More devil's advocate Years ago they would have looked at an AFF program, solo after 7 jumps and said CRAZY!! I still think its risky now. And why arent you allowed to be good unless youve done 1000 jumps ? There is always the exception to the rule in any sport, someone with a natural talent comes thru and takes the world by storm. I have militray experience, Combat is NOT the same at all and Ive also been thru a similar experience in the sailing world. Ive done a few jumps when I did nothing but track as long as I could and it was a great buzz. My question still remains tho, what kind of distances can be covered in a track. Like how much separation in yardage can be expected when you peel off ? I know this is "how long is a piece of string" question but I just want to start to get some perspective. Offer up some numbers as an example someone ?

I know it all depends on your posn but I was just looking for a very ballpark idea to try and unerstand separation a bit better. 10 feet? 1000 feet ? 2mph fwd? 20mph? Ive seen myself on video and there is no reference point, its impossible (for mee) to judge the speed or the distance. ________________________________________ 1.618 !

OK, thanks people. You have confirmed my feeling that its prob too small for me right now and Im never comfortable when the instructor/vendor has a conflict of interest. Im looking to buy my first rig and a very well respected instructor has offered me a used Sabre 170, reserve and cont with cypres2. Canopy is prob 8 years old but only 3-400 jumps and in good nick. Dont know what the res is. Cypres due for 1st 4 year service next year. £1700 the lot. I wiegh 165lbs & Ive been jumping Telesis 200 last 30 jumps. Is this a safe step down for me sizewise ? Thankyaaarl veeery much!

I think it is a good thing to find out who your real friends are. I just would have preferred finding out in another way than I did. I had the same experience, 18 months in plaster and it polarises your friends into said degrees. Look at it this way, you are better off finding out where your friends sit in the spectrum sooner rather than later so there is a silver lining to your injury. ________________________________________ 1.618 !
