  1. Hi folks, Looks like the GOP has quite a way to go: Jeffries leads Jordan; reminds me of the Keystone Kops. Jerry Baumchen
  2. Hi Bill, For some people, the history of the world began when they were born. Jerry Baumchen
  3. Hi Bill, I have read quite a number of books about the European Theater of Operations [ ETO ]. I have always been impressed how some people are the perfect person for that moment in time. My personal favorite is Winston Churchill. Jerry Baumchen PS) For some really good books [ a trilogy ] of the battles against the Third Reich, I recommend books by Rick Atkinson. Rick Atkinson - Wikipedia Publication of The Liberation Trilogy began in 2002 with An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942–1943, acclaimed by The Wall Street Journal as "the best World War II battle narrative since Cornelius Ryan's classics, The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far." While with the 101st Airborne Division south of Baghdad in April 2003, Atkinson learned that the book had been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for history. The trilogy's second volume, The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943–1944, published in 2007, drew praise from The New York Times as "a triumph of narrative history, elegantly written...and rooted in the sight and sounds of battle." Volume three, The Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944–1945, was published by Henry Holt and Co. in May 2013, and was ranked #1 on the New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction
  4. Hi Bill, I have read that during the 30's, some of Hitler's generals visited the US. They were able to see a number of manufacturing facilities. Upon reporting to Hitler, they advised him to never go to war with the US due to this capability. He told them that he did not believe them as no country could produce what they were telling him. Guess what happened? Jerry Baumchen PS) Sort of reminds me of someone else who said that he was smarter than the generals. Now, who could that be?
  5. Hi Sky, Don't you mean continuing? And, the GOP thinks this is leadership. OMFG. Jerry Baumchen
  6. Hi Peter, And Bill once told me that he would NEVER give up his C23(b) certification. I would not either. Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi Bill, Good for her. That is what I really like about this country: You can follow your dreams. Jerry Baumchen
  8. Hi Sky, Terry Baker, Oregon State College [ at that time ], was a Heisman Trophy winner & Sports Illustrated's Athlete of the Year, did not do so good in the pros. One of his coaches, while with the Rams, said that he should go to law school in his off-time [ he had a degree in Mech Engr ]. He did, and went on to a very successful law career here in Portland. Terry Baker - Wikipedia Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hi folks, The insanity continues: One man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in downtown Portland . . . at Southwest 10th Avenue and Alder Street, an intersection in the heart of downtown 1 dead, 1 wounded in downtown Portland shooting - oregonlive.com It's early days, but it appears to be a road rage incident. One dead & the shooter fucks up his life forever. What a waste. Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi Joe, Like minds think alike. Jerry Baumchen PS) What the hell do you mean 'must have?' Facts is facts.
  11. Hi Ken, It was a couple of lifetimes ago that I took a class called Statistics for Engineers. The thing that has always stayed with me from that class is to consider Possibility & Probability. Yes, it is possible that Jordan could eventually get the job. But now, we come to the probability of that happening. Not a snowball's chance in Hell. Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hi Bill, And, all of that money does not make you smarter: Rodgers also suggested that he and Kelce each add a partner for the debate. Rodgers said he would pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – an independent presidential candidate and noted vaccine skeptic - for himself and suggested Kelce add Dr. Anthony Fauci. Aaron Rodgers challenges Travis Kelce to a Covid vaccine debate - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi folks, Disclaimer: I am an NFL fan; not a fanatic. I simply like to watch the game. I have always felt that aspiring to be professional athlete, while a great idea, has an extreme probability of failure. That is why I think our glorification of college athletes is misplaced; and, that so many of them fail to graduate or get an education that has much value. And, I accept that there are exceptions; this being one of them: Terry Dischinger, former Trail Blazers forward and local orthodontist, dies at 82 - oregonlive.com Interestingly, I had never heard of this guy. Thoughts??????? Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Bill, As I continue to say: They eat their own. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi Phil, Nor those big-ass vehicles that he seems to so love. Jerry Baumchen
  16. Hi Phil, Also here: IRS places lien on Rudy Giuliani's $4.5M Palm Beach penthouse saying he failed to pay more than a half a million dollars in property taxes (msn.com) Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Joe, Agree 100%. What needs to change is the true desire to keep the illegals out. We do not have that now. Also, IMO if we really want secure borders, then we need to staff, equip & fund the Border Patrol to the level of what they need to do the job. We are not doing that now. Hey, who doesn't like cheap labor? Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi Phil, Back in the early 2000's, I worked as a consultant for this company: SAE Towers - FROM DESIGN TO EXECUTION, MUCH MORE THAN ENERGY, TRANSMITTING LIFE. I worked for the plant in Monterrey, MX. I have made many trips to that facility. Also, in the 70's, I was at their original plant in northern Italy; now closed. I've also been to their facilities in Brazil a number of times. A German engineer*, who I have known/worked with since the early 80's, worked for them as a designer/salesman. He once told me that no mfg plant in Mexico can be successful unless the management was American, Canadian or European. I now agree with him. The more automated a plant in Mexico is, the greater chance of it being a successful facility. In my experience, most Mexican workers are so afraid of losing their jobs that they keep their heads down & do just what they have been told to do; absolutely nothing more. I found virtually no incentive in any them. Jerry Baumchen * He was born in Berlin in 1944, trained there & immigrated to the US in the late 60's. He is now a US citizen & resides in Houston.
  19. Hi Robert, That's right up there with Who's On First. Other than MAGA [ which Trump stole ], he has not known where he is going since his dad died. Next he will blame Cohen for this dismissal. You really have to wonder what goes thru Trump's attorney's minds as they deal with him. Jerry Baumchen PS) From your link: The former president was scheduled to be deposed by Cohen's attorneys Tuesday, but it was postponed so that Trump could attend the opening days of the trial in the New York fraud case So many court cases, so little time.
  20. Hi Bill, An update on what some think of John Kelly: He’s an idiot for selling his soul for so long to a man who he knew was lying, a man who he knew who was disrespectful to military families, to Gold Star families, to widows, to members of Congress — anything that had to do with the military Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson calls out John Kelly: ‘He knew Mr. Trump's record’ - POLITICO Jerry Baumchen
  21. Hi folks, Add one more Idiot for Trump with money woes: Lawyers bail on MyPillow’s Michael Lindell, saying he owes millions in fees - POLITICO Mike Lindell faces money woes so serious that two law firms defending him are seeking to dump him as a client. Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi Robert, I was reading earlier today* that some Dem get-together was held last nite & they invited McCarthy to attend to discuss working together. He failed to show up. Jerry Baumchen * Sorry, do not remember where I read it.
  23. Hi Joe, He just announced that he will NOT run for the office. According to: McCarthy won't seek speakership again - Live Updates - POLITICO Jerry Baumchen
  24. Hi John, As it does: Kevin McCarthy becomes first speaker removed by House vote : NPR It is going to be a real Clown Show now. Anyone want the job, I hear that the pay is pretty good. Jerry Baumchen
  25. Hi Joe, Well, you have a lot of spare time on your hands. Jerry Baumchen
