If you think about it... when the shuttle re-enters, the air resistance generates an incredible amount of heat. Although a person isn't travelling nearly as fast, the effect is still the name, just to a lesser extent. This may create enough speed for the falling air to actually warm you up. I notice the same thing during freefall, I don't feel that cold, but once I'm under canopy, my hands go numb and I look forward to holding a nice hot chocolate. Maybe a physicist could calculate the friction-heat generated from a 80kg mass falling at terminal. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

Because knowing it's happening elsewhere just makes my life seem that much more pathetic... What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

Welcome to the forums I'm in a similar boat as you. The weather was terrible around here. I jump just east of Hamilton (at Swoop). We were weathered out for 2 straight months. I think I managed to jump 3 or 4 times in the last two months. I'm starting to explore other DZ's in the Ontario region. I may swing by PST on Sunday...see what it's like. For me...well, I hate my job, I'm bored as sin, and I don't like my co-workers. So how do you feel when you're wasting away all your free time at work instead of jumping? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

Which branch? I'm not really sure which branch. I still considering all my options and trying to get as much information as possible. I'm not sure exactly what career I would like to do, but I wouldn't mind being a pilot. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

I wouldn't mind having to wait 3 years (I can still jump during my free time) I'll just make sure that I'm a good little boy so I can get the recommendation to get accepted by the skyhawks. I don't have a problem being a soldier for that time (and it'll certainly beat being an accountant). For the chance to join the skyhawks...I'd do it. Sounds like alot of fun. Thanks for all your input. I think I'm going to be doing alot of reading about the Parachuting school, and about the skyhawks. If it's something I can join...and actually be paid to skydive...then I'd give up any sembelance I had to a normal life (not that I was ever normal to begin with) What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

I've been thinking about joining the Canadian Forces. Does anyone know if they have paratroopers? ( I heard they don't, but figured people here would know better) I'm also curious if Canada has a sport skydiving team similar to that of the US. Any info from those here would be appreciated. I completely agree. That sounds like a great fleet. Too many big planes, and you're screwed for jumping on those slow days. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

As a person who took AFF from the beginning of the year, and only just last week did I get my license. (Bad weather just kept getting in the way) For a first jump AFF is the way to go...however, as a training method, I think S/L (IAD) is the way to go for a number of reasons. You get the chance to jump more due to not needing altitute. You only need a JumpMaster instead of a AFF instructor, so it's easier to get into the air. (At least at my DZ, there are more JM's than AFF instructors) It's cheaper per jump, and it really sucks to have to re-do a AFF level (specially level 1-3) Keep in mind, this is just the training path. Both lead to the same thing, and you'll have alot of fun doing either. Blue Skies. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

Got my hands on my Very First Parachute. I bought it a couple weeks ago, but I had to get it re-packed. I was able to bring it home for the first time yesterday. YAY!!!

Sure, we can work something out for the trip back, I'll certainly let you know. I'm hoping to get my endorsements down there too. Attention all Canadians (from the GTA); who's going to Florida this Christmas? I'm planning on driving, and am looking for passengers to help reduce costs. My plans are to leave on Dec 22nd, and return on Jan 1st. Who really need to go to christmas dinner when there's plenty of skydiving to do... I used to light paper on fire, and then stick it is a tub of gasoline to put the fire out....lucky me...it worked every time. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
