  1. Now that is practical advice. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  2. 1) Ok - Quite the point you make there 2) Compared to you - yes - compared to swoopers - yes. My canopy skills are no-where near that level. 3) So you won't care if I crater myself - then why are you posting here? 4) Have you met them? They're quite good. 5) So they come and go...as in come in a car, leave in a ambulance, or casket? The deaths that I know of regarding a hp canopy involve people not being able to dig themselves out of the corner...so I assume you think that I won't have the judgement to dig myself out. And I don't. That's why i don't swoop this thing. That's far too scary a prospect for me to try with such limited experience. If you don't care if I die, then don't bother posting here. If you do, then consider actually providing useful information. To those out there that actually have provided useful information, I appreciate it, and will be taking in into consideration with my training and progression. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  3. Has anybody told you what a DGIT is yet? I hate to say that you sure sound like one, but... Did I officially make the list of "Dead Guy in Training"? Do I get a prize? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  4. You know I have no intention of trying your Xaos...ever. That 83 would scare me shitless, and that's if it worked perfectly...never mind if shit goes wrong. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  5. For the forseeable future, my approaches will be simple right handed J pattern. I don't plan on doing any high speed approaches until I have an intuitive understanding of how muh altitude is lost based on the various factors involved...which will take quite some time. I was swooping my last canopy, but the samurai comes in fast enough, and I have no desire to add additional speed on final at this stage. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  6. QuoteYou came from a Sabre 150 @ 1.67WL and went to a Samurai 137 @ 1.70WL (My conclusion: either you lost 20 lbs during your layoff/recovery or you are now jumping at a WL of 1.82). Even after your accident you mention you were happy about landing so close to the peas (My conclusion: You have always had problems with accuracy). You couldn't handle a straight-in landing (500' final) on a no-wind day and you yourself concluded the wingloading and the lack off wind were the cause of the accident. Quote I actually did lose a fair bit of weight during my recovery. I stood on the scale at the dz fully geared up and heading to the plane, and I came in at 230. I was a little surprised, so others verified the accuracy of the scale for me, by checking themselves. Accuracy has never really been a proble. I usually land within 10 m of the peas as it is, when I'm actually going for the bowl that is. Usually with the traffic, I just pick an open spot on the DZ and target there. On that particular jump, there was no traffic, so I was working on my accuracy, in the same way swoopers work on their swooping. All the jumps on my samurai so far have been no wind days - its actually been really strange, that there's been no winds for several weeks in a row. I understand the theoretical aspects of flying a highly loaded HP canopy, as for how it actually behaves...well, that just comes with more experience and practice, high up. As for landing in a tight spot...well, I guess that depends on how you define tight. When flying a wing with a high glide ratio, and a long surf, the tightness of that spot can be no smaller than the length of your surf, so it's kind of subjective. As for specific techniques that could be used to land in a tighter area, I really don't know. That's something I'd have to ask my coach. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  7. I actually did a return to currency through a bunch of jumps on larger canopies. 260s, 190s 170s before I started with the 136. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  8. I have spoken to 3 highly experienced canopy pilots at my DZ (1200 - 2600 jumps) and they all believe that I am capable of flying the canopy, and that it is a much better choice than the sabre. I will continue to get advice from these individuals regarding how to properly fly a high-performance, and even for the last 10 jumps or so, there advice has been quite useful. Steve, not to stir the pot.. but what about Rob (one of the most experienced pilots at the dz) told you not to jump that canopy. and I quote .. "I have never stepped in like this before but I will do it this time...Steve, you should not be jumping a Samuri 136! I am thinking something of 170 sq ft for now - doesn't matter what you have jumped up to now." Don't hurt yourself man. I don't intend to hurt myself - but...accidents do happen... 10. Just wanted to let everyone know that I've made a full recovery. I'm now jumping a samurai 136 (Loaded 1.7). So far, with it's much improved flare over an overloaded Sabre, it's setting me down much softer that my previous canopies. I don't regret my choice :) What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  11. Hey Some of us are planning a jump into a fresh water lake. Is there any potential to damage the container, and or canopy. I have heard several different thoughts on this, and am looking for someone who has the experience to comment. Does the water affect the ZP of a canopy. I have a relatively new canopy that I might be jumping, but I won't if there's a chance that it could be damaged. What does your experience say? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  12. Well, it's been a month so far...I should be walking again in 3 weeks. After that, who knows how long. People have told me that I'm done for the season What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

  14. Sadly, nothing for me. The doc told me not to drink anything...and I've only broke his rules 4 times...but 5 is just too many...it's my health on the line ya know. And I know what it's like to not jump too...it's a long weekend here, and I'm still recovering from a broken ankle...can't even walk yet. Ya know what...maybe I'll have that beer anyway. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  15. I enjoyed a wonderful time at the DZ, watching the beautiful blue skies and wonderful puffy clouds all over. And seeing everyone else jump. I busted myself up last week, so you're not the only one not jumping this weekend There's always another day. And as something that I'm starting to believe...each jump is special, so make it count

    Busted up Bordom

I recently busted myself up (broken ankle) and I'm just bored out of my mind. For all those that may have gotten themselves injured and pretty much forced to sit around, do nothing, and heal...any recommendations to help pass the time? ps - I'm single....so the obvious first option is out What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  17. Many companies will offer demos of their Reserves as main canopies, so you can at least try them out. what Dave says sounds right though. I doubt you could take your actual reserve and attached it as your main canopy. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  18. With all these recommendations for Liquid Sky, and their wicked looking freefly suits, i think I may just need to buy from them. I've sent them an e-mail so hopefully they can do what I need done. Sometimes, it sucks being a fat tard (Although it definitely helps with that wind loading ) What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  19. I'm looking for a high quality freefly two-piece jumpsuit. I need something super baggy as i have a tendancy to fall extremely fast. Any recommendations as to which company? Can you select an extremely baggy option for most orders, or would I be better off just adding several inches to measurements all around? I'll be using it for sitflying, head down (once I figure out how to actually hold head down) and for coaching & instructing. Of course...I also would like a suit that looks cool What do you recommend? I'm willing to spend the money, if it means something that I can use for quite a while, won't fall apart on me, while also being effective. Thanks. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  20. 4 Jumps. First! Jump as an Instructor First! Caravan jump (boy I love that airplane) It was mothers day??? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  21. Well that's certainly unfortunate to hear. I was mostly curious because There is only one individual (so I've been told) in Canada who currently teaches a Riggers course (and he's out West) - several thousand miles away. I guess I'll just have to fly out there when he holds the course then...I don't think I really have any other choice. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  22. I am interested in becomming a rigger. I have currently arranged to be instructed by a CSPA rated rigger, my question is do I have to take a rigging course that purely CSPA, or can I get my training, and then cross the border to take the course, and become FAA rated? I'm not really sure how it all works, so I'm just seeking clarification. If it's possible, is there any central location where courses are posted, or people who might know when courses are being held? Thanks. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  23. He was a teacher, mentor, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. This is a great loss to the skydiving community, and I'm still in shock over this news. You will always be remembered Ahmed. Always. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!

  25. I've been to Cuba a bunch of times and I personally find it the best place to go an unwind. You can sit in the sun enjoying free food and drinks and have no worries in the world. I go there, and I just forget about my life anywhere else, and just live there for the week. But i guess it really depends on what you prefer to do on vacation. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
