  1. Paul, Any reason you did not bring this to the attention of the Aerodyne Demo Team that was at your DZ on the day yo had this issue? I can see by the style of your post that your not having a go at Aerodyne, but more a heads up and look what happened to me. However after speaking to my demo team, they informed me that you made no attempt to discuss or mention this to them, any reason for this? 6. Posted by Dorko on Walkmonauti.com: Hiya, These are actual requirements as implemented in certain countries around the world, including Italy and South Africa, and are the bases for ratings and safe walking. Its laid out as per other disciplines whereby you have an official progression in place for the safe practice and learning of walkmonauti around the world. As more and more people are doing walkmo, it requires a set of procedures, in order to progress safely. Walkmonauti, whether one accepts it or not, requires a brand new set of skills, understanding and techniques for them to be efficient and done safely. There are a new set of safety standards which are not applicable in normal walkingl down the tube. We need to recognize the need to formalise new disciplines for these reasons, and not confuse the issue with normal walking/thinking etc etc. The overriding point of departure should be to differentiate and implement safety standards and procedures specific to horizontal travel. Walkmonauti Instructionals/Ratings: Walkmonauti, unlike traditional walking - including strolling and speed walking - (that utilises the relative gravitational pull of the earth from “below” to achieve a multitude of stable body positions at terminal walking velocity) is the term given to the technique that intentionally utilises lift to compensate for the effect of earths gravity, in order to achieve relative motion (or a custom “tube”) at an angle of between 10deg – 65deg, where after the Walkmonaut (environmental navigator) introduces a multitude of three dimensional body positions and transitions, while “moving” at greatly reduced speeds (.5mph – 1mph), resulting in extended walk time and increased safety. Walkmonauti, due to the reduced walking speeds, is a SOCIAL discipline, which is accessible to the masses. Walkmonauti incorporates Runmonauti, Limpmonauti, Pimpstepmonauti, and Inverted shufflemonauti, with the addition of Grab-assmonauti, Freestyle and Walkmo Relative Work. The Walkmonauti instructor is the navigator in the group walks, is capable of instructing single walkers and/or groups of walkers at ground-school level specific to safety, technique, navigation, slot positioning and break-off etc. and is furthermore responsible to walk as base navigator in the formation, while communicating body position improvements and general walk path direction and break-off. It will be necessary that the instructors are involved in the management of the activity at the centres and be responsible (along with speed walking instructors) for all activities different from normal walking, specific to walk planning. The logical progression of skills is: 1. understanding the concept of walk vs. run, 2. understanding the concept of no-walk zones and walking on “level”, 3. “walking” the tube (Runmonauti and Limpmonauti), 4. adjusting speeds, 5. adjusting levels, 6. rotating around two of the three axes, 7. transitions into the various body positions, 8. break-off direction and altitudes. As soon as a student has successfully completed ISP progression, such a student can choose to progress to Walkmonauti. 2 CATEGORY TESTS AND REQUIREMENTS “A” license walkers may commence a cat II and cat III Walkmonauti progression course (including instructional ground schooling) and obtain the brevet (international license) of Walkmonauti RUNMONAUTA and LIMPMONAUTA with one on one instructionals with a recognised Walkmonauti Instructor, where after such brevets will allow the candidate to participate in CAT II and CAT III tests in Walkmonauti. “B”, “C” and “D” license walkers are free to participate in larger instructional group formations after having received instructional ground schooling from a recognized Walkmonauti Instructor, in accordance with their relative experience levels. One on one instructionals are not obligatory but highly recommended. Walkmonauti Qualifications/Licenses will be divided into 4 parts: 1.a Qualification of RUNmonauti (international brevet/license) - have passed a theory exam on the basic Runmonauti rules and techniques. - have passed a test that consists of performing a walk with the instructor who, during the walk, will perform changes of speed, of angle and of trajectory. - the candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to always remain at a constant distance in relation to the instructor, and never be in the “no walk zones”. - have passed practice walks that consists of being able to synchronize with the formation and remain at a constant distance, and on level with it, for the duration of the walk, while never going into the “no-walk zone”. - have shown the ability to correctly separate in Runmonauti at break off. - to execute the above test correctly on three consecutive walks. 