  1. Geez, don't you get dizzy looking at that? Nice one though. I'll post my desktop tomorrow; I'm currently sitting at another machine. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  2. Are you getting new ones? If so, do I get a choice of colors? Sorry for keeping asking question after question... Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  3. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  4. Say Michele, What's the deal with bringing drinks to Perris? I once made the terrible, unforgiving mistake of trying to walk into the Bombshelter with a can of Bud in my paw
  5. Michele, have a look at WinMX. http://www.winmx.com Oh, and if you'd like to know more about MP3, try http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven/whuffo/mp3 The text is a bit rough as I'm still editing it, but it should give you some general clues. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  6. A troll is somebody who deliberately posts nonsense or insulting messages, just to get responses or to piss people off. The best way to deal with such people is to just ignore them, which sometimes requires a lot of self-discpline. If you ignore a troll, he/she/it will go away because he/she/it isn't getting any response, which is usually the only thing he/she/it wants. They are pathetic, annoying, desperate, socially disturbed people best left alone. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

    funny jokes

I quickly translated these from Dutch, so the English might be a bit crappy. But here goes anyway: Two vampires are hanging in a belfry. One says "Man, do I have an appetite!" The other vampire replies "You'd better not go out anymore. It's almost getting light." "But I really need something now!", the first vampire protests. "Ah well. It's your call. But you'd better not..." the second vampire tries. "Fuck it, I'm going! I'll be back very fast." the first one insists. And out he goes. Within a few seconds, he's back already, with blood all over his mouth and nose. "Gee. How did you do that so fast?" the second vampire wonders. "Well", begins the first vampire, pointing at a nearby lamppost, "do you see that lamppost over there?" "Sure", replies the second vampire. To which the first vampire replies: "I didn't!" A couple of nights later, the first vampire is happily flying around when he meets an English vampire. After the usual greeting and idle chit-chat, our vampire suggests: "Shall we grab a drink?" "Sure, that'd be nice", the English vampire replies. So they fly into a pub and sit down at the bar. "What are you guys having?", asks the bar tender. "I'll have a pint of AB-positieve blood please", orders the first vampire. The bar tender pours a pint of blood and sets it down in front of the first vampire. "And you?", does he ask the English vampire. "I'll have a pint of hot water", is the answer. The bar tender frowns, but pours the English vampire what he ordered anyway. The first vampire is completely puzzled and asks the English vampire: "What the fuck is that???" The English vampire raises his eyebrows, picks a used tampon from his pocket and in a dry voice announces: "Tea time!" Disclaimer: This is intended as a humorous post. It is not my intention to insult any vampires or lampposts. If you are offended by these jokes, don't read them again. Please don't start flaming me, for I will probably ignore it anyway. 8. Struggling temptation here, but I won't bite! Not this time. So it's Python time again, uh Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  9. Reminds me of a story I was told by one of my AFF JMs who's a tandem master as well. Apparently, he had some big guy who didn't arch, but rather de-arched instead. This caused some sort of horseshoe situation with the drogue. Needless to say the JM was frantically struggling to sort things out. Back on the ground, the guy went like "Gee, I think we were a little unstable there...", leaving the JM thinking "man, you have no idea!" Bottom line is that you're right, indyz. Although tandems have a low accident rate, it's NOT foolproof! Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven

