  1. I am trying to find out the best companies to lease or rent a few turbine aircraft for a few weeks (special event). Any help would be appreciated. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  2. I jumped a few years ago with a major head cold (Just a stupid decision) and the over pressure blew out my eardrum. I now have permanenet damage and can't scuba anymore. Lesson leanrt. If you not sure, wait. Its not wortyh missing out on months of jumping for that one extra .... Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  3. +1 Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  4. Nice list, but no.1 is not that bad to teach. Getting big should be the first thing but the "ride the beachball" technique is a good way of getting students to de-arch. This used in conjunction with the "get big" is the most effective slow falling technique. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  5. I am heading down to perris june 1-9. The IHOP is full, so are all the trailers that i know. Anyone know of any spare rooms/trailers? Cheers. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  6. So are John Marx or olga. Hell, their all good at SV MTL. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  7. Who is going to P3 in May of 2010? I am landing at LAX on the 28th (wed) and am looking for people to share a car rental. I am returning home via LAX on 9 may in the evening. Also looking for people who want to do some pre jumps on thursday. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  8. Tia, If you get a chance get TJ to do some tunnel coaching with you as well. He is awesome as a coach and can help you out with all that we discussed. As we mentioned, get some weights so that you have them to use if you want but I would focus on getting out of the big BOX position first, you will find that it will increase your rate of decent enough. Many poeple in this discussion are making assumptions on your flying, such as assuming you are flying in the "legs up your butt and arms in the W position". Since these are assumptions that are not reflected in your flying I suggest you talk to TJ as he is local for you and can sort out this issue without any assumptions on how you fly. I am heading back down to cali (Perris) at the end of Apr to mid may if you want to join.

  10. Just to clarify exactly what that perspective is, you're as average as average gets. The problems you tell the OP are really 'no problem' are not problems you yourself have struggled with. I'm sure you have examples here and there, of out-of-the-ordinary situaitons where you had to struggle to keep up, but to go through it every jump for the entire freefall is another story, and can have some real negative effects on a new jumper. This was to show range of speed. as I stated above: Mia is a bit shorter then my GF and about the same weight. My GF can easily do 135mph without weight. If Mia learns to fly using weights at first she will take longer to come out of the student wide box position and fly in a nice and compact, yet comfortable position. Its true that weights do help in the beggining but If you can train to fly comfortable and compact, why not try for that as it will speed up your overall learning curve as long as you are not so far out of your comfort zone. Most new jumpers fly a HUGE box position and are still realy wide when they arch, this is very counter prodcutive as getting small is the answer = less surface area. Someone assumed I was refering to struggling each jump. This is a wrong assumption as I was refering to being within that comfortable range by simply flying a comfortable mantis (or tighter) like position. If you are flying nice and tight and comfortable and you are still floating, then get weights. Remember Mia said she could keep up with formations, just could not get down to them if they funneled. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  11. To be clear: At the beggining she stated that she can match a groups fall rate once she is close. She just can't get down to them quickly enough if the exit funnels. This menas that she is able to fall at the same speed as a formation, she just does not know how to quickly get down to a formation that is way below her. An experienced jumper would simply dive to get down to a formation. She does not know how to do that yet. Your discussion is on keeper her with a formation if she is floaty. the discussion should be on ways to get down quickly to a formation if its way below you. 12. There are definately a bunch of ways to manipulate your body. As far as weights go, some are for them, some are agaainst them. You can acheive the same effect by learning how to fly your body in a better position versus relying on weights. Using werights you miss out on an opportunity to permanently develop a skill to fall slow or fast. In my post above when I refered to gettign small, mantis is just the first step. If this is not fast enough then the next step is to bring your arms in front of your upper torso. If this is still not enough then you need to learn how to dop a knee or go into a style tuck. All things that a Big way flyer in your area is best equiped to explain. Someone above mentioned that bringing your arsm in is good for catching up but once you reach the formation and need your arch, you will pop up. This is false as there are many drills that you can do to learn how to fly using only your torso and using until your torso to control your fall rate. having your arms out in front of you does not mean that you are using them to catch air once you know the tricks. An example is being able to do a 4-way RW jump with your hands behind your back, completely out of the way. If you can fly like this and control your fall rate you will get used to flying without needing your arms for lift (intentionally or unintentionally). To put my comments in perspective i am 6,1 200 Lbs and My on belly range is 107 MPH to 148mph strictly on body position, no weights. A seperate concern is all the guys telling you to use weights. yes they will help you fall faster, yes its not a huge chnage under canopy if you add a few pound, especially if you are around a 1:1 wing loading. My main concern is your safety. My GF is small and tall and had serious problems with weights from the physical effects of wearing them all day. Her hips would get buised and her lower back would hurt. She is 5, 7 and 115 Lbs and had no problem keeping up with the 130 MPH 4-way jumps once we got her into the tunnel to truly learn how to manipulate her body position. Again, weights will work but i feel it will rob you of the opportunity to learn how to permanenetly adjust your fall rate. Cheers. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  13. "am arching the crap out of my hips, but many times I cant get down." This is one of the main points that i teach people in the tunnel, its not about arching really hard, its about getting smaller. The less surface area you present for your weight, the faster you will fall. If you feel like you need to fall faster, try bringing your arms in front of you chest while bringing in your legs. This is a huge reduction in surface area. Tunnel time is always a good thing to help you learn this. There are also other tricks of droping one knee but that is best learn directly from a coach as its harder then it apears to do. Hard but effective. The best suggestion is go to a tunnel, just 10 minutes focused on falling fast will make a huge difference, no weights required. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.

