Eloy had a guy that would police it nonstop, if you didn't go by the rules, he would hop on his bicycle, and meet you out in the landing area. We saw this happen on numerous occasions. I WISH we had someone to do the same in Raeford. On any given day, any given load, you will see canopies coming in every which way...I never felt so threatened while under canopy until we made RPC our home DZ. ....but they still let free fliers out first too...

Who needs to go to Hooters when you have the Bent Prop??!!!???? We have gotten nicely hammered there many times.

Yup, Raeford jumper here too. We visited Suffolk a couple years ago before the pac was there and loved the vibe.

Several years ago, one of our wayward skydiver friends who was staying with us turned me on to this...and it really is VERY good!

Not to give myself too much credit, but I make the best pie crust. The absolute secret to making awesome crust is to not overwork it, if it gets mixed too much it becomes tough.. For a double crust= Cut 2/3 cup lard into 2 cups of flour and 1 tsp salt Once this is combined and crumbly (about like small peas) Use cold water to finish the process, adding a tablespoon at a time (takes about 6 - 8 Tbsp) I pull a little pile of the "crumbles" away from the rest, blend a Tbsp of the water into it, push it aside and pull another little pile of crumbles out, add water....yada yada til it is all moistened...but DON't mix it too much. PM me if you want more detailed explanation of what I mean.

Our preferred DZ is just over 2 1/2 hours away. We keep our camper there, so it is comfortable and easy(er) to justify the drive every other weekend. For a quick fix on off weekends or when the weather isn't real favorable in NC we have a DZ 4 minutes away that frequently flies jumprun over our house..

O- Type O Hero my id card says! Donated 3 days ago, and I donate every 8 weeks when they come to town. My 17 year old daughter donated for the first time 3 days ago, I'm so proud of her. We are both scheduled for Sept 11, 8 weeksfrom now...I find it very exhilerating to do such a good deed and knowing it could help any one, regardless of race, gender, etc.

You may also want to look into St. Simons Island. It is very laid back and gorgeous, I'm not sure about hotel accomodations, but the beach front is pretty much all condos.

While reading your post Wooly, I could see our bottlenecks crystal clear. The biggest problem IMO for us (and probably numerous other DZ's that aren't large), is that the "staff" is really volunteer based. We aren't busy enough to support someone who is a full time packer, so we end up with instructors, or the DZO packing...and the DZO is also a TI, AFFI....I guess where I am going with this is a bit off topic, but how do you get/encourage new packers to enter in to the picture? We have plenty of able bodied instructors who could pack the rig that they just jumped (and receive compensation for it), but they see the old guy TI doing absolutely nothing above and beyond making the jump with the student, and it snowballs. Our bottle neck seems to happen at the same place almost every weekend..the packing area. So... 1.How do you handle the old time TI who refuses to be a team player and always contributes heavily to the bottleneck? 2. How do you handle the new instructors who see the old ones doing nothing, and follow the example? My knee jerk reaction is to give none of them any work for a couple weekends, until they have to start paying out of pocket for fun jumps..LOL...but that's why I would not make a good DZO...and it would obviously be a little tough on the bottom line at the end of the weekend, because we wouldn't book as many while trying out the wake up call on the TI's that won't help pack and keep the show rolling...but maybe it would be worth a try?? Open for suggestions! Help!
