  1. I want arnold to run for president, too bad he can't since he's not a natural born citizen, boo!! We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  2. It seems to me that people get all snazzed up when they go to church to show off their fancy clothes and show off their status in society by how nice their husband/wife and darling little kids look in their sunday clothes. I'm sure god doesn't care what you wear to church, he's against vanity (except when it comes to himself) so why does everyone get so dressed up for church? We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  3. Not sure if it's one word or two words but I like perse' or per se' (not real sure on the spelling either). as in "I wouldn't yet call myself a skydiver per se' " We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  4. "Hold my beer and watch this" We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  5. Well, if I could give up my life to give my mentally handicapped sister a chance at a normal life, I would do that, although I'm not sure if that would neccessarily be better for her or not. Would it be better to look at everything with a childs awe your whole life or better to be able to think clearly and possibly lose the awe? What a conundrum (spelling) I would also probably give up the last half of my life over forty for the next twenty years to have unlimited money to travel and live in bliss. I think that would maybe be worth it. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  6. Hey, I don't know if Las Vegas is still in need of teachers as much as it was, but there was a huge shortage of teachers because of a huge population increase, they were even offering bonuses. My dad is a teacher in Oregon and he said one of his fellow teachers moved to vegas cause the offered him a good bonus. May be worth looking into, as long as you're not a compulsive gambler. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  7. I would totally buy and hang them, as long as kids aren't around of course. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  8. I'm with you, but instead of peeing on the church, hows about we burn it down. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  9. Well, in case any of you are x-airforce specialist, there is a cool site (but not been updated in forever) called www.angryspec.com from mountain home. There are a couple cool songs and videos, check it out We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  10. Well, I love stephen King, not all of his books are all that, but the Dark Tower series is awesome!!! There are seven in all. The series takes you accross parallel worlds where this gunslinger named Roland is on a quest to find the dark tower and fix what is wrong with it before all worlds that spin around it collapse onto eachother and fall into darkness where the crimson king will rule. I definately reccomend it, far better than the harry potter books and the lord of the rings books and it took something like 20 years in the makeing. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  11. Well, I'm from Oregon, I don't own any handguns yet myself, but I do have a couple rifles. I have a friend that owns all kinds of hand guns and from what I know he's never had any problems. Plus there are plenty of places to shoot and the scenery is awesome. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  12. I have heard from many theists that the world is coming to an end, that the second coming of Christ is upon us. At my grandfather's funeral this old guy gave a little speech and said he honestly thought the world was coming to an end in the next 10 years or so. I have talked to some Christians at work, and they believe that Jesus is already on earth (or maybe they were referring to the anit-christ) but they believe that the world will definately be ending soon. Theists for thousands of years have been saying the world will end soon, anyone care to give an estimate. We die only once, but for such a very long time. 13. Nice turn around. Instead addressing the topic you try to make it about alternative thinking. I notice that throughout this exchange, you've repeatedly tried to make it about superstition or outdated incorrect beliefs or making up answers. It's like you want to make this into a Science vs. Religion issue, when I've just been asking about the science aspect of it. Don't you get it dude, he's making a great point!! You are doing the same thing that religous people like you have been doing for thousands of years. When something can't be explained, you say God did it, that is until someone can prove that it is a natural occurance. Just because we can't explain yet how life on earth was created, doesn't mean that we never will and it also doesn't mean that a God created life. Where did I use the "God did it" rationale? You might want to pay attention to what people actually say before accusing them of saying things they didn't say. This whole thing reminds of how people who question our involvement in Iraq get labelled terrorist sympathizers. He was saying that people in the past coulding explain lightning storms, so they would explain it with relegious answers, i.e. god. Then you said "you've repeatedly tried to make it about superstition or outdated incorrect beliefs or making up answers." I was merely trying to show that some day your belief that God created life on earth may be the same superstitous outdated incorrect beliefs you accused him of bringing up. Sorry if I worded it poorly or put words into your mouth. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  14. Well, I've really only known one kind of ska, don't know if there are more, I would say ska is happy punk (i consider punk more of an attitude than a genre of music) spiced up with horn intruments like trumpets and trombone. My favorite ska band is Reel Big Fish, they got some good cd's! If you haven't heard them you should check em out. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  15. >>How could you possibly know what God would or should have done or what he would have known? How could you possibly know the mind of God or his ultimate plan for mankind? Wow, exactly, just like he could not know what god would or should have done or what he would have known, how can you know god exists at all??? We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  16. So what's the scientific answer to "how did life on Earth begin?"? Incredibly stupid question. I'll pass that on to Bill Von. Nice turn around. 