TSO testing is kind of useless as you state. The real value to the TSO system is the requirement for maintaining manufacturing standards and traceability of materials. There is also a procedure for bringing design flaws to the attention of the FAA, and the manufacturer. One that does not involve accusations and angry claims on social media.

That is my understanding. That most of the new containers that we now jump are incremental upgrades and are still approved under approvals granted many years ago. I am not an expert on this and there are probably exceptions, but it is generally true.

There is a reason container systems are TSOed with drop testing and not static testing. Of course the Talon TSO was issued many years ago and probably was tested with velcro riser covers. The scenario with a total mal where the reserve risers need to pop the covers will always be high speed. The RI rpc with a nearly 3 ft long spring is a very high drag piece of equipment. The force generated is much more than that used in the video. I'm sure that by now Sandy, who is retired from the business is aware of this thread. He has come under personal attack by a man who is in a business dispute with him. Since it is unlikely that Sandy is going to dignify this with any sort of reply, which he absolutely should not do, I feel someone should point this out. There are not as many Curvs in the marketplace as some of the other brands. But there are many nonetheless. I would have to say that is not the case in our local ICUs. We have still quite a few, but not as many as in the past wave. And the number is already slowly declining as are deaths. The Omicron wave began here about New Years and of course deaths are a lagging indicator. Many of the active hospital cases we have are Delta patients. Also the total cases considered active, but not necessarily in the hospital at the moment are over 10% of the number for the whole epidemic. The test positivity rate is over 20% and we are not really testing everyone. Omicron is still very present yet the number of hospitalizations is declining. If it was as virulent as Delta we would be completely snowed under. And even in the areas with less vaccinations there is not nearly the same level of distress. It is very clear that Omicron is not making people as sick as the other variants. Where am I going? I guess I am just trying to make sense of the fact that there is a large difference in this wave. And I'm struggling to understand where we are going. But I can say for sure that where I live the death numbers are going down while the case numbers 4 weeks ago were exploding. And with death being a trailing indicator my main point is that Omicron is not causing as much SARS. It is causing distress, but not destroying lungs like the earlier variants.

You would need to know the cases per day to make the comparison. BTW, where is that chart from?

Sorry. On a per case basis was what I meant. I am largely basing it on what has been happening here. An unprecedented number of new cases daily, but not a corresponding increase in ICU occupancy or deaths. The need for ventilators is simply not at the scale of the Delta or earlier waves. Although I suppose that may be strongly influenced by our over 80% vaccination rate.
