Mike can still build anything he cares to. Lots of the hang glider crowd have him build custom aluminum racks on their vehicles to carry their gliders. He welds aluminum better than any I've ever seen. He mentors hang glider pilots and is considered about the best there is. Really nice guy to have breakfast with as well. Mixed bag in my experience. The cats prefer to play with the mice rather than eat them. The toy eventually breaks, though. Sometimes it gets away. Not a problem. It will be caught again. The annoying part is when the cat brings birds into the house and then opens its mouth to show you. The bird is hard to get back out of the house. When I go for a walk, I take a trash bag and pick up. I have never smoked, but can't count the number of cigarette butts I have picked up in my life. I have often thought it would fun to carry a small bucket of cigarette butts and when I saw someone flick one out the window, catch them at the next light and dump the bucket in their lap with the announcement that I had been following them for a week and picking them up. I started to post on this before, but I was such a minority opinion that I skipped it. I'm with D Squared on this. If someone is interesting enough to go out with, explore the potential of that relationship. If it doesn't pan out, then move on. But if someone is interesting; treat them like they are interesting. Last year, I returned home from Wallaby Ranch in Orlando. I had spent some time with a guy named Mike Barber. Mike is a world renowned hang glider pilot who coaches at Wallaby. He has the unofficial world record for longest flight (a little over 400 miles, I think). When I got home, I was re-reading my Parachutist's Handbook in the history section. There, it mentioned that a guy named Mike Barber and a friend made the first tandem jump in Florida. Mike had mentioned that he was once into skydiving while we were having breakfast one morning. The next day, I wrote the owner of Wallaby an email to confirm this was not a quirk. Sure enough. It is the same guy. So, a pioneer in skydiving is still alive, well and a pioneer in another air sport as well. Thought someone might find that interesting. Great guy, by the way. Excellent mentor. I consider myself responsible for everything I say. I refrain from foul language, off color jokes and all kinds of stuff because I choose to be a respectful person. I don't expect the rest of the world to bend to my will no matter where I might be or who is around. I would suggest that DZs are places of business and public accomodation. As such, traditional rules of courtesy toward others should prevail. If a DZ wants an atmosphere more like a low class saloon, they shouldn't advertise to the public without fair warning. Just an opinion. And I bristle a bit that someone suggested that a DZ is an "adult" location. I see little connection between being an adult and having no self-restraint.
