  1. NINJA TURTLES, till the day I die. I had quite the t-shirt and underwear collection when I was little. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  2. Log your first 500 for sure. I wish I would have logged more, but after my D and Pro rating I stopped logging. For rating after that you just need currency and show you meet certain requirements, so theoretically you just need to log the jumps needed for a rating after that. You may have 5000 jumps, but your log book may show 550 to get a coach or tandem rating. Like I said before I wish I had logged more, but every jump is not necessarly necessary after a certain point. Have a signing party if you have something coming up. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  3. its the bridal shorter? looks like it, but it could be the pc size in comparison that is throwing me off. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  4. I'm from Louisiana (I now live in Texas), and that DZ has been shut down for 1.5 to 2 years, now. If your in Lake Charles, Groundrush Skydiving is in Kountze, Tx, they are not open every weekend. Or come to Houston, the skydiving is good over here. Skydiving in West and Southern Lousiana has been dead for a few years now. The last year I was there, I primarily only made demo jumps. 6. Bloody nose from a boogey board. Not in the ocean, but in the sky. Note to self: Cheap styrofoam boogie boards may break in half during opening and smack you in the face. I still landed with it. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  7. No need to continue skidiving. Based on your post, you have enough knowledge about gear. Go a head and take the leap. What is the worst that can happen? Don't forget the GoPro. If its not on film, it did not happen. You should post on the Beginners Forum on basejumper.com. They will be more than kind and helpful to your questions. 9. This was my first time reading this. Sounds like someone went through a lot of trouble and applying fancy names to define a "steep track". Just my initial thoughts. Thanks for posting. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!

    Ouch

The sad thing is that my family tells me something similar and I'm only 23. Apparantly I didn't get the memo about having to get married right after high school and settle down to live the rest of my life without setting my goals too high. What was I thinking? I just finished college and got a job in Houston, and the first thing my sister told me was, "Now its time for you the settle down, get married and have kids." I just laughed it off.
  11. Yeah I'll tell the auction winner that a crazy Russian may one day demand to have the Prisoner of War flag back...:)[/pirate] If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  12. Thanks. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  13. Any good sources for a durable POW/MIA flag 5x8 or a little bigger? All my demo flags have been hand me downs thus far, but I need to buy a new one to auction off at the demo to benefit the son of a fallen jumper. This jumper passed away in a plane crash after a demo we did for the same Veteran's group last year. Thanks in advance.
  14. That made me laugh. My last girlfriend bailed me out of jail (nothing violent or intentional, just stealing some altitude) not to long beofore we broke up. So, I owed her money once we broke up. Needless to say she kept in close touch until she was paid up. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  15. Ahh. Thats the DZ I grew up at. I've been involved in some stupid stuff. I wouldn't take it back, but I wouldn't put someone in the same situation. You learn fast, but its dangerous as hell. Good times. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  16. My happy place is when I am on the edge and let go. When I am just at the point of no return. Everything seems to stay on the edge and its down to the oldest fundamental challenge in life, surving death. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!

  19. Keith was a great mentor, freiend, husband, father and grandfather. He took me under his wing when I started demo jumping and we hung around regularly. He taught me everything I know about demo jumping and how to set them up. we had many great jumps together I my short four years of jumping thus far. I was glad we got that demo in for the the Veterans earlier that morning before our accident. -TJ If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  20. When your chest strap is "loosened" it is still cinched in. When it is removed I would worry about this problem. -tjm If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  21. Last Saturday evening (10/09/10), I had an off landing on a football stadium demo. We had two demos that day. A cross country demo into a soccer field in the morning and then do our usual home game football stadium demo (we do all home games for this particular college) in the evening. The first demo was uneventful. The second demo didn't go as planned. As I was third of five out and since I forgot my altimeter at home and it was almost a night jump; I allowed a 1000 foot separation in freefall and waited for the jumper below to pull. Once he pulled at his predetermined altitude (3000 ft), I pulled in order to stay above him and maintain our landing sequence. Upon opening I expericenced a long snivel and linetwist. When I opened up into line twists I was in a dive and lost even more altitude. By the time I was open and flying straight, I was just as low or lower than our first guy down and far off the wind line. I realized soon after opening that I was too far down wind with little to no outs in this densely populated part of town. As I aimed for the stadium I am searching for outs and can't determine the exact direction of the wind (they were variable depending on altitude). As I approach the stadium the only outs are a stadium parking lot full of tailgaters and vechicles, a stadium street full of fans and one yard with a 20' gap to land in between a tree and a carport. When I realized I was coming up short, my first priorty in an emergency landing is to not harm anyone on the ground, so I hook it toward the yard (the less likely place to hit someone). As I'm coming into the yard, the only place to land was on a bush next to a stunned women who could not believe I was heading toward her. Upon hitting the ground hard I performed a decent PLF or should I say multiple PLFs as I rolled into the yard. This was the only out around this side of the stadium. The landing was so I hard, once I stood up I was glad be standing because I knew my back was not broken. I felt pressure on my ankle, but did not feel it right away because of the andrenaline. After X-rays it turned out I did not break anything, but it was just a severe sprain ankle. I never actually thought this scenario would happen and could not beleive I did not make the stadium. Moral of the story is: -Always wear an altimeter on demos in screwy winds with no good outs. Well any demo for that matter. -Always be prepared to land off no matter how many times you have done this particular demo. -Save the spectators before yourself if at all possible upon landing. -Do a good plf, If I had not done so I could have more than a sprain ankle. -If doing demos, know all your outs and be prepared to land off at all times. Which may mean you landing in someones backyard or an asphalt street. Although I made the best of a shitty situation, It is a humbling experience to land off and have to deal with landing off in a densly populated area. I see why they want you to have some experience for these types of demos. Stay safe and know your limits, -TJ If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!

  23. I've never met him personally, but he jumped around here in south Louisiana for a while and I have heard plenty of stories about him. They say he was an odd fellow and he was wild as hell. Pulling off the impossible. Outside of skydiving I heard how he was big into gymnastics and trampolining (for lack of a better term) and one day at my college (ULL) he wrote his name on the gym ceiling by jumping up and down on the trampoline. I was skeptical and checked it out. The bastard actually did it and it is still there today on one of the gurters. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  24. Who anything about selling my photos? I'm a sport jumper and like to have some videos and keep a few stills from it. The whole 2 sec. shot cannot capture every moment, so I just take it from the video. And yes the quality is not that good, but its made some good personal stills considering how I generate them. I think it is the same or better quality that the GoPro in photo mode when I've compared the two, though. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
  25. I just shoot my GoProHD in 720p mode. It takes 30 frames a second, so I just go frame by frame and choose which one I like the best and just save that frame as a picture. Works just fine. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room!
