  1. Chuck Norris is so fast, he could run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  2. or just lie and say you are a student. You can get the entire Adobe suite: photoshop, indesign, illustrator, go live, and acrobat, all for about $200. Journeyed.com is where i picked it up. that was a while back though. and i really was/am a student... It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  3. I planned my original spring break plans around making the concert in Albuquerque.... Way to go, Danny. Tearing your bicep? DAMMIT! Are they dicking with us, telling us he was playing with his dog, a boxer? Shit. Best drummer ever. Definitely one of my favorite bands... so talented. DAMMIT! it's okay. Date has been moved back a couple months. I'll live. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  4. alright, I'll give you that. Beer fund donations are gladly accepted... PM for further info.... It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  5. that's awesome! I actually thought about the logistics of doing some bandit jumps. I think it would be pretty fun! But that's for another thread, which I'm sure has been created many, many times. are there any 'legendary' places near this route? such as Eloy, Lodi status.... 6. it's bud light! that's almost a beer. That's high-class college beer right there... we are high rollers, unlike those keystone and NASTY-Ice lovers out there... cheap bastards It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  7. Yeah, power hour is fun. Do it with music. Much more fun. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/Patties%20Crap/IMG_0401.jpg http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/Patties%20Crap/IMG_0489.jpg http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/Patties%20Crap/IMG_0484.jpg http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/Patties%20Crap/IMG_0515.jpg http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/Patties%20Crap/IMG_0543.jpg It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  8. Ah, all good stuff to know! Thanks for that bit of input. I had actually not even considered operation hours... I have been so spoiled here with jumping 7 days a week! The trip is not really so much for the skydiving, or anything really specific. I just wanted to pack up and go somewhere without concrete plans, see where the winds take us, experience things I never have before. Skydiving was just gonna be a major, major bonus for me, haha. Really a chance to be able to sit around at boogies and such and say "yeah, I made A jump there!" About jumping in Canada: I am not fluent in French. In fact, the only french I know is from the song Lady marmolade, so... I guess if I recognize any french while i am there, good news for me! Although, I am fluent in hand signals. Hopefully that will be enough to make a couple successful jumps there.... you crazy Canada-nadians It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  9. So my first spring break as a college student is coming up, and I have a few questions for everybody, to which the answers will greatly enhance my experience. Quick summary of the trip: I currently attend San Jose State University, and skydive at Hollister mainly, but also at Davis occasionally. My friend and I will be getting in his car and day one will be a drive from Sacramento to Chico (party). Day 2, from Chico to Portland. Day 3, Portland to Seattle. Day 4 Seattle to somewhere, anywhere in Canada, because everybody ends up in Canada at some point in their life, even on a drunk bet. Day 5 back to Seattle, Day 6 down to Chico again, day 7 back in San Francisco. Now, my questions for everybody: WHERE AM I GONNA SKYDIVE ALONG THE WAY?? I did the dropzone locator, but it gives me waaay too many results. I don't wanna think I'm gonna go make some jumps and when I pull up have it be a guy in overalls laying in a lawn chair half drunk with a plane that may or may not work. Not that that would be TOO different than a lot of dropzones... but, you get it, haha. I wanna jump with some new people, get some extended experience! So, between San Francisco and Canada, what are the places I NEED to jump, in your opinions? Lodi is a given... already made plans to stop there. But mainly I am curious about the upper west--coast. Thanks for your help! It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  10. I also have a thread I started on mine.... I don't hqave the time to go find it right now though. Basically, It works great. I REALLY like the way it hugs my face, it feels very secure and intuitive. Although I would say a chin cup is a good idea, and a cutaway. I very, very much like mine. On a lighter note, my new nickname, for now and eternity, is Magneto. People love to poke fun at the helmet... even though they really like it, haha. It is an easy target... http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/IMG_9765.jpg (ironic--showing of my camera helmet and the picture is out of focus....) Although I do have to agree. It is a little face-squishy. It's not the best helmet if you are gonna have pictures of yourself taken. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  11. I am supposed to be doing the reading, writing, AND research due in an hour. as well as the homework that was due an hour ago. As well as more homework that was due yesterday, on top of homework that was due last thursday. Shit. thanks for pointing that out. I gotta go work! (IOW eat, then probably go to bed) It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  12. From my first day flying a still camera.... http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/peaceexit.jpg http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/acashman19/_MG_0250.jpg One of my favorites... ever. Perhaps because it is my own, but I like it. 13. Oh my god, this picture has made me so happy! You have no idea, actually. I recently moved to California to go to college, and all I can think about is how much I miss home. Well, your picture is most undeniably from my home DZ in New Mexico. There is no way I could have missed Elija's crazy ass beard/hair hanging out there in the wind. And judging by the jumpsuit and helmet, Kelly was your main-side instructor? Who was your photographer? (I think Adam is the only one out there with stills... maybe Matt?) Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed it. Those guys are the best, have fun with it! Tell them Alex said hi, if you would. 