  1. Ahmed...You are always missed and thought of often. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  2. We lost a friend yesterday. Mike was a good person and a passionate skydiver who passed on while doing what he loved. My condolences to his family and friends. Mike...You are loved and you will be missed.
  3. You are truely loved and missed by all that knew you... If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  4. I agree with Andy and will put a finer point on it. By far, the place/time/situation in which you are most likely to be injured (or worse) is while under canopy. I find that jumpers that have gone through IAD/static line progression are generally safer, more competent pilots. They have also spent more time at the DZ and have more general knowledge about the sport. Although AFF works for some, that doesn't mean that other methods don't some advantages. 5. A bench tech is what I'm looking for, I guess. I need help with finding a DC socket for a Icom IC-A5, but It may be a factory fix. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  6. This may not be the right forum, but are there any Avionics Repair guys out there that might be able to help me with an Icom IC-A5 issue? If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  7. I don't know where you jump, but I've never jumped anywhere that NOBODY has time to answer that type of question. Try asking after jumping has ended and the fire has been lit. Pick someone that you respect and bring her/him a beverage. Ask, respectfully, if they have time to explain it to you. AFF farm or not, everyone there was once at the point that you are now. They need to hustle during the day to pay the bills, but most will talk to you all night if you ask...nicely. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  8. As your grade 3 teacher once told you..."The only stupid question is the one you don't ask..." Welcome back to the sport... If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  9. Yes...It's a Wings. I am a rigger also and know exactly what you mean by "massage"... I agree. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  10. Thanks for the help everyone. I got it turned off after all. It turned out to be just a sensitive pad and sloppy technique. I called SSK and they said the unit would function properly and they would replace the LCD unit for free with a 5 day turn-around...Excellent customer service... 11. I agree with returning it, but I was hoping someone had seen this before. The LED worked fine when I turned it on. Now I'm just waiting to see if it turns off on it's own as it should. I'm going to contact SSK tomorrow, to see what they know. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  12. A customer dropped of a rig to me with a Cypres 1 (DOM 04/03...serviced in 07) . I turned it on to test it after packing and now it won't shut off. It turned on properly, but has some "bleeding" around the LCD display. When I tried to turn it off nothing happened...No LED...no change in the display. I've done a few searches in the forums with no luck. Any help out there? If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  13. Tonight was Ahmed's memorial BBQ at the dz. It was another example of the love and respect felt for him by all that knew him. So many faces....Many familiar, So many more that weren't. One would have difficulty walking through the common area...I had to walk around. The hardest part for me was the slide show. That smile of his was ever-present. When the picture of him jumping with my father came up I laughed and cried. The best part was the incredible people that showed up to remember him. One of the highlights was T.K. up from Florida...perhaps the best example of the respect due him. This gathering was a bit lighter...more happy memories than feelings of loss. There was much imbibing... Ironic, considering that he mostly abstained!!! We all have one thing in common. We all miss you Ahmed. I will try not to feel sorry for myself because you are gone... 14. Reposted fromRe: [GaryBrown] Our friend, Ahmed Kotb BASED ON THE WEATHER FORECAST WE ARE MOVING THE BBQ TO SATURDAY MAY 10TH... I AM SORRY FOR THIS - BUT WE FEEL OUR ALTERNATIVE LOCATION IS TOO SMALL. AS WELL IT WILL GIVE PEOPLE MORE TIME TO GET EVERYTHING TOGETHER. PLEASE LET EVERYONE KNOW ~Jeff If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  15. Well, the Memorial for Ahmed is over. It truly showed how deeply he touched those who knew him. The chapel was filled far past capacity and overflowed into all the adjoining rooms. Ahmed often kept the parts of his life separate, but tonight all those parts came together to share their memories with his family. Along with a large contingent of skydivers were co-workers and many members of his Aikido dojo. His cousin and brother listened to many different happy memories of those whose lives were touched by him, but they all told the same story...Strength, honour, dedication, honesty, integrity , smiles, mischief, and a HUGE heart. So many tears, but many happy thoughts and memories too. The night even seemed to heal some old wounds that, in retrospect, lack the teeth to stand against what Ahmed stood for...I hope it lasts. Learn from Ahmed...not just from his passing, but also his life. He packed more living into his 35 years than most will in twice the time...he never stopped living, he never wasted time. He wanted to experience it all, but never at the expense of others. He lived and loved and cared without ever showing hate or anger. Goodbye Ninja... 