  1. I am just wondering what in your opinion is wrong with STI. I did my first 4 SL jumps there. Personally I wouldn't mind going back there, but it is just way too far for me to drive, and there are options closer ot home. 2. Actually I am getting closer and closer to being a vegan. Not eating animal products allowed me to actually lose 30 lbs after I quit smoking.....wich in turn allowed me to jump out off planes..... SkyDekker PS. I am sure there will be even more flaming now
  3. I am not quite sure what you mean by that? Actually, I just started thinking about the possibility of doing AFF in the states. The problem with Skydive Burnaby for me is, they require payment in two installments. One installment you pay before the first half of teh course, the second you pay befoer you can start the second half of the course. Normally I would not have a problem with this, however I could get transfered on a weeks notice. I don't want to be in a situation where I want to go back to them and try and get some money back cauz I am only 1 jump into it or some scenario like that. The same somewhat goes for going to the states, since I am sure I cannot proceed with a US AFF program in Canada.... Ohh well, we'll just have to see what thesituation is come April/May. Thsi whole conversation may be for nothing since I may be in Ottawa or anywhere else in Canada... "We cannot do great things, only small things with great love" Mother Theresa
  4. One more reason I like being a vegetarian...... Let the flaming begin....
  5. yeah I have actually been in contact with two DZO's od DZs close ot me (Burnaby and SWOOP for those interested) and I have visited and spend some time on both those DZs. There is a St. Catharines Skydiving Club, but they jump from the Burnaby DZ and I am still not sure wat the difference between the two is. I am trying to find a place where I obviously can get good and safe instruction, but due to taxes etc in Canada, the US is actually cheaper for me, even with the current exchange rates. Just hoping for some advice from all you guys and find out what the possibilities are and if a US A license would allow me to jump on Canadian Dzs or if I can use it to apply for a Cnadian license. I am not looking for a home dz, just because I know I am not going to live in this area much longer. Actually I am fairly sure I will not see the end of the year in this area.... 6. I particularly like how he has a picture on his site with his ex-gf blacked out. He apologizes for the pic, but said he put it on teh site anyways because he looks good in it..... Sounds to me like this guy is a couple of fries short of a happy meal...... SkyDekker "We cannot do great things, only small things with great love" Mother Theresa
  7. I am just outside St. Catharines.... Close to Niagara Falls and Queenston/Lewiston..... "We cannot do great things, only small things with great love" Mother Theresa
  8. It has been really warm for the time of year here in the Niagara Region of Canada. Bad for ice wine production, good for people
  9. One of my options, as a Canadian close to the US border, is to do my AFF progression in the States. The DZ closes to me in the US (and actually closer to me than most Canadian DZs) is Frontier Skydiving. Just wanted to know is anyone on here is familiar with them (I know Andyman is) and what there thoughts are. Thanks, SkyDekker "We cannot do great things, only small things with great love" Mother Theresa
  10. ***the DZ with the AFF program is probably a USPA affiliate. The one with the PFF will be a CSPA DZ[/quote} Actually, the DZ offering the AFF program is affiliated with both organization. At least that is what I understand from their website. If I get an US a license, would that allow me to jump on any of the canadian DZs? 12. yeah, yaeh, I love you too, now where is my beer?????? j/k
  13. After my 4 SL jumps this summer, I ahve decided to save some money and go do AFF or PFF at one of the local dropzones on or near the Niagara Peninsula here in the great white north, Canada. I ahve found one DZ with an AFF program identical to the US AFF program. Then there is one DZ with a PFF program requiring 2 IAD jumps prior to doing their program. My question however is: What are the (a?) license requirements in Canada. After graduating from AFF, what would I have to do to get a license? 18. I think I am going to have to pipe in here with my $0.02. Since I grew up in Holland, with a very open-minded drug policy, I would like to think that I have a fairly liberal view of drugs. In Holland, they have two classification for drugs, they are either hard-drugs or soft-drugs. Weed and mushroom would be examples of soft-drugs while Coke, Heroin Extacy are examples of hard-drugs. Soft-drugs are condoned in Holland, they are certainly NOT legal as most people seem to think, but that is just a side note. I think that in most cases these soft-drugs are not necessarily bad for you. Smoking a joint from time to time is about as bad for you as drinking a couple of beers from time to time. I think the problem arises when it goes from recreational use to abuse, wether it be alcohol, weed or any other mind altering substance. Personally, I would prefer not to be in askydiving, flying or for that matetr driving situation with someone who is under the influence, be it drunk or stoned. The question in this case is not whether weed is bad for you, the fact is that you react slower and act differently while under the influence. If you are one of those people who think that it doesn't affect yuo, that you can act and react normally while stoned, damn, you better go buy your casket now. Hard drugs, like coke, heroine, speed, extacy etc etc have a definite addictive side to them. Some are more physically addictive, some are more mentally addictive, but the far majority of people who try them usually end up being addicted to them. The effcts on the body also usually tend to be more severe than the "softer" drugs. I think in most cases the problem may not be the drug itself. I think it is the side effects these addictions bring with them. Usually people end up having a bigger need than they can afford, or there ahbit starts to interfere with work, or relationships. And i think that goes for all drugs, incl alcohol. Like I said before, the problem starts when recreational use turns into abuse. I think that problem is far more likely when hard-drugs are involved. And yes I realize there are exceptions to any and everything. In the end I prefer to be as safe as possible when it comes to skydiving. I think that any mind and state altering substance interferes with that principle. Since it takes the body roughly 1 hour to break down one dose of alcohol, if you have 12 beers starting at 8 pm, you are still drunk around 9 am the next morning. Think about that the next time you are on that first load on Sunday morning........... Believe it or not, but all the guys, all three in the car and the one on the sled were stone sober. I'd hate to see what these guys would do drunk....

The best footage I have seen here at work is a couple of university students trying to kill themselves in the following way. They had tied one of those little plastic snow sleds behind a car and were dragging it behind a car in our parking lot. The best part was when they made a turn a little too fast and the guy rolls off the sled and cracks his skull on a tree in the middle of the parking lot........ we actually have it on tape, sad for the guy, but if you are going to do stupid things, you deserve to be laughed at when it all goes wrong.... The title escapes me, but if you do a search in this forum for his name, I am sure it will come up. It is a great book!!!!!
