  1. No, this mode of operating will assist in someone's death at some point. Make sure you are not bringing it up like you a know-it-all asshat is more the lesson...if someone brings up my gear as a problem and it turns out to be shear ignorance, I still thank them and consider it an opportunity to teach them something new.
  2. That reminded me...I scratched from my jump #13 when rig I was jumping wasn't packed in time. The Otter had an engine failure on that load and everyone was out at 9k, scattered 5-10 miles out from the DZ. Found a load of people who dropped in on a guy getting ready for a BBQ...the good host broke out the beer The plane landed fine at a nearby airport.
  3. Here here! As a citizen of the great state of New Hampshire I can appreciate that.
  4. Whatever you buy, consider checking out www.skydivingmovies.com and try to buy them through the ads there...proceeds keep that website rolling. That site has a ton of great free videos that people have made. Small_Balls_Tracking is one of my favorite BASE videos with some great music and editing. And if you find you get your fix from there...there will be a link to donate to the site. And no...I have no affiliation with the site...just a fan.
  5. My one Dave Hersey story... Up in the SNE loft, a rigger is assembling my new rig and I'm watching it all go on. Dave is packing a reserve and watching whats going on, but not saying much. As the rigger is putting my Vigil in, Dave looks at the rig, looks at me, and asked dramatically "So...why'd you decide to go with experimental equipment?" See you there Papa Smurf...
  6. I second that...I jump at the DZ he's at mostly, and when he heard I was starting to jump camera I got an email from him saying 'dude, talk to me before you jump...I don't want you getting hurt'.
  7. Yah...if you could put other people flying in there that'll be great, LOL.
  8. Thanks for the reply...Brian replied and says it should work just fine. I'll demo one this summer and will post the results on how well it fits. My rigger also says he could add some padding to the D-bag to help fill the space. I'm also trying to decide if it would make more sense for me to downsize my rig to a J3 and sell my current getup as a complete kit. A 170 would give me a WL of 1.38:1 which I think will keep me happy into 1k jumps.

They've got an European mirror that seems to be working well... http://www.d3company.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=92
  10. Does anyone have any experience with putting a Lotus 170 into a Javelin Odyssey J4.5 (size for a 190 - 210 main)? I have an old 190 Saber in there now and it fits well...not snug, not loose. D-bag is made for a 210. Damn easy to pack Thanks in advance...
  11. Sounds much like Microsoft's Passport services from years ago. Online retailers can hook in with their authentication infrastructure to allow for single-sign on and allow data to be entered once and usable at all the retailers...such as ship to address, for example. The initiative didn't pan out like they hoped, tho they are still using it for their own sites and services. I applaud your efforts in making skydiving software of whatever kind. Keep at it, but remember that most people pay for nothing if they can get it for free, and most people won't trust any one online entity with their data. It doens't matter that we all do this many times over with our free email services, online banking, online investing, and on and on and on.
  12. Chase it down with a multi vitamin and plenty of water...a balanced meal! To the OP: If you are not a good saver, you must become one. Check out a book called "Automatic Millionaire" by James Dent (I think thats his name). Its a quick book, and its not a get-rich-quick thing...its a method for organizing your income and investments to help with saving for the future. You will not be a healthy, active, skydiver for your entire life, so you'll need this since you won't have any health care, and some day you'll be too old and frail to work. Learn to do taxes, and don't screw around with paying them. Finding yourself oweing the govt $100,000 in back taxes because you spent 7 years not paying in will really screw your future up. Good luck!

Never worked with her, but over the Christmas boogie she was working hard in the tunnel and in the air, and I had made a mental note to get some training from her someday. She was incredibly professional, dedicated to the people she was training, and just seemed like a hell of a lot of fun. Good for her!
  14. Thanks for the reply =) Turns out it was easier than I expected...turn on Apple Remote Desktop under System Preferences --> Sharing. then use a VNC viewer. Also enable the "VNC viewers may control screen with password" The refresh rate isn't all that good, but it works.
  15. Anyone know of a free product that'll let me remotely control a Mac OS X machine from Windows XP/Vista? MS offers a free RDP client for OS X --> XP/etc that works pretty well...so I have that problem solved, now need to go the other direction.
  16. I could not find this thread in a search...do you happen to have a title or can post the URL? I tend to have a lot of line (28+ inches) between the first stow and the end of the risers. Thanks in advance!
  17. Contact the USPA and see what they say...I believe those fall under the Basic Safety Recommendations, so they can be changed by the local DZ with certain rules (but I'm not sure). If its a hazard I'm sure they'll help you make appropriate changes there. [Edited for clarity]
  18. When skydivingmovies.com comes back up, search for and check out a video called crash.wmv...it was posted in the last month or so. Watch how fast someone head down can zoom across the sky and potentially kill someone else. The reality is that head down is far more dangerous for other skydivers than you appear to believe it is.
  19. I am dizzy reading this thread. Since you don't feel that Billvon is experienced enough, please list the experience level of the person you'd like an answer from (jump #'s, years in sport, ratings (S&TA, IE, etc)). I made a New Years resolution to not berate anyone on this board.
  20. Man, this thread made me laugh and smile...awesome hearing about someone coming back into the sport who obviously has a legacy in it. Welcome back!!
  21. Thanks...I went there first, but the picture is very small and they don't appear to have a larger version there.
  22. I think a buddy of mine is in the group photo on the cover of this month's Skydiving magazine (with the perris jet). Does anyone happen to have a scan of it they could post? Low rez is fine...I want to email it to him. I don't have a scanner and his mag subscription gets sent to his home, several thousand miles from where he'll be for a while... Thanks!
  23. This site maintains a large database of DZs, and since its not controlled by the USPA you will find USPA member and non-member dropzones here. USPA publishes their member dropzones by state in their magazine and website.
  24. Is that really their only reason for wanting to regulate it? No identified problems or issues?
