  1. Hi Everyone. I am strongly considering purchasing a video setup. Just a helmet, bracket/box, and a side camera. Before I ask, I just want to say that I'm not planning on jumping camera tomorow. I will wait until I at least have 200 jumps and a 'B' CSPA licence before I proceed. However, I plan to reach that point soon. So as it stands, all I know is that I want a camera system with a side mount/small top mount for entry level flyer. Right now, I know very little about how to get the proper set-up and am basically like a retarded gorilla waiting to get a****cked. Would someone please explain to me what are ropes? What do I need to look for in terms of equipment? I know I said 'entry level' but I don't want crappy quality video. I'm on a budget so I can't buy the best...I'm aiming for $1000 used complete setup. Thanks, any response is appreciated.
  2. Jump # 20 or so. Eearly mourning overcast at 3000' and windy. Went to 3500 with a load full of very experienced jumpers (1000+ jumps at least). Couldn't see the ground but everyone was jumping out so I jumped out, went to pull and went unstable. Regained stability and pulled. I was also downsizing from a 280 Manta to a 190 Sabre. Upon opening I discovered myself directly above a house at about 1200'. So I yanked the toggle and induced linetwists. Luckily I kicked out quickly and was heading toward a road with powerlines. The dropzone was over a kilometer away from me at this point. I cleared the powerlines and ended up landing downwind in feild of cut corn. (For those of you that don't know, it's like landing in a feild full of spikes.) Plus it was November so the ground was stiff. I remember thinking and saying "I'm FU**ED!" As soon as one foot touched I tubmled hard. Walked away with some dirty gear and bruised ego. Pleasant way to start your day!
  3. $20- 3500' $25- 4500' $30- 7500' $35- 10000' Plus GST for those of us who live in Canada
  4. >>I've forgotten my altimeter before, guess i should have rode the plane down, but i paid for that jump, and i made it. I also forgot to turn on my AAD, i know, i should have truned it on in the plane!
  5. Dude, that is not what he said. Read it again, >>move past the point where ideas, questions and advice are considered from people if their jump numbers are high enough
  6. What words did you use to ask them?...I keep getting shut down?
  7. Hi guys, I am looking for a cypress with 2-6 years left in it. Does anyone know any webpages or little niches where I could find one. I've been looking in the classifieds here on DZ.com but no luck and the local dropzones around me don't seem to have what I'm looking for. Please, if you know of an available cypress with 2-6 years left on it, let me know. Thanks.
  8. I just want you guys to see this, it's off the hook! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Featured_Photographers/Michael_McGowan/Chicken_Soup&image=Hanging%20around.jpg&img=&tt=

  10. Ok check it..had about 25 jumps. Very early mourning jump after a good night. It was windy and clouds were sitting at 3 grand complete overcast with rain predicted. So we decided to get a quick hop and pop. All the guys I was jumping with had at least 1000 jumps and their calmness threw me off. To make matters whorse I was downsizing from a sabre 230 to a 190 on that jump. So at exit we're in a cloud...it was a 182 so I climb out (very slippery) and go unstable. I gain stableness and when I go to pull the chute I go unstable again. I decised to wait till I was stable to pull (probably shouldn't have). Anyways...the spot was bad and I was at 1200 feet with a house right below me. I saw a feild that looked alright so I decided to land there. Turns out in was cut corn!!!!!!!! Man those things are like steaks. I ended up landing downwind into that feild. I thought I was going to break something for sure. As soon as I touched the ground I did some flips and luckily came out unhurt (relatively speaking). So yea, I almost died.. that experience really slamed reality in my face. Oh and I was like at least a mile away from the dropzone. Good times
  11. This kind of reminds me of that movie "click". There are more important things in life then work. I'm not saying base your decision on a movie. Its really what you want to do..life is short man
  12. Kinda had a really weird one not that long ago. We were in a highrise when a boeing crashed into it (kinda like 911), anyways so we were running away as the building behind us was collapsing. I managed to get away but I seen my hero fall with a boy. Now here is where it gets a crazy...he did this crazy maneuver where he threw the boy onto a smaller building that was close by therefore saving his life. I then saw him hit the ground. I don't know, this might sound strange, but after seeing that I lost my fear of dying by smashing into the ground from great heights. It was a crazy dream and one of those that seemed real as f**k.
