I was talking about the Diablo picture. your canopy obviously had an issue other than linetwists. Cheers, Travis

Even out your risers and you may have been able to kick out of it. Cheers, Travis

Skydiving is something that is super enjoyable simply for the variety of disciplines and the fact that a person will never learn everying. Never. ALwasy improving. I'd say go do another tandem. Maybe find a dropzone that is smaller and allows camping and parties and then you'll see the little things about skydiving that make it so fantastic. As a commercial pilot, you understand the risks involved with doing something like flying. The same is true for skydiving. There are calculated risks, as with anything in life. I know quite a few commercial pilots who skydive actually. I also know lawyers, professors, computer geeks, businesspeople, salespeople, drug dealers, construction workers, doctors, and many other professions. ITs a huge variety. Go check out the dropzone and see if its something for you. You said you saw threads saying that its not for everyone....as is true for anything really. Scubadiving isn't for everyone. Riding bicycles isn't for everyone. Some people hate flying on commercial jets.... Cheers, Travis

anything dangerous about a sabre?
crazydiver replied to unformed's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I disagree. Cheers, Travis -
Question about chin strap attachement of skydiving helmet.
crazydiver replied to Malta_Dog's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thats a hell of a stretch though... seems a bit overboard. Cheers, Travis -
Guarantee? Hardly. Other companies that sell risers probably guarantee their work just as much if not more than the manufacturer and serve the same purpose for much less cost. Take Velocity Sports Equipment risers...probably the least expensive risers from a container manufacturer out there and are in my opinion, the best! Cheers, Travis

I agree. On the other hand, myself and some of my friends have jumped rigs that bounced and considered it good juju and an honor to wear the rig that our friend has worn when they bounced. Cheers, Travis

Major improvements in Skydiving gear in the last thirty years.
crazydiver replied to TheDonMan's topic in Gear and Rigging
Are you kidding me? Risers? For many other folks on this thread: It seems like many folks on here are just listing off container options as you would see them on an order form. You all are the marketing professional's dream come true. Keep buying things based on advertising. Cheers, Travis -

anything dangerous about a sabre?
crazydiver replied to unformed's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Dude, chill out. The guy was making a joke. Cheers, Travis -
These were his SISTERS' friends. Not even his close friends or he would have said so. I agree with most folks on here that its going to be tremendously hollywood sensationalized, but I'm still standing in the same spot as I was before on this issue. Are you really comparing this movie to a Nascar race? If you had a couple of friends die in a car wreck, would you want to sit there and watch a movie reliving the car wreck - hearing your friends last blood curdling scream? How the heck is that like Nascar? Anyway, to answer the original question... NO. The previews made me sick. The whole thing is tasteless. Cheers, Travis

anything dangerous about a sabre?
crazydiver replied to unformed's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Many will open relatively quickly compared to more modern designs, but this can be a good thing in some folks' eyes and when used for certain purposes (wing suiting, demos, low pull emergency situations). Sabre 1 was my first canopy. No regrets. Cheers, Travis -
I'm with ya there. I had no problems on my crossfire 2 loaded at about 2.0:1. I got great surfs. And as for setting up in brakes...Aggie Dave doesn't do it. I usually don't if I can get away with it. It is harder to fly your set up point, but if you are in brakes, it takes longer to get to your speed in your dive that you could have goteen to quicker if you hadn't slown down your canopy. Cheers, Travis

Ya, I wasn't on the schedule to work today and I was going to go fun jump, but I've got the same feeling simply for the wind reason. Cheers, Travis
-
I'd call wind weather. Cheers, Travis

Who'd a thunk it? Cheers, Travis

How does that affect your watching the movie? I have had multiple friends die in car crashes. All redneck jokes aside, should I stop watching nascar for this reason? I could understand if it was your friends in the plane, but they were your sisters. Cheers, Travis

Opening riser covers for hop-n-pops
crazydiver replied to LearningTOfly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't think there is anything wrong with jumping your gear as normal. However...think about it for a minute. If by opening your riser covers you are slowing wear on your rig, at the same time creating no extra danger...why not do it? THat IS being responsible for your own gear. Preventative maintenence is part of it. I"m not saying its a huge wear problem for a few hop and pops, but it is a factor to doing it. Cheers, Travis -
Think about how much earlier you could leave if you weren't posting on DZ.com and doing some work. Cheers, Travis

Me!! WHo got weathered out today? I was going to work on my swoops a little for next weekends CPC number 1 in Colorado, but its cloudy, windy, and supposed to rain. So I'm relaxing at home. *Edited to add, who got WEATHERED out today? Obviously everybody lame enough to be on here (myself included) is not jumping. Cheers, Travis

Even better than stabbing the breaks....and its a very simple procedure regardless...is to hold your canopy in deep breaks until it goes into steady slow flight then bring your hands back up to full flight and instantly dive using your front risers. This deep breaks configuration take the load factor off of hte canopy some and makes it easier to pull on risers. Also really lean into the turn whichever way you go. THis will help. And I'm talking REALLY lean. As hard as you can in the direction you are going. Cheers, Travis

Opening riser covers for hop-n-pops
crazydiver replied to LearningTOfly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think the biggest reason for doing this is to simply decrease wear and tear on your rig. the weight of your body should be able to open the stiffeners and if it can't, you might consider getting another container. But I think mostly opening them simply prolongs the life of the riser covers. Cheers, Travis -
I hope the actual video is edited better than the trailer. Great flying, but the editing on the trailer made it hard to appreciate. Cheers, Travis

Another issue to consider is that if your chest strap has a folded over piece on the end and it is stowed by an elastic band...if the slider does stay in place and you have a cutaway, theres a good chance that you will hang from your canopy. I just tried my chest strap. the folded over end will not come out of the elastic when very heavy weight is put on it. Cheers, Travis