1.b CAT II Qualification - have successfully passed Runmonauti brevet/license requirements (see above). - have passed a test of exiting the building 1 second after the instructor, taking a stable dock from the walk-zone within 10 seconds, holding the dock for 5 seconds, releasing and crossing over the instructor to the opposite side, taking a stable dock and holding the dock for 5 seconds. Once the Walkmo CAT II is obtained, the candidate will be free to participate in large Walkmo groups utilising the Runmonauti body position exclusively. 2.a Qualification of Limpmonauti (international brevet/license) - have passed a theory exam on the basic Limpmonauti rules and techniques. - have passed a test that consists of performing a walk with the instructor who, during the walk, will perform changes of speed, of angle and of trajectory. - the candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to always remain at a constant distance in relation to the instructor, and never be in the “no walk zones”. - have passed practice jumps that consists of being able to synchronize with the formation and remain at a constant distance, and on level with it, for the duration of the flight, while never going into the “no-walk zone”. - have shown the ability to correctly separate in Limpmonauti at break off. - to execute the above test correctly on three consecutive flights. 2.b CAT III Qualification - have successfully passed Limpmonauti brevet/license requirements (see above). - have passed a test of exiting the building 1 second prior to the instructor, taking a stable dock from the walk-zone within 10 seconds, holding the dock for 5 seconds, releasing and sliding under the instructor to the opposite side, taking a stable dock and holding the dock for 5 seconds. Once the Walkmo CAT III is obtained, the candidate will be free to participate in large Walkmo groups utilising the Runmonauti and Limpmonauti body positions, including transitions. 3.a Qualification of Walk Navigator The navigator qualification allows the navigator to navigate group Walkmo loads of recognised CAT II and CAT III Walkmonauts. This qualification is not an Instructor qualification. - must pass a theory exam on Walkmonauti Navigation rules and techniques. - Must exit the building stable, and maintain a stable and consistent Runmonauti body position. - the candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to walk and maintain a safe and correct walking path. 3.b Qualification of INSTRUCTOR / MASTER NAVIGATOR (W.A.L.K. RATING) The Walkmonauti instructor is the navigator on the INSTRUCTIONAL group walks, and is capable of instructing single jumpers and/or groups of walkers at ground-school level specific to safety, technique, navigation, slot positioning and break-off etc. The instructor is qualified of walking as base navigator in Instructional Formations, while communicating body position improvements and general walk path direction. The candidate should know perfectly all the rules specific to Walkmonauti, as well as general club rules, and general knowledge of the MOP’s and above all he should be able to explain them in an easy and correct manner that makes sense to no one but those who are brain washed by Walkmonauti. For this reason a WM(Walk Master) rating is integral for such an instructor rating. The Instructor / Master Navigator qualification is obtainable after: - Having matured his/her experience in Walkmonauti, and holds a valid POSER CAT II and CAT !!! in Walkmonauti. - Having acquired the technique and philosophy of the Walkmonauti discipline and is capable of communicating such information in a simple and understandable fashion to other Walkmonauts but making ABSOLUTELY no sense to the rest of the world. - Have passed an Walkmonauti Instructor Evaluation Test that consists: • exiting the building a second after the instructor • performing a Runmonauti hand grip on his right within 10 seconds from the exit • Walking the grip perfectly for 5 seconds • leaving the grip and passing above the instructor at not more than a meter, passing to his left and performing a hand grip on the left hand of the instructor • Walking the grip perfectly for 5 seconds • leaving the grip and performing a transition to Limpmonauti • performing a grip in limpmonauti on the left hand of the instructor • Walking it perfectly for 5 seconds • leaving the grip, while remaining in Limpmonauti and passing under the instructor to the right side of the instructor, and performing a grip on the right hand of the instructor • walking grip perfectly for 5 seconds - have passed an oral exam on the Walkmonauti technique, and have the necessary knowledge