I completely understand what you're going through but don't be too hard with yourself. You could have put them all in front of the TV during the whole day. Would have hem risked an injury? Probably not. Was it the right thing to do? Certainly not. Kids need to run, climb, jump, swim,... to develop a decent body coordination. This is not without risk, but so is life. I really don't see the point of this "exercise": a PC held upside down has not a remote chance to inflate, and it won't learn you to perform a better pull. OTOH the bridle dancing in the wind while you're holding the PC could snag it and cause a PC in tow...or even tangle with your arm. She is only doing tandems: sponsors and/or insurances don't allow her to skydive solo. According to one of her TI, she seems to be cool. Her husband must have a couple hundred jumps under his belt. According to the same TI, he's doing good in freefall for his jump # because he did a lot of tunnel time. All your dropzone are belong to us!!!!111!

IMNO (in my newbie's opinion), the RSL is a tad better than punch-punch because it won't activate unless the left riser has disconnected. With a properly maintained gear, the left yellow cutaway cable is a little bit longer than the right one to ensure that the left riser will disconnect last. UNLESS a main riser or line is snagged, the RSL is the best way to have a fast reserve activation just after the main has cleared (of course, it's still strongly advised to pull silver in case of RSL failure). RSL isn't perfect and can lead to more trouble in some circumstances but gives me the better odds to have a clean reserve above my head fast. So I'll continue to use one for a looong time. I'll also continue to train for my original emergency procedure: look re...duh....yellow on my rig - grab yellow both hands - look silver - pull yellow and clear cables - grab silver both hands - pull silver and clear cable - arch! OTOH from now I'll make 1 extra stow and leave less free lines than what the Icon manual says (~ 60 cms). I prefer to deal with line twists under my big and generally docile canopy than having to dump the reserve into a nylon mess overhead with all fingers and toes crossed. Congrats for your first jumps, guys. I still remember clearly my whole AFF progression and my first solo... and this was one year ago. Those memories are really burned into my brain. From a complete newbie... Horseshoe?? I think that your neck, elbow and shoulders need to have a 270° rotation arc for you to successfully use a hookknife in this situation... This being said I have a pair of hookknives but I don't think that they can be used in many situations... All your dropzone are belong to us!!!!111!

I use one since 6 jumps. The first WE I set it up for break-off, opening and hard deck alts. Then I thought about it and decided it would be better for a newbie like me to have only one setting at my hard deck (2K) as a reminder if I screw up royally. Like many said, it much more important to develop the internal clock and the ability to eyeball the opening altitude. IMHO and instructors please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think that an audible is a good thing for an AFF student. Heck, I even don't think it's wise to buy gear before the end of student status... All your dropzone are belong to us!!!!111!

IMO, the RSL won't fire the reserve unless YOU cut away (or the RSL riser fails). The horsehoe or baglock situations don't change the way it works. I think it not logical to ditch the RSL because of problems induced by poor maintenance/rigging of the container. All your dropzone are belong to us!!!!111!
