  1. My memory is getting so bad---I can safely hide my own Easter eggs---but the H/C is a "Secret" made by the Altitude Shop (now defunct) in Vallejo Calif. They also made a pig rig called the "Top Secret" (I had one many years ago with a Stratostar. I think they also made a rig called the "Classifier". Maybe Howard White can enlighten. Dan Poynter's Parachute Manual may have some info. Remember when 1 1/2 shot releases were standard? What's the problem? _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  2. Losing Dan-O leaves a tremendous void. He will truly be missed. My prayers and heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Fly free Dan-O. Blue skies _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  3. I always had soft, easy stand-ups whenever I jumped mine too. An exception was when I jumped it at Crested Butte Colorado once. Field elevation somewhere around 9000 MSL. Landed like the proverbial "sack of sh*t". Hit 5 points of contact though (2 feet, 2 knees, and my forehead)! _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  4. Very sad news. Big loss. He was a 'good one'. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  5. Longtall - Definitely one ugly canopy! I think this is actually a picture of your "Puke". Did you buy that thing from Bill Roberts? This is Albuquerque jumper - Linda Roberts. She used to jump this "Puke" back in '81. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  6. Terry it's yours. It seems to be in real good shape. Give it a good home. If you decide you don't want it then 'play it forward'. PM me, we'll work out the shipping. I had a couple of others express interest by PM. Sorry guys, wish I had several. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  7. Mine is a beautiful purple (I named it "The Grape"). Condition and airworthiness is a question mark. It's been partially packed for many, many years. I didn't jump it often. At least, I live in a dry climate so it might be okay, but I can't say for certain. Terry - Dan - The Grape is pretty-much free to a 'good home'. It was a fun canopy for an occasional non-square jump! _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  8. Remember the RWPC? Anybody got one? Anybody want one? _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  9. A letter to Parachutist (April 08) from Tom "Crunk" Craighead announced he has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer (a fact many of us already knew). Tom is one of the skydiving's "old-timers" (late 1950's). He could use some good vibes. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  10. Always the gentleman. Lowell you touched many of us and will be dearly missed. Thank you! My condolences to Dori, sons, family and friends. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  11. Hi Tall One - It was summer of '84 on a demo for a street carnival in Wheat Ridge CO. (see earlier posts). Les was one of the jumpers lost. I think he trained with the club in Albq. (definitely jumped there for a while). I have the news footage. Not a nice sight. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  12. There was a guy who ran a jump operation in New Mexico, in the early 80s. John Early. The memory's fuzzy but seems I heard he got busted for 'gun running' and might still be a prison guest somewhere in Brazil. Anyone remember him or know his status? _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  13. I wasn't on the 7th Army Parachute Team but I remember your grandfather very well. I hope he is well and healthy. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  14. To you, as well, Nick. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  15. One time, traveling to Japan for an international Track and Field event, I filled out a form that asked Race: ? I put: 220 and 440. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!

  19. I gotta agree. "Off The Windline" (next question: what is a windline?) was tidbits about members in general: who had stopped by PCA/USPA HQ; who had written recently; who was where, who had done what; etc. It fostered a real sense of belonging. Can't understand why Norm wouldn't want to move to the DC area, though _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!

  23. HW -- Agreed: "a life cut much too short". Bill gave so much, and still had so much more he would have given. Thx for the pictures _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  24. I remember Tom Phillips. He was working as a rigger at the Air Force Academy at the time he went in at Casa Grande. I think a bunch of us had gone down for Thanksgiving weekend. I just ran across a couple pictures of him 2 days ago (don't know where I put them though). _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
  25. Here is mine. It was one of those cheap blue paperback jobs. First jump was a Cessna 195 with 18th Abn Corps club, Ft Bragg, in July '66. Doug Colpert C-2993 was my JM. Jump "F" was JM'd & signed off by Walt Green D-835. Actually got cleared for FF that month (jump H) but didn't get back in the air until Lakewood NJ in October. Like Howard White I have some (not nearly as many) "Norduyn Noorseman" stamps too. Bill Hammell (UK D-367) put me out and cleared me for FF at LSPC. My friend Curt Curtis (then B5044, he got his "C" a few days later.) jumpmastered me on my first free-fall in Oct '66. Some place along the line an ASO transferred the 1st couple of pages to a 'respectable, hard cover log book'. _________________________________________ The older I get, the better I was!
