  1. Ok. Back it up. Exceptions? Gay marriage and flag burning were close to becoming constitutional amendments! That needs a lot of people thinking with something other than their heads. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  2. Get a kill-line. For your typical skydiving sport canopies at typical skydiving wingloadings (.8 and up), it will make a difference. It might not be that much, but there's a difference. Plus I would think that it's best to get the cocking habit ingrained ASAP? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  3. Hmm, drinking food! On the way back from the pub club its got to be the large doner or chicken kebab, liberally doused in chilli and garlic sauce ( always the large, 'cos it'll be breakfast the next day too). At home it'll be the cheese toastie or bacon and fried egg sandwich. Basically - the most unhealthy food I can find Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  4. It sounds more dramatic. What if you made a point on conservative policy and I replied with "And how does that fit the premise that conservatives are inbred redneck morons?" I've shown that there are libs who act with logic and cons who act with emotion. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  5. How should I know, I've never met her. I can infer by the information presented that she's a bit gullible but beyond that I have no idea what particular stances she takes on political issues. Now back to the logic thing - yes, I've been choosing extreme examples but they are examples that I have actually heard and read. As I said - I wouldn't accuse conservatives (especially moderates) of being particularly more or less able to think logically than liberals (especially moderates). You have made an accusation of that type and I've picked examples to refute your view. Just think of the many types of legislation pushed by conservatives that pander to fire and brimstone preachers and 'our country, right or wrong' patriots. It's not logic that that pushes those types, its emotion. You can say the same about anti gun zealots with armed bodyguards or whatever on the lib side. So far though, you haven't attempted to justify your accusation so I'll now consider the matter settled. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  6. Then you have never read a thread on this forum about gay marriage. The number two opposition (behind biblical reasons) for non-legalisation of gay marriage is the idea that it will make the respondant feel differently about the worth of his own marriage. Nope again, as the rhetoric goes the legalisation of pot for medicinal use will of course lead to a push for full legalisation, then your child will be lead on from marijuana to heroin! Whats that, we use a stronger version of heroin in hospitals already? Alcohol is more dangerous than pot anyway? Damn liberal lies! Now think about it - which side is outraged (Outraged!!) by the moral decline of todays scientific society? Which side wants to teach ID instead of evolution because "I don't want to be a monkey," which side is funded by excitable televangelists, which side opposes embryonic stem cell research because "the little clusters might have a soul already," which side is tearing down constitutional rights to privacy because "the terrorists are coming and you'd better be damn scared!" I don't think all conservatives are hysterical nervous wrecks, and I don't think they are fundamentally illogical, but your premise that they are fundamentally more logical than liberals is obviously absurd. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  7. In these areas in particular (although debatable in the Iraq example) I would say that the leftist arguments are far more rational than the rightist ones. In other cases it may well be that lefties are more emotional. Being on the inside looking out it is more difficult for me to pick up on those Still, it seems to me enough to put the lie to your premise. Edit: Give me a logical reason not to allow gay marriage. Give me a logical reason not to let someone burn a piece of their own property. Give me a logical reason not to allow potentially useful drug to be tested that is far less potent than those we already use. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

And, surprisingly, the emotional impact (for Vesper). Really the first true emotion shown since George Lazenby at the end of OHMSS. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  9. Lib: Is there any logical reason why these two guys shouldn't marry? Con: These two guys can't marry! I'd never be able to look at my wife in the same way again! Lib: I don't see why flag burning should be criminal - for many people it is the best way to demonstrate dis-satisfaction with the direction the country is moving, and the belief that curent policy is getting ever more distant from the ideals of the constitution. Con: America hater! America hater! Agree with every policy we make or move to Canada! Lib: I don't think there was sufficient evidence to go into Iraq under the reasons that we did, and I think we had a poorly thought through strategy for the post invasion restructuring. This in turn has diverted essential materials and manpower from Afghanistan, where we had been seeing notable successes and mobilised a large part of the Arab world against us. Con: Hey man, Iraq is doing great. Are you questioning the dedication of our troops in turning Iraq back into Eden? Man I hate you spineless bastards who don't support our troops! Lib: Couldn't we at least have medical trials into the effectiveness of marijuana as a pain and symptom reliever for diseases such as Aids, Parkinsons, Rheumatism etc? The anecdotal evidence for such benefits should surely be properly investigated - after all we already use medical versions of far more potent illegal drugs in hospitals everyday. Con: Are you kidding me, marijuana is evil and the curse of todays youth. Do you want your child turning into a raving violent thug? Now pass me another beer. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Totally agreed - each one became less convincing up until Die Another Day which IMO is just an embarrasment. They have turned it around with this film though. It certainly helps that they were working from some original source material again and the tension (in the casino for instance) was being created in very different ways than just "look how big that last lazer beam explosion shit was!" Its kind of like how Batman Begins got rid of the horrifically over the top campness of the George Clooney days. And it's better than Batman Begins Do you want to have an ideagasm?