    LOL! Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  11. Thanks for the info - it's much appreciated! Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  12. His homepage is filled with all sorts of annoying popup spam crap, that's for sure Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  13. Okay, that does it. Screw you guys I'm goin' home. Talkin' ear warmers is where I draw the line!
  14. Didn't see this problem reported between now and a month ago, so I guess I'd better post it. I was browsing the photo gallery (to be exact, I was looking at harro's picture of his Voodoo, at URL http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Photo_Submissions/Boogies_and_Parties&image=Paul::s Voodoo.JPG&img=&tt=) I tried sending as a postcard, but clicking the "Preview Postcard" button gave the following: Error: Content-type: text/html Could not open /usr/home/dropzone/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/data/includes/stylesheets.ssi. You must use an absolute path No such file or directory Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  15. Whoa dude! That's one cool rig! Good to know that you can get patterns on your Voodoo! I like the idea of that falling guy in the middle of the eye. Maybe I'll copycat that when I get my own rig Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  16. Don't worry. The post was actually intended as sort of a pun. Like: "why the hell would you want to know all that???" That's why I included all that useless info that the OP didn't ask for
  17. A couple more questions about the Digitude: There seems to be a pro model that shows 10 ft. increments. Sounds nice but ehm, are there situations in which you really need that kind of accuracy? How is the Digitude's accuracy when you're close to the ground? The altimeters that I wore as a student seem to show significant deviations when you got below, say, 500 ft. or so. I see that the Digitude is available in black and blue only. Does anyone have any experience with coloring (e.g. painting) these things? Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  18. I can imagine. Guess I'll just have to try the Digitude to see if I like it or not. Yeah, I've been considering that too. I just didn't know if it was possible. Now I do. Thanks!
  19. I'm 24 years (minus two weeks) old, weigh 65kg (equals 145 lbs) without gear, am 1.67 m (equals 5"4) tall, load at a mere 1.0 and (in response to your other post) have 19 jumps. I am not religious, not superstitious and my favorite bands are Queen and Dire Straits. Anything else you wanna know? Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  20. I think that at 99 out of 100 DZs, they will either: 1) refuse to let you jump (unless you go through the FJC and all, which of course is not what you want); 2) require you to go through a refresher course 3) require you to do a so-called check-out jump The decision is primarily based on your logbook: currency, number of jumps and the remarks in your logbook. I suggest you call/email a couple of DZs and ask where they stand. As for my own experience: after having made 17 jumps at Perris, I had to return to my home country without a license. My new home-DZ back here in Holland only required a check-out jump and didn't even ask about emergency procedures or anything. But then again, I had a signed logbook not containing any serious incidents (except maybe for jump #14 You can read about it on my website if you want: http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven/cgi-bin/logbook.cgi?equip=0&remarks=1&jump=14), and proving that I was current. Keep in mind, though, that most DZs will require you to be a USPA member. At most DZs, joining the USPA is an instantaneous process. There is a 40-day membership available if you want. If I recall correctly, it costs less than a lift ticket. Good luck Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  21. Jabeln79> Anyone superstitious....... Not me. I usually wear the same helmet, jumpsuit, rig and altimeter, but that's merely out of practical considerations. These things simply fit me best (or, in the case of the altimeter, I like the color best). I will jump with other suits, rigs etc. if "mine" are not available, as long as I feel comfortable enough with the "replacement(s)". I always thoroughly check my (rental) rig before the first jump of the day, briefly check it before every next jump, check my altimeter during the plane ride and touch all my handles just before jump run. But I consider this common sense rather than superstition. Oh and btw, before you ask: no, I'm not religious. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  22. I'm about ready to buy myself some equipment. I probably won't have the money for a rig yet, but I should be able to afford the other stuff, e.g. jumpsuit, altimeter etc. Normally, I'd start asking questions on my DZ, but since it's been closed for the winter (dammitdammitdammit!) that's not much of an option any more and I could really use some advice. First, I'm having a look at the Digitude altimeter. How fragile/robust is it? Can you clearly read the display under all circumstances e.g. clouds, bright sunlight, through goggles with a dark (smoke) lens? Other experiences?I've been reading some old posts and all I found out is that the Digitude is lightweight and has a light. If it's not gonna be a Digitude, I'll go with the Alti-III. I just found out that Square1 offers a tie-dye version. Sounds really cool My second point concerns jumpsuits and helmets. Can you do freeflying with a suit that has grippers (e.g. a Tony Pit Special) and vice versa can you do (basic) RW with a freefly suit? Are there any jumpsuits that are suitable for both RW and freeflying?Same question for helmets. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  23. I have something like that, too. See the URL below. It's not searchable yet, but I'm working on that. Oh, btw: your site gave me this: Database Results Error Description: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '>'. Number: -2147217900 (0x80040E14) Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Isn't Micro$oft great... Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
  24. [Virus stuff] If you were using Linux/FreeBSD or some other well-designed operating system, viruses would be way, way less harmful... Sorry, couldn't help myself. Just had to post this. Alphons http://www.liacs.nl/~avwerven
