So what have we learnt from this? Floppies suck. They are slow, have very low capacity and are independable as well. Even considered getting a ZIPdrive or something similar? Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven/skydive

Hey Marisa, Didn't you happen to show up at Perris this year's july 4th and 5th? Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven/skydive

Cool idea When I'm buying my first (new/custom) canopy, there's going to be a lot of black on it! Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Been able to? Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Boy, am I glad Texel isn't one of them! The Caravan usually goes to 13,000 ft. and the Let even takes you to 14 grand

Let me see if I get this right: The floppy itself checks out ok after a surface scan and all that. You can apparently cd to the floppy and do a DIR (or if you're afraid of DOS: "open" the floppy *rinse mouth*). But you cannot read the file or copy it. a) Try another computer. Floppies sometimes "malfunction" because drive heads are aligned slightly differently. I admit this is rare, but it can happen. b) Have you tried copying the entire floppy byte by byte and writing the raw image back to another floppy? Otherwise, it seems like the FAT may be screwed up. In which case recovering the file is likely to be hell. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Gee. And I used to think smoking weed was illegal in California Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

I have a pair of Sorz goggles with smoke lens (and I like them a lot) At Perris, I did my last 2 AFF jumps with those and back in Holland I did my checkout jump at Texel with the same goggles. Neither instructor objected. In fact, I still remember the little conversation I had before I first used them: Me: Hey Stuart, can I use these, or do you want me to wear clear lenses? JM: Do you think you'll do well with those? Me: Well, shouldn't really matter, but ehm... JM: Tell you what. If you do well you can wear 'em. But if you screw up, you gotta wear the crappy ones, ok? Me: Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Is it just me, or are audible altimeter mounts usually on the right hand side of a helmet? If indeed so, what is the deeper, mysterious underlying reason for that? I'd much rather have it on the left. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Okay, you asked for it: Pi is a number that has an infinite number of decimal digits. The first 20 decimals are 3.14159265358979323946 if I remember correctly, by heart. (0) The diameter is twice the radius (1) The circumference(sp?) of a flat disc equals 2 times pi (2) The area of a flat disc equals pi times the radius times the radius (3) The area of a sphere equals 4 times pi times the radius times the radius (4) The volume of a sphere equals 4 over 3 times pi times the radius times the radius times the radius It's not actually physics though. It sheer math. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Nice pic Thanks! Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

You mean the '^' I guess? On my keyboard (standard English lay-out) it's under shift-6. It's ASCII code 94 if I'm not mistaken. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

It would be very nice and much appreciated if you could do that. All I see is Error code: 100 Couldn't decode map: But that's probably me. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Allow me to be the arrogant former physics student and refresh your memory. (0) The diameter (d) is twice the radius (r). (1) The circumference(sp?) of a 2-D disc = 2*pi*r (2) The area of a 2-D disc = pi*r^2 (3) The area of a 3-D sphere = 4*pi*r^2 (4) The volume of a sphere = 4/3*pi*r^3 Note that (1) and (2) are each other's integral/derivative. Same goes for (3) and (4). That's not coincidental. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Oops! He ain't. I forgot. Ah well, I'm sure you can get that kind of stuff by mail order as well. Or buy them from the WWW. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

Hmm. Why don't you get one of those automatic wanking devices... They're available at any sex shop in Amsterdam and probably a hell of a lot cheaper than that M3T thingy Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
