  1. Perhaps I was misunderstood as I certainly had no intention of coming across as arrogant. I don't presume them to be children throwing a temper tantrum if that's what anyone thought I meant. I also don't think weakening the US/western economy constitutes an end game for AQ. It's a step for sure, and they've achieved some measure of success. . They've enjoyed tremendous success. Every time you go through TSA to board an airliner you are paying the price they've extracted. Every phone call you make overseas is likely to be monitored. Every time you can't mail a package of more than 13oz without going to the post office you're paying the price. If you pay college tuition you're paying the price of extra staff they had to employ to deal with the new rules. The list goes on and on. WE have handed them a victory that must far exceed their wildest dreams when they planned the operation.
  2. Take a trip to any ARAB country and try and find a jew...... I can find a hell of a lot of japanese here in Seattle or almost any other city in this country. I await your next strawman. Visit any research university in the USA and you will find arabs and jews sitting in classes side by side and working in laboratories side by side. The issue isn't arab and jew, it's extremists of all stripes.
  3. We spend far more than the next 20 nations combined.
  4. Yes. Until the government allows them to pay back the loans. Imagine if you took out a mortgage on your home, and had the money to pay it back, My mortgage had an early payment penalty.
  5. www.gallup.com/poll/117433/Views-Income-Taxes-Among-Positive-1956.aspx and www.gallup.com/poll/117526/Consumer-Measures-Show-Best-Signs-Start-Crisis.aspx and http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Job-Approval.aspx Looks like the right is still out of touch.
  6. Surely the money's only wasted when it can't be paid back.
  7. Not only irrelevant to JR's comment about a lie, but also my (and your) opinion on other people's likely reaction to a hypothetical situation is irrelevant too.
  8. "for the most part", "almost" They call those "Weasel words". Right, and 9 is almost more than 10.
  9. Are you now claiming that suicides don't die? you really are kallend arent you! According to the data reported by the feds to the UN, over 30,000 people die in the US annually due to gunshot. So anyone who bothers to check can see that reporting 30,000 annual firearms deaths is NOT a lie, contrary to JR's claim.
  10. How's Amtrak working out for you? How's the US Navy working out for you? I hear they did some good stuff just yesterday. I seem to recall that the CEO of GM flew to DC in his private jet to ask for taxpayers' money.
  11. About time too! www.nytimes.com/2009/04/13/us/politics/13cuba-factsheet.html The President has directed the Secretaries of State, Treasury, and Commerce to take the needed steps to: · Lift all restrictions on transactions related to the travel of family members to Cuba. · Remove restrictions on remittances to family members in Cuba. · Authorize U.S. telecommunications network providers to enter into agreements to establish fiber-optic cable and satellite telecommunications facilities linking the United States and Cuba. · License U.S. telecommunications service providers to enter into roaming service agreements with Cuba's telecommunications service providers. · License U.S. satellite radio and satellite television service providers to engage in transactions necessary to provide services to customers in Cuba. · License persons subject to U.S. jurisdiction to activate and pay U.S. and third-country service providers for telecommunications, satellite radio and satellite television services provided to individuals in Cuba. · Authorize the donation of certain consumer telecommunication devices without a license. · Add certain humanitarian items to the list of items eligible for export through licensing exceptions.
  12. Are you now claiming that suicides don't die?
  13. So you're now saying that 95% of firearms are no good for home defense. OK.
  14. Why should we only be concerned with that single scenario? It's not a single scenario. It's _every_ possible scenario except the one considered by Project SALVO. Unless we are trying to regulate the weapons used by organized infantry units for military engagements, I don't think that the SALVO results are going to provide much meaningful guidance for regulation. It's certainly convenient for you to think that.
  15. OK there's the Bible, but Sumeria and Mesopotamia undoubtedly influenced that, and on the whole Id trust the FDA over the Biblical food injunctions. Ancient Egyptian food laws also precede the Bible. “Royal Sealer of Wine” was an offical in the Pharoah's court. And if it IS the Bible, then it was for all practical and legal purposes administered by the government of the Israelites, anyway.
  16. Both ancient Greece and Ancient Rome had food safety programs. The first English food law regulating food safety, the Assize of Bread and Ale, was passed in 1202.
  17. Totally shrill and lame. Do you have any idea how much the Obamas made from his book sales? HINT - it was a bit more than $5.00
  18. Let's stop buying their oil. THAT will show them.
  19. Even cosmetics manufacturers contribute to the economy and employ workers. And the Obamas have more than $5 to spend. Who are YOU to tell them how to spend it? Did you read my whole post and got confused or just got so excited at the thought of attacking anyone that you think might think differently from you that you just responded with only reading a portion of a comment? Can we say "out of context", boys and girls? Explain how your comment "A nice way to think about it is if you only have $5 to spend, would you spend it on flour or flowers?" is IN CONTEXT with respect to the Obamas? To paraphrasea a wise man: Cast the log from your own eye before worrying about the speck in someobne else's eye.
  20. Interesting - when the word causes so much consternation and pointless bickering - you point out that if just everyone would use the version that YOU want, it would all be fine. Do you live in a box? Can you think of other words that have been redefined over the years? there's a few Mostly when words change meaning it's by an evolutionary process. In this particular instance, though, one small segment of society is forcing the change of meaning, like the same segment did 30 years ago with the word "gay" which is now totally useless for its original meaning.
  21. Obama didn't take us into Iraq, and once there, getting out was never going to be cheap. Running the war using supplemental appropriations was not Obama's doing either, but that's what we've been stuck with. Place the blame where it's due.
  22. Source: http://www.gallup.com/poll/117361/Support-Gun-Control-Laws-Time-Lows.aspx You confuse "BAN" with "CONTROL". Quite deliberate on your part, I'm sure.
