Question for South Africans (or those who've been there)
gainer replied to ladyskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I second karl, april is just after the rains so it will still be somewhat green. Skydiving is also very good that time of the year, we usually hold our nationals that time of the year. April is also good if you want to see the animals in the Kruger national, best time of the year as it is not too hot. -

A friend asked me "What do you think your chances are?" " Zero if I don't enter, something if I do" , so I entered. Nothing to lose, lots to gain -
Blondie was the guy who taught me to pack. First time it took me 45 min, and he helped for all 45 minutes, and then I had to jump it. Blondie also took me on my first head-down, scary as he had no idea what he was doing and me even less and it was illegal :-). Afterwards they helped a 16 year old, where you have to be 18, to his first beer. Another illegal thingy. Now I freefly okish and take a lot less time to pack. And I still use the techniques he taught me, 1150 jumps later. rest in peace my friend Dian

I started wearing Ortho-k about 3 months back, initially it was a hazzel to get them in but lately i can get them in and out very easily. As to discomfort, yes they are dicomfortale but only if you watch tv or read or is very active still with your eyes. Third is yes, I put them on at night and have perfectly good vision, my vision does get a bit distorted id I do not wear them and onece it took about 4-5 days and I was back on my prescription ( -4.5 and -5.5) but getting back to no glasses about 2-3 days. Just remember to resist putting any other glasses on. My only complaint is that it is a hazzle to put them on every night but not a big one and you get used to it soon.

Eric (Tonto) Stephenson - Goodbye my friend
gainer replied to sangiro's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
Not sure where else to post this but we got word today on one of our radio's that a company, not sure of the name, is sponsaring Sindile's, the little deaf girl t was sposaring out of his own pocket, full education. Now as far as I am interpreting this it means that all her books, taxi fares, and school tuition is paid for until she matriculates. Christmas came early today -
On the night that SA won the Rugby world cup about an hour after that he came on stage here in SA. The crowd was nuts, and he was on stage having a blast, kept on geeking the camera and playing the crowd. Unbelievable, and the springboks won

Eric (Tonto) Stephenson - Goodbye my friend

Both me and my sister were students of Tonto, he helped us to not just become better people but to enjoy it. Whenever he took somebody out as he was approaching the door on an Aff L1 he would always ask if you are ready, on my sisters jump she asked him whteher he is ready. From then on he always told her that he was ready and he never forgot to play rock/paper/scissors with her ( to see who jumps first). One of the most important things he taught me was to know when to say No that is something I will hold with me my whole life He was a great friend and a great mentor, i feel honored to have known him. My condolances to Cayllie and Shanna and Taya. and finally t may you rest in peace Dian, Lerissa, Pieter and Hilda Kemp -
Canopy Progression after a long Layoff.
gainer replied to hparrish's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I had a layoff of about six months, not as long as yours but similar. I used to jump a 2.2 loaded velo, size 103, after my accident is simple took a canopy as big as feel I needed to go, 200 skymaster, and jumped that, then I progressed downwards again as fast as i felt comfortable, I only got back on any high performance canopy after I was confident I could habdle it and even then I only did 90's or smaller on landing Just take it slow and don't rush, you've got time. -
I was recently in a swooping crash which resulted in the helmet being broken up into three major pieces anda gazillion others. The fact that I even wore a weak, off the shelf helmet saved my life. I am convinced that even wearing something will always help even if it is in the grand scheme of things a "weak" helmet. I would rather wear a helmet and never use it than not have one and need to use it. I know, it saved my life
