  1. Venom looks like X-Bird. But, both wingsuits have different style of flight. And every bike have two wheels You're right, like your style
  2. Website is not very easy to navigate, are there prices somewhere? I hope they are cheap because it looks like they saved a lot on R&D by cross breading existing suits. Piranna, looks like a cross between a Phantom & Ghost. Manta, looks like a 2009-2010 TWS. Shark, looks like something BM might have come up with in recent years - form over function. Is there an aerodynamic or ergonomic theory behind the curved gripper?
  3. Hi Jeb, That's a really cool video. I really like the effect, have always like your edits. I've loved your older videos with cool aerials and cutting edge stuff but your WS flying style is getting a bit passe. Seeing you fly in high dive at a particular point, pass by close and they fly off high. It's more balls than skill. Where is the progression from there? You can only pass a point so close. Looking forward to something new like the landing stunt, WS aerobatics etc.
  4. Can you attach the config file from your flysight?
  5. How about a 3 position switch. OFF - ON (No logging) - ON (Logging) The middle position could be used when acquiring Sats on the ground and in the plane, being flicked to Logging shortly before exit. The middle position could also be more or less silent, perhaps a couple of quiet beeps to indicate that it's working and got a fix. Perhaps an option to auto adjust the volume depending on descent rate. I.E. quieter in the aircraft and under canopy and louder in freefall, similar to the way a car sat-nav increases volume with speed. Maybe we are just trying to fix problems that don't need fixing ;-) I like the simplicity of it as is.
  6. If you want more max glide than a Phantom2, there is the Ghost 2, if you want a lot more there is the Ghost 3. The suits from different manufacturers are not exactly matched. Butters: There is no equivalent to the Vampire. It's a very different beast to anything else.
  7. Exit and canopy opening detection are quite difficult to do real in real time. Look at how the barometric loggers perform and they have the advantages of being on from takeoff and no loss of signal. Even Paralog doesn't always get it right and it's not trying to do it in real time. When you start trying to cater for strange things happening in the aircraft (dropping altitude or holding) and different types of freefall (with and without wings) heavy flares in big wingsuits, and the transition from wingsuit flight to canopy flight it becomes a nightmare! The threshold system of silencing the device is a reasonable compromise but could be tweaked a bit. I've also set mine to go quiet below 800m above the DZ elevation. Maybe we could add a third threshold value so you have a min and max descent rate for tone. At the moment the threshold applies regardless of whether you are ascending or descending. If you are just turning the device on at the 2 min call during run-in the new version probably works very well.
  8. I don't think there is a way to do this in mode 0 with the original firmware. There is a threshold value that is applied in mode 2 and 3. Tones are silenced if you are below the threshold. Edit: It looks like some changes were made in Jan to split the threshold into vertical and horizontal speeds and apply them to all modes. Not sure if these changes are included in the stable or beta firmware here http://flysight.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Latest_firmware but the source is here: https://github.com/flysight/flysight To check if you have this firmware version: -take a backup of your Config file -delete the file and turn the Flysight off and back on again -a new config file will be automatically created with default values -if there is a Thresholds section in the file you have this version.
  9. That's likely more to do with the more swept back arm position and thinner profile than the larger surface area of X2 over S. Interestingly the forward arm position and thicker profile were once promoted as advantageous. I note these changes coincide with a key member of staff moving from PF to TWS but perhaps that is just a coincidence. The same changes can be seen in the various Fusion prototypes where he was heavily involved. Airlocks and pressurisation are a red herring ;-) All suits seem pretty solid these days.
  10. "better" is very subjective. The R-Bird is bigger than Phantom2, is bigger better? The Ghost 3 is bigger than the R-Bird is that better? (Note: minimum 80 WS jumps recommended for Ghost 3) Both manufacturers have a range of suits, covering a range of comfortable performance spans. For your experience, height and weight I'd recommend you get a Shadow or Phantom2z. Shadow is my suit of choice for skydiving and I'm similar height and weight. However I'm biased, I liked PF products so much I became an agent.
  11. Yes, it fits the Mindwarp quite well, it's a little too flat now if anything. Looks like you lowered the inner corners by about 3mm? I think 2mm would be enough and may work with a wider range of helmets. For the Optik Illusion, is ok across the helmet the problem is that from bottom to top the helmet is more curved. Perhaps something in between the two templates will give a better compromise.
  12. Bonehead Mindwarp (quite an old one) The bottom of the helmet at the back is quite flat, so template is too curved. There is about 2mm of clearance between the points either side of the Velcro slot and the helmet. Bonehead Optik Illusion The curves of the helmet are different in different directions and places, near the neck it's quite flat across the helmet, so it's similar to Mindwarp above, but up near the crown of the head it's fairly close to the template but still slightly flatter.
  13. If the final mounts are plastic and only 1mm thick in the middle will applying that much force to one scrap it?
  14. Nice mount! To provide an alternative to the tape, how about putting a tapped hole in each corner, say 3mm or 4mm thread so people can use a counter sunk or pan head bolt from inside the helmet? the helmet liner should be sufficient to deal with the bolt head not sitting flat. Or just put holes either side of the velcro slot in the middle. The curve inside the helmet shouldn't cause much problem there. If the mount is molded plastic and you don't want to tap the holes, perhaps leave nut shaped hole on the top surface. Perhaps it would add too much to the manufacturing cost to be worth it, the few that want it are probably the type that will happily drill/tap their own mounting holes, and I guess the yanks would want an imperial thread..... There may be people that want to mount on a flat surface, does the tape work well if the curve isn't a close match?