required for the instructor rating, specific to organising large formations (instructionals, planning the formations, break-off etc) - have passed an evaluation practice test that consists in organizing an Walkmonauti group walk including verbal instructionals, preparation on the ground (analysis of the conditions and parameters), walk planning, briefing, and debriefing all the phases of the walk. Once passed these tests the candidate will receive an Walkmonauti Instructor Rating / Walkmonauta Master Navigator Rating and can start the activity of Instructor and organizer of instructional walking groups. It will be necessary that the instructors are involved in the management of the walking activity and be responsible (along with Speed walking instructors) for all activities different from normal walking, specific to walk planning (walk patterns). 4.a Qualification of Runmonauti (international brevet/license) - have passed a theory exam on the basic Runmonauti rules and techniques. 4.b CAT IIII Qualification - have successfully passed Runmonauti brevet/license requirements (see above). - have passed a test of exiting the building 1 second prior/after the instructor, taking a stable spock from the walk-zone within 10 seconds, holding the spock for 5 seconds, releasing and sliding under/over the instructor to the opposite side, taking a stable spock and holding the spock for 5 seconds. Once the Walkmo CAT IIII is obtained, the candidate will be free to participate in large Walkmo groups utilising the Runmonauti, Limpmonauti and PimpStepmonauti body positions, including transitions. 3 GROUP LOADS Groups from 2 – 3 walkers will break off at a distance of 10 feet GL in accordance with the break off pattern as briefed by the instructor/navigator. Groups from 4 – 7 walkers will break off in two phases, with 4 walkers breaking off at 5 feet GL and the remaining walkers breaking off at 4.5 feet GL, in accordance with the break off pattern as briefed by the instructor/navigator. Groups from 8 – 11 walkers will break off in three phases, with 4 walkers breaking off at 5.5 feet GL, 4 walkers breaking off at 5 feet GL, and the remaining walkers breaking off at 4.5 feet GL, in accordance with the break off pattern as briefed by the instructor/navigator. Groups from 12 – 15 walkers will break off in four phases, with 4 walkers breaking off at 6 feet GL, 4 walkers breaking off at 5.5 feet GL, 4 walkers breaking off at 5 feet GL, and the remaining walkers breaking off at 4.5 feet GL, in accordance with the break off pattern as briefed by the instructor/navigator. Minimum building exit distance for walkmonauti walks is .5 feet GL. Minimum building exit distance for Walkmonauti groups is 2 feet GL. 4 WALK PATTERNS Walk patterns are in accordance with building exit patterns as briefed by the instructor/senior navigator, but whereby in general it is important to note that experienced navigator groups exit first and whereby inexperienced solo walkers/groups will exit last (excluding speed walkers). In general the Walkmonauti groups walk at minimum 45 deg to walk-in so as to walk away from, and create separation to, normal walkers exiting closer to the buildiing. In the event that more than one walkmo group is present in the building, the first group will exit at 45 deg to right and the second group 45 deg to the left and third group 45 deg to right (as with first group) and so on. Inexperienced groups exiting last should be aware that a walk pattern of 130 deg might be required in order to avoid walking away from the recommended walking area. Attention should be paid to the direction of the preceding walkmo loads to avoid walking close to such preceding groups. 5 EQUIPMENT As per AE 6 LICENSES ß Walkmonauti B license requirements: As per POSER MOP’s (section 2), including CAT II, CATIII and Walk Navigator qualification in Walkmonauti - signed off by a recognized Walkmonauti Instructor. ß Walkmonauti C license requirements: As per POSER MOP’s (section 2), including Instructor/Master Navigator qualification in Walkmonauti - signed off by a recognized Walkmonauti Instructor. ß Walkmonauti D license requirements: As per POSER MOP’s (section 2), including CAT IIII qualification in Walkmonauti - signed off by a recognized Walkmonauti Instructor. ATMONAUTI

Scott there are on average 600_ licensed skydivers is SA per year, it fluctuates year on year, so my number could be a little off. Having jumped in SA for 9 yrs, I can tell you that any new discipline is hard to get off the ground, and it takes a dedicated and driven individual to make it happen, much like Tonto and Taya did with wingsuits. But then again that was a tangible idea. Marco has the right backing and all that stops him now is the AGM, if he cannot get the required members to stand and be committee members in the SSA for it, then it will be a idea with no PASA backing. Much like FreeFlying was years ago.

