  1. The rigs I have seen with this mod are mostly vector II's. The final reserve flap on a javelin is basically the same. The only difference is that a Vector II doesn't have the exposed pop top. The flap is only sewn on one side(the bottom side), so it lets the reserve container open up nice and freely. It doesn't obstruct the way the pilot chute would come out. And I am not trying to argue...I am just still curious...if pretty much any rigger can get permission from mike furry to close the dolphin like a javelin, why isn't it just allowed? Cheers, Travis
  2. Ya, I was wondering why they closed the reserve like that and if they could close it like a jav. I too thought that you could put that mod on there if you were a master rigger. I have also seen it done. Many of them on old vector II's. Why do you have to get a letter from Mike Furry to close it like a javelin? Is there special precautions or something you have to take that are different from a javelin or a dolphin? Cheers, Travis
  3. I have a dolphin that I use for CReW. Works fine for now. I was wondering if it violated the TSO to put a little flap on the bottom reserve flap to kind of cover the bottom edge of the pop top. I want this so that when I come down someone's lines to plane up, I dont run the risk of their canopy or lines behind me being able to snag on the pop top. See what I am saying? It would only have to bee like two inches tall and three or four inches wide and just sewn to the container on the bottom edge of the flap. Is this legal for a rigger to do? I know it is if the pilot chute is under all the flaps, but if the pop top is exposed...any thoughts. Thanks. Travis Cheers, Travis
  4. I have never seen the standard rings on mini risers, but I also don't see why it wouldn't work. Its sort of pointless, but it should work. In all reality, from this forum...it would be most viable to just use the mini rings and mini risers on a large harness ring. Cheers, Travis
  5. Tandem instructors only please. Why would a tandem instructor do a 180 degree toggle turn because of the "tradewinds?" They should be holding into the wind and if they were to make a low turn, that would require them to do a 360 degree turn to get back into the wind. Cheers, Travis
  6. A person can use standard three rings (not mini) on mini risers...the risers don't necessarily have to be wider. You should be able to lower your slider onto mini risers. It may be that you have link covers that are too thick. Perhaps they are silicon...sometimes those are tough to get the slider grommets over. Depending on the size of the links...mini or standard...you can even get a slider down onto standeard risers a lot of times. Cheers, Travis
  7. Just a little note, how many pro swoopers do you know jumping sub 100 sq. ft. canopies loaded well over 2 lbs per square foot that use large harness rings and large rings on the risers? I don't know any. Hard housings in the excess cutaway cable track are more of your concern. These hard housings prevent a heavy twist in the lower part of the riser from binding the cutaway cable to the riser. Just letting you know. Cheers, Travis
  8. Type 8 and type 17 risers can both take either type of rings as far as I know. As far as having mini rings on type 8 risers...I have seen this many times. I have mini rings on my type 8 risers that I have on my Lightning for CRW. But for the basic question of this thread, mini rings are ok to jump with a large harness ring. I do on one of my rigs. Cheers, Travis
  9. No way man...I just bought the thing and I'm having FUN!!! Lots of used jedei's out there. Seem to be a very cultlike culture. Cheers, Travis
  10. Did the swept wing have the straight leading edge or the tapered leading edge? Cheers, Travis
  11. What do you mean sweptwings really look the part? Not sure what that means. Cheers, Travis
  12. I have a Jedei 120 made in June of 1996. The serial number is 722. I was just wanting some basic info and history of the specific canopy I have. I believe its the original, not the sweptwing. I also think it was computer cut because of the date of manufacture. Just kind of curious what I am flying. Thanks guys. Cheers, Travis
  13. I would agree that you almost drop a canopy size when you get this high in elevation from sea level, but I don't think that the heat would drop you another size. Perhaps the combination of the two factors would drop you about one canopy size. After jumping in arizona, I wouldn't say that it feels like dropping two canopy sizes when coming back to Colorado. Just my thoughts........THe reason I say this is because I know someone here in Colorado that jumps a 60 square foot icarus on a regular basis here. If that was the case that he was dropping two canopy sizes, he would essentially be jumping the "smallest canopy ever jumped" on a hot day here. Luigi canni jumped a 46 square foot a few times...not on a regular basis. Cheers, Travis
  14. I definetly understand what you are saying about "magic numbers" not being an accurate representation of canopy skill level, or freefall for that matter. If numbers were the case, I wouldn't have been jumping a 135 with 100 jumps. It's all on previous experience and skill level. This applies anywhere. The reason for not allowing students to do night jumps is not just because they have low jump numbers...it's because they don't have enough experience to know how to handle something in such a different situation. I feel that I will do well under the jedei. I have jumped a jedei 136 a few times before and enjoyed it. I realize all jedei's are somewhat different, but anyway. I was just curious what the "official numbers" were. In the samurai manual it states that jumping the sam with less than 300 jumps is strictly prohibited and that person should try the lotus. Anyway. Thanks for the input. Warm Blue Ones, Travis Cheers, Travis
  15. I was wondering what the minimum jump requirements for a Jedei are. I know it is three hundred jumps min. for the Samurai. Similar for the jedei? I have three hundred jumps and have been jumping a sabre 135 and a saffire 129 for 200 jumps. I am considering purchasing a Jedei 120 loaded at 1.3:1. Cheers, Travis
  16. I was wondering the same thing. I would espect taslan to be thicker than cotten, but I saw someone's kurupee suit..it was kind of old so I am not sure if this still applies...and it was pretty thin stuff. Who knows. I would like to know though also. Anyone with experience. Help Cheers, Travis
  17. yes. the housing goes through the cheststrap. Cheers, Travis
  18. I have a Javelin NJ made in 1996. It is fully articulated. Between the top of the soft reserve handle and the cable housing, about an inch and a half of cable is exposed. I am going to have my rigger tack the housing to the chest strap by the chest ring, but it still leaves the cable exposed. Is this much of a risk of catching the cable and pulling the reserve? I see it all the time on other rigs, but it still seems like a person should be extra careful on climbouts and on grips near my reserve rip cord. Any thoughts? Cheers, Travis
  19. it said it was my order number. Surely they would'nt have a shipping number for me instantly. I have written him two emails. haven't gotten a response back yet. And for some reason the phone number on the website makes goofy noises when I call it Cheers, Travis
  20. Kurupee suits have a real cool website. Easy to navigate and use. I ordered my suit from their website and when I punch in my order number to see its status, it says it doesn't exist. Has anyone else had this problem? Can't get ahold of them by phone. Cheers, Travis
  21. I just ordered my Kurupee Suit. Does anyone know what the turnaround time on them are? It didn't say anywhere on their website. Cheers, Travis
  22. What were the size options on original swift reserves? or were they all the same? I am pretty sure one option was 189 sq ft. Was there a 177? Cheers, Travis
  23. I have a Vector III with a an original swift reserve in it. Swifts were saving people when they were new. Do I really have anything to worry about? Any information you have is helpful. Cheers, Travis