  15. Thanks. Yes I'm going to go with SD. But would like to hear about specific cards as they seem to vary a lot. The classification isn't done independently. I was looking at these: Sandisk C4 Transcend C10 Lots of good reviews but also a high number talking about data corruption. I don't want to loose a weeks long trip of footage through trying to save a relatively small amount of money. Also: Transcend C4 Cheapest option Kingston C4 Kingston C6 Sandisk Ultra C4 Quite a bit more than Sandisk above but both C4. Probably cheaper lesser know brands available. For comparison: Sony MS Mark2
  16. So the newer Sony CX cameras can take Sony MS or SD cards. The manual says use Class 4 cards, Sandisk Class 4 is about a third of the price of a Sony MS. A while back Sony introduced their Mark 2 cards which are designed with a minimum write speed suitable for AVCHD capable video cameras. I've heard of problems with some SD cards, and an old thread recommend using Class 6. Spot has previous said that "cheap memory cards" and HD video recording don't mix well. Looking at the specs, the CX115's highest quality is HD FX which is 24Mb/s, so Class 4 (4MB/s or 32Mb/s) should have plenty of overhead. What cards (Brand, Format & Speed Class) have you had success or problems with and which would you recommend? I've found an article on the subject but it's from 2 years ago. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/how_buy_sd_card_your_digital_camera
  17. no, crayons are only to be used on TonySuits order forms. Don't you mean photocopier? Find designs you like and copy an paste various parts, and as they say in France .."et voile!" TWS has many unique innovations, the one's I'm aware of are Webbies, Mercury wing, integrated suit (alas all three appear to have died a death) , houdini sleeves (that don't always work if you aren't houdini), wings only attached at the front that give 7:1 glide ratio, long zip pulls, removal of cutaway system, and fans that make false claims (e.g. TWS invented zipper attachment). Are there more? Edit to add: Yes it's taken FAR too long to update the suit coloring program, it's taken several months, and even if the latest delay didn't happen it's too long. PF can be very poor at this marketing game, an area that TWS usually do very well and BM did very well.
  18. The Phantom2 and Shadow can get very impressive glide ratio \ distance if flown well, but obviously will not beat a more advanced suit that is also flown well. The best distance and glide ratio are not necessarily the same thing, it depends on what the winds are doing. If your distance is being assisted by a tail wind, the longer you are in freefall the more effect this assistance will have, and the opposite if you are flying into a head wind. If you really want max GR or distance and are not interested in flocking or acrobatics, the V4 and Venom are worth a look, especially if you liked the Phantom. For max speed it's simple - V3 or V4. The Vampire and Venom are two very different animals, and will suit different styles and needs accordingly. For starting WS base, depending on the sites you are going to, you may well have more fun flying a Shadow\Phantom2 for a season or two before moving to something more advanced. The popular sites for learning WS base do not require huge distances to be covered. There are recommendations for experience level on various suits for a reason. Take them into consideration when making your choice.
  19. Shadow - accept no substitute. From what little I've seen of them the S and X wing are WAY too big for someone of your build flocking. As are the Ghost 3 and Venom.
  20. I have a Shadow, and love it. But I'm biased ;-) It's the right tool for flocking unless you are very heavy, in which case a Ghost might be a better option. I only have about 30 jumps on the suit but average flocking fall rate over entire jump is 45mph - 60mph depending on the group. (Sub 50mph were jumps with people in Vampires 3s) By "big suits" I'm not sure if you mean Vampire style or Stealth style? For sure someone skilled in those suits can out run or float you, but they need to try to do it. They can fly comfortably with you if they want. Some people will say that you have more "range" in the larger suits. Well of course you do, but what is the point if you only use one end of that range? Some people use this range as a crutch in case they go low on the formation, I wonder do these people also use a camera jacket when doing 4way? Or a super baggy suit for freefly? Don't take my word for it, borrow one and see. They have very similar performance to Phantom2, so if you can't try a Shadow try a Phantom2. Flying style is a bit different, but it'll give you an idea of the performance. For what you are looking for, the Shadow ticks all of the boxes and more.
  21. I think you can export directly to a .srt file from Paralog. Try the "jump_profile_gps.srt" template in the Subtitles folder. Think that would be your best option as you can customize the templates in Paralog pretty easily if required. GPS Babel hasn't been updated in a few months, but the .style file for Flysight is in post 54 of this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3954333;page=3;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; You can export straight to .srt from GPS Babel, but won't have much control over the format without creating your own .style file.
  22. Email or PM Klaus (Vidiot) he'll sort you out quickly.
  23. If you version of Win 7 x64 supports it, install Windows XP mode. You can pass through USB devices and use 32bit drivers.
  24. In some skydivers tests the plastic bracket broke before the adhesive gave way. I doubt duck tape is going to be an improvement.
