You would be suprised. I stand up my downwinders, but I don't go down wind unless it is less than 10 mph. It does take good technique and timing though. William

I was one of those people. First load was fine, second got a little wet. I normally wouldn't have went but I have not been able to jump as much since I have been recalled to the Marine Corps. William

those that have and those that will right. But seriously, we need to know when not to hook it. Strong winds are one of those times. I hope your friend gets better soon. William

< I might consider a new Hornet but the container will be used.> Just thought I would give some general advice on buying gear. If given a choice, rather buy a new container and a used main. There are a couple of reasons for this. First off, you are less likely to keep a main for the entire life of it than you are a container. Most people will switch out their main well before their container. If you buy a new main and sell it in a few hundred jumps, you will take a much bigger loss than if you had purchased a new one. Secondly, your comfort level will be a lot higher if you get a container made to your exact measurements. You might find a container close enough to fit you and your canopies but it will not be as good as one made to your exact measurements. As far as the cypress goes, i would bite the bullet and buy a new one. There is a lot of expense in maintaining a cypress. When you look at being closer to this maintenance and the fact that cypress' have gotten cheaper lately (less than a $1000) and that after 12 years you basically have to throw them away, and I think it just makes better sense to buy a new one. When Should The Thought Of Swooping.....
prost replied to rgoper's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Bob should buy a VX46 and try a 540 degree hook turn. Seriously though, there is no right answer and boob will probably buy the smallest canopy that anyone tells him is ok. William -
I start out trying to but together a rig like that but it ends up being a $5000 one. William

To get back to your origanal question. I see a decent turnover at every drop zone. People will get out, and some will go but come back later. I haven't been jumping that long (a little over 4 years), but I see some of the same people I started jumping with. The DZ where I started jumping closed. However, I recently went to the next closest drop zone and ran into about 15 people who were jumping at the drop zone when I started skydiving. The more time goes by the more I get into it. Some people are going to get out but enough will stay in so you can talk about the old times. William

Welcome to the club. As far as the gold freefall badge, I have never even thought of getting mine. Maybe I should just so I can hang it up at work or something. William

You know your a skydiver when the best part about a new job is that it will allow you to jump more. William
