain "flip flop." So now the real question: who cares? Let me use an analogy we all can hopefully get. You are on final and you are gonna hit the peas. Yay you, you awesome canopy pilot. Then you see a canopy coming in off to your right. If you both keep your course, you will collide in the air. Oh, noez! Do you (A) flip flop and do a flat turn (or take some other action to avoid crashing; or (B) stay the course and just hope neither of you gets too messed up (stick to your principles! you were gonna hit the peas!). 16. Let me get this straight: You got a job in which you basically order men around, financially dominate them, bust their balls if they are difficult, and discipline them? So, basically you got a job as a wife? Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
