There are in essence 3 polls. The 2 main ones are the coaches poll and the AP poll. The third of course is the BCS poll. The whole "reasoning" behind the BCS poll is so in case the AP and coaches poll were mixed on the top two, there would be no split national championship. The AP and the BCS are human polls...meaning actual people vote on it. The BCS is purely computer generated. The reason USC slid from #1 in the polls to #3 in the BCS is several reasons. The big one in this case that caused them to slide was strength of schedule and opponents's strength of schedule. USC was very close to getting in.