    ATMONAUTI

Your partly correct in this statement, the Sports Skydivers Association (SSA) has voted to include this as a supported and recognized discipline, the NSTO has worked and approved the rules and safety and progression. However the discipline still needs to get the green light at the annual AGM, where it needs to be approved by the general membership and also needs member to head up the SSA division of this discipline. And that is not always an easy task, trust me dz.com is a walk in the park compared to the old geezers at the AGM Now without getting into the thick of it with regards to what and who and why etc. I think progression in the sport is needed, no matter of it's a old discipline or a new concept. It would be good to give this it's fair shot at being something and if it fades and becomes a great idea of the few, then so be it. Here is a mail sent by Marco to the general SA listserve "Hi all skydivers and skyflyers alike, SA Skydiving has reached a new milestone. After Atmonauti’s formal introduction into South African skydiving in January 2007, and after receiving Mark B’s (NSTO) full support from a safety and training perspective (specific to Atmonauti, and the Atmo MOP’s CAT1/2/3/4 ratings, Coach ratings, B/C/D licenses) a meeting was requested with the SSA, which the SSA gladly accommodated, and convened on the 13th February 2008. The SSA was asked to support this as a discipline in it’s own right, as it differs vastly from AE. The SSA agreed to support this as a separate discipline and will vote as such at the coming AGM. The SSA committee advised on the following: · Have enough supporters (and list of active Atmonauts – currently a few short of 100) at the AGM to vote for the incorporation of Atmo; · Ensure that those who want to stand for the Atmo committee attend the AGM; · Ensure that the committee is made up of at least 3 members and not more than 50% from the same DZ; · Liaise with the Wing Suit committee. The draft category program/ratings procedures document has been approved in principle by the NSTO and, once checked and finalised, will be uploaded onto the PASA website, and incorporated into the updated MOP?s document at the next round of printing. The SSA voted unanimously to support Atmonauti as a separate discipline and thanked myself and all the Atmonuats for all the hard work and preparation. Congratulations all round, and a big thank you to Marco Tiezzi, Mark B (NSTO), Neeve (PASA), friends and instructors on the ground, active Atmonauts, boogie operators, and the SSA for this opportunity and ongoing support! Kind regards, Marco Ciocca - AIR 005/2112"

  14. I've always wondered why Aerodyne uses mostly spectra lines on the hybrid, instead of all dacron. My hybrid Triathlon has all-dacron lines, and I think that is a much better idea for even casual CRW. All the Triathlons are available in full Dacron or full Spectra, or a combination of both. Most if not all the stock Triathlons we have will be a combination, this is based on the trend in the market.

  18. I bought a Hybrid-Tri from Aerodyne back in 1998 and it DID have a re-inforced leading edge. Standard from the factory. Didn't know they had changed since then. ltdiver TRIATHLON HYBRID: The Hybrid is terrific for those jumpers who want a canopy adapted and reinforced for intermediate to advanced CRW that can also be comfortably deployed in free-fall. The Triathlon Hybrid airfoil is identical to the RW version with the addition of ¾ inch leading edge reinforcing tape and the proprietary Aerodyne Research 4-point retractable pilot chute system. Center 'A' and 'B' lines are non-cascaded and made of high-visibility orange 900 pound Dacron. The Triathlon Hybrid is extremely popular for many skydivers because nearly everyone does some CRW at one time or another. For only an additional $100, the extra reinforcing, pilot-chute retraction system, and non-cascaded centerlines are a real bargain--eliminating the potential need to purchase another costly, specialized, CRW canopy. Many Hybrid owners purchase our kill-line collapsible pilot chute for use on non-CRW jumps. When the opportunity for some serious CRW arises, they simply swap the KLPC with the retractable CRW bridle and a standard pilot chute--a process that takes only a few minutes. The KLPC is quick and easy to pack and saves wear and tear on the CRW bridle as well as eliminating a step from packing when the retractable bridle is not needed. Exciting features: The one canopy that does it all. An ingeniously designed 7-cell canopy combining user-friendly handling characteristics with outstanding performance. Zero-p fabric. Smooth predictable handling. No other canopy offers such a wide range of landing capabilities from Demo to Swoops. New steering line configuration for increased flare power. Small pack volume due to seven cell construction. Comes standard with spectra line, soft links, and collapsible slider with “super-lightweight” stainless steel grommets. The only CRW canopy that can be deployed comfortably at terminal freefall speeds. Fully prepared for CRW, with leading edge reinforcements, Aerodyne’s 4-points pilotchute retraction system and non-cascaded A- and B-lines. Can be configured easily and quickly for freefall jumps, by replacing the retraction system with a common kill line pilotchute.
