  1. No I definitely think it's possible they were scammed. The problem is that many banks in chile don't have the ability to link to PayPal which is more secure in situations like this. Cheers, Travis
  2. I have friends at Paracaidismo Chile dropzone in Chile and they recently transferred money to someone named Leo or Ray (or maybe Larry) Barnes in Texas. They bought a student rig from him. As soon as they did the transfer, they said they stopped hearing from him, which was a couple weeks back. Anyone have any info on this person in Texas? We tried calling, but never answered and doesn't have voicemail set up. The transfer was sent to his account at Wells Fargo in Richmond, TX. Anyone from around that area? Thanks for any help you can provide. Hope my buddies aren't getting scammed. Cheers, Travis
  3. I moved to Chile a year and a half ago and brought my rig with me. As I've traveled around Chile I haven't brought my rig to the various places that have had drop zones simply because it was cumbersome and I was concerned with it getting stolen, to be perfectly honest. Especially if you are visiting countries where theft is common and you are taking your bag and putting it in the luggage compartment under the bus, etc. You could certainly bring it along, but careful. Many countries, theft is bad even with a crappy camera or your wallet. Cheers, Travis
  4. I've seen this a handful of times for that reason exactly. Cheers, Travis
  5. My wife and I are moving to Chile in one month and need to secure private health insurance (at least in the short term) for when we arrive. We'll be there for at least 12 months. I'll be doing some tandems and AFF each week at a local dropzone for income so we will need long term insurance that will cover professional skydiving. I've looked at IHI Bupa (kinda pricey), HTH Global Citizen (seems good), and Cigna. IHI Bupa definitely covers professional skydiving if you buy one of the pricier plans. Not sure on the other two I listed. Anyone have experience seeking a private plan for being abroad and specifically anyone who needed coverage for professional skydiving activities? I don't want "travel insurance" as I want the coverage to be considered "creditable coverage" for when we return to the US (although I realize some of the obamacare stuff may make that unnecessary starting Jan 1). I want long term medical insurance. Thanks for any help! Cheers, Travis
  6. Whoops, just saw his d license number in the first post. Cheers, Travis
  7. Very sad to have heard about this today. Really likes that guy and always made a point to connect with him whenever he was at the dz. does anyone know what is uspa license number would have been? He had been jumping since the dawn of time! Cheers, Travis
  8. I just got an email from the same person. Cheers, Travis
  9. Well, nothing in the mail today again and nothing on my doorstep. Nor has he replied to my emails. Here is the official Chris Schuster dz.com thread for me to attempt to recover my 1200 bucks. Tell all your friends in upstate NY and Lexington, KY/Start Skydiving area. I'll be calling DZs this week. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4455444;#4455444 Cheers, Travis
  10. Just feels odd to me since he is all over social media sites, etc. I can find his linked in page, Facebook, and a couple youtube videos of him. That's why I was reluctant to thinking I was getting scammed. But feels shady. Cheers, Travis
  11. I'm tryin to decide when is appropriate. I am giving him until the end of tomorrow and then its blast city. Cheers, Travis
  12. So, I pay a guy 1200 bucks for a container here on DZ.com classifieds last tuesday February 26. He says he will ship it out Thursday when he's back in town. I email him Sunday, March 3 asking for the tracking number and he says he sent the package but his girlfriend has the tracking number/invoice. That's the last I've heard from him after multiple emails and I have not received the package. He said he would ship it Thursday or Friday, February 28/29. Today is March 10 and I still have no email contact from him with tracking info nor do I have a container on my doorstep. How long before I go crazy and start blasting him on facebook and calling DZs around where his LinkedIn and Facebook pages say he lives or has lived in the last couple years? I've seen a couple videos from him with a simple google search, so he's a legitimate person. Am I crazy to be pissed? Cheers, Travis
  13. Precision was sure busy making Xaos's during that seven month span. Four affected serial numbers. :) Cheers, Travis
  14. Well the package wouldn't get there until next week... Cheers, Travis
  15. That's probably the most current. I just don't want to send a package to the wrong place, so wanted to get confirmation on where, for sure, is the location. Cheers, Travis
  16. Hey All, VSE is closed today and I need to ship something to them as soon as possible. They only have a PO box listed on their website, but I am planning on FedExing it and you can't do that to a PO box. Anyone have their most current street address? I've found two or three on various websites and DZ.com threads. Thanks for the help. Cheers, Travis
  17. One thing to add is that everyone struggles with packing in the beginning anyway. I can pack a main in about 4 minutes. When I first learned to pack it took me 20+ minutes and I was drenched in sweat. I'm always up for better alternatives, but part of me wonders if the struggles in more in that it just takes some practice. I would love to eliminate wasted rubber though which is why I like the "idea" of the lazybag, but I haven't even owned one myself since I can stow the bands so quick. My two cents. I would also take advice from John Sherman and others who may post here like Bill Booth, etc. Cheers, Travis
  18. Why? Stronger main and reserve pin protection. Reserves on wings are a little trickier to pack and get to look nice. And, more importantly, to me, is the weak spring that the wings has on its reserve PC compared to vector and mirage. I've seen video of the spring on a wings PC do a 180 upon pulling the pin and hesitate on their back for a touch. Could happen on any rig, but that weak spring bothers me. But...if you're in this sport to save money...you're in the wrong place. Cheers, Travis
  19. Great, I'm sure you know better than me. I only have 5500+ jumps without tinted anything, and humans only existed for 1000's of years before the invention of sungalsses, but I'm sure you have it all figured out. The OP states that the LAST thing he wants is to not be able to see his face. What did I miss? And don't be a dick to the guy. He wants tinted. Matter's of taste are not to be disputed. Cheers, Travis
  20. BSBD...crazy ass pilot. Hope he's in a good place. Cheers, Travis
  21. Just found out about Jim yesterday at the DZ. Sorry to hear this. Jim was awesome. Riddler, I remember the 80th birthday jump! I was on that. It was supposed to be an 8 point 8 way for his 80th and we had to put weight on him because he was always so light and frail we couldn't stay with him. Really great person who will be missed. Cheers, Travis
  22. Not a religious person myself, but was wondering if anyone had any historical context to this video/incident. Does anyone know this guy or about the accident? I intentionally didn't put this in the speaker's corner so it wouldn't turn into a religious debate. I am just curious about the incident's factuality and details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRSjzY0s0SM&feature=share Cheers, Travis
  23. I voted to keep the same. Partially for the same reasons that I support a three years in the sport rule for the tandem rating. I wish that were a requirement for AFF. It's always boggled me that someone could get an AFF rating with less than 500 jumps and less than three years in the sport and teach brand new skydivers the ins and outs of surviving. This combined with the fact that its never been easier to get an AFF rating than it is right now. AFF courses used to have a high failure rate. I rarely see someone repeat a course or the jumps in the courses I've seen in the last few years. Cheers, Travis