  15. I am looking for specific information on incidents involving a dual AAD system (AAD on the main and reserve) for rip cord systems. Please specify the set up used, dates of incident and a brief description of what happened. I know that Perris and the air force academy used to use these systems. My DZO wants to use similar systems for a AFF/PFF program but I have hear some real negatives to the system, as such I need specific mals /incidents that have historically ahppend to these systems. Ideally if any of the old dogs from Perris of AFA can post it would be appreciated. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  16. A jumper comes from the term "Military jumper" that is, using the jump as a means of getting somewhere. Skydiver refers to civilian "fun" jumping. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  17. when i went down I went via san fran. Sacramento is closer but it was cool to take the day and do the touristy stuff in san fran first. The greyhound goes to Lodi, from there its just a few miles to the DZ. If you are hanging around the DZ you are going to want some transport as the DZ is out in the middle of nowhere. 18. I don't know what that means, but now I'm intrigued :) really, really tight jump suits, ones taht leave nothing to the imagination. there is an advantage to falling faster as the more air you can deflect, the faster your moves will be. If, however, you need to compromise flexibility or flying position to get that speed then its not worth the trade off. P>s I like the other type of suction cups mentioned above as well.
  19. perfect - your fastest faller should be able to fly right in the center of his range while in a strong and relaxed mantis- in a form fittiing suit that doesn't have any flapping or excess material - don't tie him up by making him dearch and get sloppy - or by having to wear a 'slow' fall suit that flaps or (really worse) has 'gimmicks' to slow him down. Let him fly - the rest can add lead for the same effect as for the pros - I think over the last few, they've experimented with real fast, real slow, etc - energy and weight is a mobility tradeoff.... I agree, the speed should be determined by range. if you all need to wear suction cups to get to that speed, don't do it. That being said, use the faster faller as your mark, not the middle faller as I have seen some teams do. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  20. Most will wear weight to fly around the 135 mark. faster wind for the 35 seconds Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  21. the tunnel has a deal with a few hotels in the area. call them. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  22. In a few years i am sure you will want a bigger bike (even 500cc is a very different ride) If you get used to riding a smaller bike it will be harder to learn on a bigger bike as you cannot "muscle" your way around like you can on a 125CC. thios is the problenm taht my GF had when she upgraded. Its best to do the full test. If you need to there are schools that you can go to to practice, that or find another rider and ride around a parking lot with the bike. 23. I would support this, its a great idea Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  24. [reply I´m interessted in the following: what kind of performance the sabre 2 will loose beyond a WL of about 1.7? Flare? surf? i´m sure that the chute will still keep flying but what exactly will suck at a higher wingload? thanks to the guys who could make contructive posts.. OK some technical points then. As was mentioned above you will be 20% over the max recommended wing loading. How this affects your flight is two-fold: 1. Opening, The increased wing loading will cause the canopy to open faster then it would at a normal wing loading. This increase in opening preasure can rip the material (has happened to me) resulting in an obvious mal. (this one sucks) can also result in much harder opening so flying a camera would be out of the question if you want to save your neck. 2. Flying characteristics. The higher wing loading will greatly shift your stall point on the canopy. It also affects the recovery arc. Turbulance will also effect the canopies performace in a greater way, essentially the handling will become "sloppy" as the wing is so dependant on the air being ramed in to over come the addional suspended weight which actually wants to pull the canopy down instead of providing the weight to create the "wing" effect of the canopy. If you lose the extra force of the raming air, the weight can overcome the inflation characteristics of the canopy, resulting in "slippage" (a sudden downwards drop prior to the wing recovering) What if this drop happens at 20-40 ft? Other canopies that are designed for a higher wing loading are designed to compensate for the additional WL hence the minimum WL recommendations. these canopies are designed to want to pull up more. I would recommend again over loading the manufacturers recommendations, its much better to get a canopy that is designed for it. Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
  25. I guess it depends on what tempo you are used to learning physical skills. My freind and i did 8 AFF jumps in one day, but you need to be seriously concerned about a mental overload as well as physical exhustion. We had to keep eating and drinking and ask a lot of questions to keep up with that tempo. On the other side of the coin each jump was significantly better then the last as there was virtually no loss of muscle memory between jumps. As said above, depends entirely on how in shape you are and how you deal with data input from a "fire hose". Downsizing is not the way to prove your manhood.