16. I think you forgot to take "Dark Matter" into account in your calculations...I tried your numbers and ended up in an alternate reality by going head-down into a black hole that was created by orbiting at light speed around a 600 pound tandem student rubbing a balloon on his head and trying to stick it to a non-existent wall...no, I didn't fail my last drug test.... 42 is the answer...anyone remember the question? Don't ask the mice...they are taking advice from a bad Monty Python skit.... If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  17. I may not be the rigging god that you are hoping for, but I will do my best. If you have no slack at "full-flight", your steering lines need to be adjusted or replaced. Which one will depend on the condition of the lines. I'm guessing that they are made of spectra. If so, they have a tendency to shrink when friction/heat is applied. This will generally apply to all of your outside lines, as they are the ones that make the most forceful contact with the slider grommets, and therefore produce the most friction/heat. These are the lines that are most likely to go out-of-trim first. Measure them against the man-specs along with the rest of your lines...on second thought, let you rigger do that. I was taught a neat trick by Brian Germain once...Spectra lines can be stretched back into trim by hand, if they are in otherwise good condition. 18. I sit here staring at my keyboard, still hoping that this is just one of those terrifying dreams that you have trouble waking up from.... There were many of us there with you Ahmed...most of us crying and praying at the same time. We wouldn't leave. One thought was universal...Not you...It couldn't be. The safest, most focused and responsible person on the DZ. The healthiest...the most current...the one that most of us wished we could emulate... Rachel was with you to the end, and Gary wasn't far behind. Jeff led the rest of us in trying to keep our little piece of the world from crumbling...you would have been proud. The emergency crews worked so hard...they wouldn't give up either...so many others were holding you...talking to you...asking you to hang on... The final news from the hospital felt like what little justice was left in the world was gone. If it could happen to you, what hope was there for anybody? I wish there were a way to bring you back. The world needs more people like you...not less. We miss you already...Blue Skies Ninja...
  19. I'm curious..was the battery in the unit when you "cut" the cutter? If so, it might have been a short created when the cutter closed the loop of the circuit. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  20. Makes me proud to be Canadian...more proud, actually... If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  21. Please tip me.... for the love of beer, tip me please!!! If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  22. Sucker!!!! You will now!!! I was pied near 500 for my 100th...For years I refused to pie anyone. Everyone asked me "why?". I told them that "I wasn't allowed to..."They asked "Why not?"...I said "it's against the rules...they asked "why?"...I said "I can't tell you why..." they asked "why not?"...I said "it's against the rules..." Finally someone figured it out and I got it BAD!!! If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  23. Perhapse I should have I should have made my point more clearly. First..I find that "advising" someone in a negative and antagonistic manner is not often productive. Next...What I meant by my comment about the "plane-out" characteristics of the canopy is that, aside from all the risks shared by most canopies, this trait, specific to the stiletto, can lure someone into an incident, such as what happened to your friend. Finally...I'm sorry about your friend. I have a friend who had the same type of injury, and it sucks. If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
  24. I'm not replying to anyone specifically...Sorry for riding on your coat tail Doug. Just one question...Would any of you actually say what you are saying to each other if you were looking the person in the eye? The canopy is nice...I liked my 135. The only real danger is the plane-out...It tempts pilots to start low to hit the sweet-spot. Let us end this thread by actually answering the question...No...there have been no functional changes to the Stiletto. Don't we have enough to worry about without taking shots at each other for fun? If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.
