  1. i would love to shimmell, but i am actually moving to orlando in two weeks and i have a bunch of stuff to do and prepare and all that fun, i wish i could, would love to get down there and get some canopy coaching and be around all that knowledge, but i will have to skip it this time. 2. practice, practice, practice.... a problem that i was having at first was getting discouraged because my consistency wasnt there and i wasnt swooping like i wanted to. the reason was because i didnt have enough practice. i am getting better and my consistancy is getting better. but only cause i have been taking the time to put as many jumps on the canopy i have as i can. i think sometimes people get impatient, lord knows i do. i will say though, at 500 jumps (if your profile is current) dont expect to be super consistant anyway. it takes time, i know people with a couple thousand jumps that arent fully consistant that being said, if you feel you must change canopies i recommend the mamba, they make it in a 150 and is the best all around hp canopy i have jumped to date. you can fly it fast, slow, and anywhere in between. the recovery arc is super long and you can be off in your turn altitude and still get some good swooping out of it and at the same time learn from your mistakes. it also has the kinda flare you need to dig if you need and also to stand up every landing. just my .02 The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  3. i load my mamba 150 at a little under 1.8 and i have been getting some pretty good distance for a guy that sucks at swooping. you should try one of those, demo one and you will love the speed and distance you can get out of it. im sure if someone my size with a lot more skill was jumping it they could easily get some competition winning type runs with it The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  4. got my 150 loaded at 1.75. love it, amazing flare, love the long recovery arc, had some problems with the fast openings at first but then realized i suck at packing, great canopy, the great thing is that it flies however i want it to, i did some video for a buddy of mine under canopy, he jumps a spectre 190 and i stayed up with him just fine in brakes. at the same time i brought it in downwind on a 270, smoked it across the landing area and had enough shutdown power to stand it up with very little step out. great great great canopy, i do want to try the new katana 150 to see how it compares The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  5. put about 10 jumps on it, great canopy, the thing that surprised me the most was the amazing flare, the toggle pressure remains heavy throughout the flare which means the tail stays inflated the whole time. got a great swoop out of it and shut it down without even a stepout on the landing on a no-wind day, great canopy. jumped it 5 or 6 times and now i ordered one to jump it more. will post a follow-up after 100 jumps or so
  6. my tandem cutaway was on jump 2 of phase 2 with an experienced jumper, tension knots, passenger screamed like a little girl The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  7. i had my first(and only so far) tandem cutaway during my phase 2 jumps. the reserve was a strong reserve, landed just fine, The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  8. after main deployment i do the normal check from the canopy down, i give the toggles to the student to keep the occupied and do everything, check the handles, loosen them up, The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  9. its more fun not to warn them if i think they can handle the freak out, as for handle checks about a thousand times between gear up and landing, definately the big one before boarding, during hook up, before exit, and after drogue toss. 10. ive got a 1gig card from lexar, writes super fast and i normally take about a 1oo or so during the jump, i like giving the customer as much as possible to get pictures with, plus i always take some home with me at the end of the day, i need to get some of me in front of the camera The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez

  12. not really a whuffo story, but when i had like 20 jumps i was packing my first canopy with cross ports, it was one of the dropzones rental rigs and i got all freaked out about a hole being in the canopy, i quickly found the dzo and asked him about this tear in the canopy, he just laughed at me and walked off, i stood there kinda frozen till someone else told me what i was looking at. 19. i was wondering about this too, right now all i know of in the highly elliptical market in this size is the mamba, and i would like some choices for what i go to next. The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  20. this man knows whats up, i always like to see people trying to learn how to swoop on the bigger canopies, why do you have to go smaller to learn how to swoop, learn it on a 190 so that you have room to fuck up. and it is made easy by the fact that canopy manufacturers are making ellipticals in bigger sizes now. so that you can learn what you are doing on something with a lot of play in it. if you wait to start swooping on your crossfire 119 you are in a lot more trouble than if you start learning on your crossfire 169. thats just my opinion. and why is it that everyone thinks you have to wait till you're under an elliptical to start swooping, start learning on your sabre 190. i just think that if you know you are going to start swooping you should start the learning at a lower wingloading and on bigger canopies with a greater ability to get you out of the trouble you are going to get into when learning how to swoop the other thing that ticks me is that people seem to want to make fun of people flying bigger canopies. this is completely adding to the problem of people downsizing too fast. you show up at a dropzone with anything bigger than a 150 and you are doing tandems or some shit like that. i dont have too many jumps, a little over 700, but i have already seen enough people pushing their buddies to go smaller and faster than they are ready for, get coaching from the beginning, start learning how to swoop when you are under a canopy that can help you out, and have a coach help you from the beginning so that you are assured you are making progress and not just setting yourself up for a broken femur or worse. just my little rant for the day The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez

  23. i personally dont think it is a good way to earn a living, but i find that it is great for extra cash, i do videos and coaching on the weekends as a college job, and its great for that, i dont see it being my only source of income in the future but it will definately be great supplemental income The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
  24. i think the problem is that every year the wffc is the same and people feel that they do need to attend other boogies, maybe there is something we as the skydivers who come to these events can do to spice it up, get the vendors back in it but more importantly get the skydivers back in it. any suggestions? 25. what the crap was up with the music at rantoul, no offense but when i am getting psyched up to make a jump i would like to hear something other than "when i think about you i touch myself" and other like songs. it was like a country music festival with skydiving in the background, i was just really dissapointed. i was also dissapointed at the poor turnout from some of the manufacturers in this sport. just wondering if anyone else noticed the same things The only bad skydive is your last! chris "sonic wookie" harwell Piedra-belluda-roja Rodriguez