  12. I was already on this site, Google's another two mouseclicks away! Besides, I wasn't really bothered enough to go searching Do you want to have an ideagasm?

  14. Yes. Everyone has. Buy Soul Flyers and Soul Flyers 2 if you want to see more. Available in all good gear stores.
  15. If you've actually read this thread and you think its evolution thats buckling under the pressure of truth then there really is no hope for you. Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Yep, absolutely right. I'd always thought that Tim Dalton was the screen Bond that was closest to Flemings character, but it didn't quite come off on the big screen. This time it's worked. Agree about the violence too - gritty, messy and personal. No more identikit security guards falling over railings Do you want to have an ideagasm?

No skydiving, but the high rise chase after Sebastian Foucault (google 'Le Parkour') is pretty spectacular with a fair amount of building to building jumps and stuff

Fucking rocks! Barely any of the over the top gadgetry and evil space lazers that helped make Die Another Day such an embarrasment and more of the real spy story tension that made From Russia With Love such a classic. And after all the talk about Daniel Craig - that guy was good! From the start of the film it was obvious that he was a good lead but I wasn't quite convinced if he was Bond or not, by the end of the film he'd made it his own. Oh yeah, the end of the film - at 2.5 hrs it's in danger of just beginning to drag a little but damn does the last 30 seconds leave you wanting more So who else is going to see it? Do you want to have an ideagasm?

  20. Flipping through a site that was linked in another thread, I found something relevant to this discussion too. Idrewthis Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  21. To do what on land? Some dolphins and killer whales use their bulk to create waves that push fish and small seals up onto beaches where they can be easily picked off. Its a risky tactic but it works far more often than they get beached. What architect? What intention? You're letting your religious prejudices get in the way of understanding what evolutionary theory actually is. A couple of phrases come to mind about 'casting pearls' and 'none so blind' - d'ya know how those go? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  22. Oh for Fu... You can!!! (And have been told so before) Obviously the reason you aren't impressed by Billvon's posts is because you haven't bothered to read them. Flying squirrels, mudskippers, flightless birds, hippopotamii - all in transition from one stage to the next. And these are just the obvious ones. If you're thinking one day you should be able to see a flying squirrel give birth to offspring that are birds then you are still a long way from understanding the basics of the theory. Do you want to have an ideagasm?
  23. I don't know about anyone else, but for me the last few pages of posts from Billvon are exactly what make this forum worth reading. The patience to address all opposing points with elegant answers that are clear, concise, brilliantly illustrated and obviously backed up with a strong body of knowledge. Me, I'm just an antagonistic bastard - Billvon is a class act and we are lucky to have him
  24. You know what I've just been thinking about? That creationists and IDists are believers in the absolute mother of all conspiracy theories. All these objections they keep raising "How come there are still Gorilla's if we descended from apes?" or "How did hedgehogs 'decide' to grow spines?" or "Why is the fossil record incomplete?" Do they really think they are the first people to ask these questions? Do they honestly believe they could present them to a Biology Professor and he'd reply "Well fuck me, I'd never thought of that!" Of course they don't. The reason they believe these are still valid, unexamined issues is because every single evolutionary biologist in the world is a god hating atheist! Thats right - not only are they all atheists but they are commited enough to the cause to spend their entire lives fabricating evidence for the purposes of brainwashing our young christians! But where does the money come from? Research is expensive, so we need to expand our conspiracy once more. All the government funding, all the research grants, all the university investment, all the private trust funds, all the Nobel prizes must be authorised by godless communist atheists intent on undermining societies morals. Wow. Knocks "The government organised 9/11" off the top of the tree doesn't it? Do you want to have an ideagasm?