17. No... Agnostics are undecided between belief and non-belief. An athiest believes that there is no supreme being. A theist believes that there is a supreme being. Agnostics believe that there is a possibility of a supreme being, but acknowledge that they do not have enough evidence to decide either way. Agnostics believe that both theists and athiests have made up their minds prematurely, because there is not enough evidence to make a decision about the issue with any reasonable amount of certainty. What it comes down to is that agnosticism is a statement about knowledge, whereas theism/atheism are statements about belief. An athiest does not believe, while an agnostic does not know. I wish I still had that book "atheism, the case against god" It gave some real good reasons why there are only theists and atheists and why agnostics are in all technicallity, atheists.........but alas, I gave it to a friend before I came to Saudi Arabia where books on other religions (or atheism) other than Islam are forbidden. 18. Doesn't usually happen that way, When Galelao (not sure on the spelling) proclaimed that the earth revolved around the sun and not everything revolved around the world like most people thought, the Catholic church had him thrown in jail for blasphemy until he decided to change his mind. A few hundred years later the Catholic church made a formal apology. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  19. Why? Take a look at what is going on in many schools nowadays. The mere mention of religion brings up lawsuits. The secular movement is seeking to eliminate all reference to God in institutions. I agree that policy or education should not be based upon the bible. I also agree, however, that people should be afforded the opportunity to pray if they so choose. Sure, other kids may be bothered by those children saying grace before lunch or praying to God to help them pass the algebra test, but why are they so damned against it? Again, I'm not religious. I'd call myself atheist. But the secular movement seemingly seeks to destroy all religion and religious belief. Dawkins himself said his goal is to make every reader atheist. To me, that is dogmatic. The suggestion is far less laughable than you may think. By applying reason and logic to your statements, without the subjective feelings that you have (and not ignoring the darn good reasons for having these feelings), there is much to be learned about the similarities between the religious bible thumpers trying to shove religion down your throat and the secular movement trying to shove atheism down people's throats. There are a couple reasons why god and religion are so taboo in schools. One is the seperation of religion and state. If you are going to a private school, like a catholic one, then it's of course fine, but if you are going to a public school, religion should not be involved. Second, you need to think of everyone there. Say that 90 percent of the school is one religion, and the other 10 percent is made up of some other religions. The 90 percent may pray at lunch or whatever, but the 10 percent of lesser religions at the school may feel uncomfortable to show thier religion at the school due to being the minority or (remember how cruel kids can be) being made fun of and ridiculed by the majority. Just my opinion of course. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  20. If you want to get technical, there is no such thing as agnostic. There are only two ways of thinking, athiest and thiest, absence of belief in god or belief in god. Because an agnostic does not technically believe in god, he/she is actually an athiest. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  21. That's not correct. A belief system is a presence of X; whereas atheism is nothing more or less than an absence of X. I read someone describe himself as a "devout atheist", and that makes the pendant in me cringe, for it's an improper usage of language. Most atheists/agnostics, in fact, do not evangelize their lack of spiritual beliefs, and they do let the rest of you get on with your own beliefs. Believe me, you're complaining about a real minority of the overall sample of atheists/agnostics (in the real world; not in this blogosphere). They want nothing more than to simply be left alone about religion. That's the very reason you're largely unaware of them: because they mind their own business. You're absolutely right, there is no belief system for athiests. The definition in its self is merely an absence of belief in a higher power, while thiest is a belief in a higher power. No two athiests are the same. Some believe in the big bang theory, some believe in evolute, some believe in string theory, and some beleive in a little bit of each or nothing at all. Athiesm is not a belief system in anyway, but an absence of belief allowing for free thought and speculation on how things are and came to be other than taking the easy way out and saying, becuase god did it, or god willed it. 22. >>I can think of so many people who I would like to buy this book for. I'll take a copy of the book if you're buying, lol. One good book I read, can't remember who it was by, was called "Athiesm, The Case Against God." Some parts of it were kinda drawn out and boring, but I liked a lot of the points that were made in it. 23. This is getting of the subject of religion/morals a little bit with the Aztec/Mayan thing, but the Aztecs were a lot older than 600 years old, they were only discovered about 600 years ago by Cortez. When they were discovered they had already been around (don't really know for sure) but around long enough to have a rather large civilazation with hundreds of large pyramids, several of them larger than the Egyptian pyramids.............................Just looked it up, you were pretty close, the aztecs were apparently around about 900 years ago and conquered by Cortez in 1521. 24. Sorry, Haven't read all of this yet, just had to reply to this. I live in Saudi Arabia right now, not muslim, just an aircraft contractor, and if these muslim men were praying on the plane, then they were standing in the isles. All of the prayers, there are 4 or 5 each day, last between 1 to 3 minutes and include several positions from standing, to bending over, to kneeling with your head on the ground. Maybe they shouldn't have been thrown off the plane for this, but if they were doing it and didn't take thier seats when asked, maybe they should have been thrown off the plane. I'm going to go ahead and read some more of this now. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
  25. That is so not true dude. I forget which tribe it was I think it was either Aztec or Mayan. They developed very modern-like ethics similar to ours. Which means, we haven't evolved much since then. I don't know much about the Mayans but I seriously doubt it's the Aztecs you are talking about. Those dudes would build a pyramid, and when it was done they would kill thousands of slaves and captured soldiers from other tribes on the top of the pyramid and completely cover it in blood. We die only once, but for such a very long time. I'll believe in ghosts when I catch one in my teeth.