  13. Seriously! Can you imagine if he didn't level out, started to spin and couldn't cut away properly because his hand was stuck!!!!!!!!!! Good job with what you did dude
  14. Yea, you and freeflysteve are both right... probably everyone else here is thinking the same thing. I was wrong about what I said. You guys are right, really I'm a nobody in this sport with only a bit over 100 jumps and I keep running my mouth like I really am "entitled" to something. It actually took me a while to get to this point and realize it. Sorry if I offended anyone in my process of being that kid. In the future I will demonstrate a better attitude. I really hope to make some friends here. I'm just going to say this once and never again so that people who have been painfully reading my posts will know. I think what I really wanted was recognition in the beginning of all this and I let my pride (and some ego) do the talking instead of reason. I came to realize that it's like respect... you really have to earn it, and I thought I did but nothing worth anything in life is that easy. (It took someone to point it out to me- and they know who they are, thank you again) Anyways, that's where I am. Have a good weekend people, I'm out.
  15. Things have changed a lot since then. I'll admit that the things I said were not called for but you know, I might still sound stuck up saying this but I don't care. I mean what the hell do you expect me to do? This guy does nothing but shut me down so really I don't care how much experience he has or what he knows. Sometimes you gotta carve your own path and I really enjoy reading all the things you experienced jumpers talk about...it helps me and I learn, so truly thank you all. But I don't need any kind of abuse and look at what he's done: The guy just reminded everyone of my "some dropzones suck thread" and he's done it more than once. It's not that I'm trying to hide what I've said but like if you don't understand where I'm coming from there's not much I can say to you. I've changed my attitude a lot since then and my perspective of the sport has changed and in fact... I really like that dropzone now (and yes, I understand why they weren't jumping). I made statements that were just a point of view that were not right. At the time I belived it. Anyways man, he's being the bully in this situation and I'll be damned if I don't stand up to a goddamn bully. He makes statements about young people and how he doesn't like them (calling us all kinds of names)...well guess what, I don't like you either! But I won't lower myself by stooping to your level. There, I've said my peace...now I'm just going to go on without your knowlege (Mjo) and without your expertise. So you know,, you were right, a part of the sport did die because of your ignorance. I did try to put it behind me, even to reach out to you, but now I see how you're just powertripping. I got nothing but openminded and willingness but understand that I will not let anyone walk all over me. EDIT: Sorry I was wrong, it was someone else who did that before (remind everyone of my thread), so he has done it only once, but still, everything he's ever said to me was negative.

    Thanks dude,, that's good advice.
  18. Oh yea? Well I have been walking since I dunno, as far as I can remember and man have I seen a lot walking in my day. U know, I even ran and jogged and speedwalked. Now I'm going to base a theory on how different generations walk. A littl extreme? Maybe, but here's the thing: I've done a lot of statistical studies in identifying trends, etc.. to prove or predict. Ok, you know you may have a lot of experience and I can appreciate it but you can't officially label a generation whatever you like just because you think so. I know you didn't do it officially or anything and I will stop talking about this now because like Affi said.. it is freedom of speech and it is your right and if you really believe it then believe what you want. What can I possibly say or do but live my life the way I see it fit? Or maybe I should pick up on what I'm someone says I'm lacking....hmm I'll have to think about that.
  19. Of course they have freedom of speech in Canada. The guy can say what he wants, it's just he lays it down like it's a fact (especially what others lack). >>So let the opinionated talk, they are entitled to their perspective even though it has no bearing with reality on a world wide scale, skydiving is far from extinct or unpopular.
  20. I like this response, it's the kind of attitude that we need.
  21. >>The "entitlement generation" lack the patience and stamina to become old-school skydivers.