14. Well, I ordered my rebel from J&K, and i have no complaints from their end. It was delivered quickly, with everything I ordered, including a couple extras I bought. HOWEVER!!!!! It has been about a year and a half since I bought it, and I have already replaced pretty much everything in the package. The carrying case is cool for about a week.... becomes a huge pain in the ass. The cleaning kit is alright... but I prefer the eyeglass cleaning kit from costco. Unlimited lifetime refills, by the way. The filters are extremely useful. the 18-55 lens and 75-300 lenses are very, very standard lenses. They work, but, nothing special. Although I must say, I treasure the wideangle I got from them... a little heavy skydiving, but, for everyday stuff i have a blast with it. The tripod is a piece of crap. I had the rebel on it with the battery grip, and it snapped. Luckily, it fell onto a couch it was standing next to, by some godly miracle. Overall... yes, I got exactly what they advertised, and it was delivered for a good price, as advertised, in a timely manner. But now I have spent another $1000 in buying better stuff than they sent me... simply because i saw the extremely valuable purpose of all of it... it was just lower quality than I understood when I purchased it. Now, as an experience, successful photographer (not in skydiving yet... but getting there) I see the lure towards these packages, but the reason not to get one. Better off just getting the right stuff the first time around. I am fully aware of how this all appears to be the right stuff though... I did the same thing, obviously! Enjoy it, and good luck! 15. thanks for the input! I really do (enjoy?...... appreciate, would be a much better term) the stories. It's good to hear how extremely experienced jumpers react to certain situations. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  16. Yeah, that's a good point that was brought up yesterday when a student at the DZ asked me why I didn't jump with and RSL, and it was for that reason that I had just disconnected it. I did in fact practice taking the helmet off, just to see if it was possible. I had my roommate pull up as hard as he could on the helmet and then i tried to take it off. I could, but just as predicted, it was very hard, and nowhere near te force that a tangled canopy would be putting on it. I have full intentions of ordering a chin cup as well as a cutaway for this system in the near futures. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  17. Or these two... http://www.solarnavigator.net/images/troy_achilles_brad_pitt.jpg http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/151/15548E~Magneto-Posters.jpg After putting a number of jumps on this helmet, m new nickname is "Magneto" It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye

  19. Just got it assembled... a few mods have been made since the pictures (Tape to cover snag points, etc....) http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m41/terminalvelocity120/IMG_9301.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m41/terminalvelocity120/IMG_9308.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m41/terminalvelocity120/IMG_9299.jpg It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  20. Whoah... I never at any point had that attitude. Not since I got serious about doing this. I DID have that attitude when I first got into the sport. I didn't think a camera would be anything more than a slightly heavier helmet. Fortunately, most of the people I jump with are extremely experienced camera fliers. I had many, many long talks with them about my abilities, the dangers, changes, etc. It's hard to convey through a forum, but I am not a person to just grab some shotty equipment and go start using it. I am fully aware that my jump number and time in the sport doesn't seem like enough to some to start doing this, which is why posting here is a risk. But I have had many people guide me through this process, all of them very knowledgeable, and very straight-forward. It's funny that you posted that... right before I hopped on to check this forum, I had JUST finished doing that, literally, my fingers are still a little sticky. Thanks for the pointer though, I hadn't thought of dragging a line over it... just figure all the fun, jutting, pointy-edged should probably be a little smoother... look like it will work great now! Originally, I was going to go with the Optik Illusion. However, after seeing a picture of how the Zeus sat on the head, I decided I really like it. It looked a little less cumbersome, and also looked like it would work just as well for single camera-flying as the Illusion, since I don't plan on flying both at the same time. SO, yes, it came down to $$ again. My mentality as a college student is, I can accomplish the same goal with the Zeus as the Optik Illusion, but for $100 less. (And yes, I have been shopping used set-ups for a long time, nothing ever came along that worked for me) (I consider shopping for a long time about 6 weeks... sorry if that doesn't meet other people's standards) LASTLY... as far as cutting it away goes, I obviously can't give a much better answer than I already did. I am fully aware of that risk, and it is one that I am accepting. I am not the only person in the sport using a helmet with no cutaway system, so perhaps there will be more developments towards this. Like I said... all I can do is hope if I have to get rid of it, something plays in my favor. There is about a 1-inch gap of strap of strap, if it came to it and I (Hopefully) had time, I would go to town on it with a hook knife. I don't know. I am trying to play worst case scenario/best case solution here. Obviously, the bottom line is, I have no cutaway system, and am assuming that risk. Side Note: I called Bonehead and they said it would be possible to add one of their chin cups to this helmet, and further mods. That is definitely and option down the road, when I have the time to invest in making it all operate correctly. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  21. yeah... that's a bit of a gamble I took. Basically, what it came down to was funding. I found this lens on Ebay for $30. I figured i would give it a whirl before committing to something like a Liquid lens, which would cost around $100 more. As far as cutting it away goes.... well, I just hope that I can grab that buckle, if the need arises, and muster the strength to open/break it... or, possibly it will fail. Once again, another downside to low-budget entry-level stuff?... I don't ever really plan on flying still and video at the same time with this helmet, so hopefully that will minimize the snag risks and such. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
  22. Okay, it came in, and I got it all assembled, got to jump it... I love it! Unfortunately, the universal top mount won't be in til friday... but the bite switch came, so, stills will be a possibility in the future! A quick review: The helmet is EXTREMELY light. Almost to hte point where the camera seems especially heavy, but the cheek (guards?) help keep the helmet very secure, I don't feel like I am in any danger of losing the helmet on an opening. The only problem is, if somebody wants to take a picture of ME, it's kinda hard to smile without looking like somebody who just had their wisdom teeth out. Other than that, this is a great helmet as far as I can tell. I am extremely happy with my purchase. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m41/terminalvelocity120/IMG_9301.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m41/terminalvelocity120/IMG_9308.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m41/terminalvelocity120/IMG_9299.jpg It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
