  2. "The scary thing is that it isn't that unusual... that's the third fatality we've seen this year due to camera gear entanglement. Blue skies forever John!" What's really weird is that camera equipment is so much better than it was just a few years ago, but I've yet to see a season so uncanny as this one with all these entanglements and fatalities.... It's crazy. Tonight was kind of crazy too. I held a preterm newborn baby right after he died. He was tiny....only a couple pounds. His mother let me take him from her right after she said her good-byes. Skydiving is good for your soul.....I thank Allah or whoever's responsible for it for the opportunity to live life every day. Peace~ Lindsey http://home.earthlink.net/~linzwalley "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  3. "We were taught to do a braking turn as well. Would this keep you more level to the ground (AKA not pound in) and result in a softer, yet hard, landing??" Sure...you're more likely to have a hard landing turning low, but with a braked turn you very likely will have a nice landing....though possibly down- or cross-wind. I've only been forced with the decision once....cut off by a not-so-heads-up out of the pattern jumper as I was just about to turn to land.....did a nice controlled flat turn, landed downwind without further incident. This was under an ExtremeFX loaded 1.7:1. Just practice and be prepared! Peace~Lindsey http://home.earthlink.net/~linzwalley "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  4. I didn't know Robin and Pud well, but I met them on a few occasions. That dog LOVED to skydive! Gretchen will argue this point, but the dog had a great time IMHO. What a great skydiving buddy.... Lindsey "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  5. Hee HEE!!!! And I had forgotten how much fun it was to buy beer!!! I got to buy beer a couple of weekends ago after my first reserve ride! I was starting to think I would never have one.....WRONG!!!! "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  6. For situations like this, it is very important to know how to do a flat turn, or a braking turn. Basically you go into brakes and then slowly let up on your toggle opposite the side you want to turn. It's very simple, but like everything else must be practiced so that when you find yourself in a nasty situation like right on top of powerlines, or someone cuts you off low, you automatically know what to do! Night JUMPED

What a great night for jumping! I was thinking about it as we sat out by the river waiting on fireworks......haven't done a night jump in a really long time.....(getting that far-away look....) Glad you had a good time! ==B-D Lindsey http://home.earthlink.net/~linzwalley "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  9. Since I started jumping 7 years ago, there've been a few times that my jumping slowed WAAAAAAAY down (after having a kid, preparing for medical school....blah, blah, blah) and every time, I come up with all kinds of reasons not to go jump. BUT....when I finally get my knees back into the breeze, I realize how uptight I was feeling before.....like needing to get into a serious new groove. Then I sink back into my skydiving ways and feel soooo much better... ==B-D Lindsey http://home.earthlink.net/~linzwalley "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  10. More people were killed by pirates last year than died skydiving. (I love that one). It seems that there have been a few years lately that have been "bizarre" for skydiving fatalities.....sometimes stuff happens that you really wouldn't anticipate. For me, I stay heads-up as possible and minimize the risk. I can't IMAGINE life without skydiving! Peace~ Lindsey "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving"

Whoever said that S'port City Skydivers was closed.....well, it appears they were right. I was jumping at Camden today, and one of my buddies told me that the phones are disconnected and everything.....hmmmm.....
  12. or....you might be a redneck if.....you think a volvo is a part of a woman's anatomy! ...but the marlboro one is still a personal favorite.... Being an Arkansan, I just have to say that you totally nailed it SkyBytch....LMAO! ==B-D ==8-0 Lindsey

I kind of think they're still jumping at Shreveport....the reviews I've heard haven't been great, but you know how people like to bitch. A few of my jumpin' buddies have jumped at Gladewater and REALLY like that dz. Also....we have a little club that jumps only once a month at Camden, AR.... We have a few folks that come up from Shreveport cause we're so nice and so much fun to play with!!! We're a small but happy bunch! Peace~ ==B-D Lindsey
  14. Didn't you post this on wreck.skydiving about a month ago or so? Responses here are a lot different....hmmmm.... My husband still jumps his Nova....loves it! But he can't keep up with ME!!!!! Peace~ Lindsey
  15. Prior to my FIRST reserve ride a few weeks ago, it had been quite a few years since I had jumped an F111 canopy. I have to say I was simply stunned at what that reserve canopy felt like. Of course....it was also the difference between an FX loaded at 1.8 and a Micro-Raven at about 1.3....but still!!!! What a pisser. I mean, granted, of course it's what one would expect, but still it was quite a bummer of a canopy ride. I think my next reserve will be a VX. ==B-D Lindsey "I live with fear and terror, but sometimes I leave him and go skydiving!"
  16. But it is BEAUTIFUL in Arkansas..... ==B-D Lindsey
  17. Tulsa's a pretty nice town, and there are a few small but nice dz's in the area. I'm in Little Rock and periodically cruise over to Siloam Springs (NW Arkansas) when they have the Caravan. It's a nice place to check out. If you move there, perhaps I'll meet ya' at the dz! Peace~ Lindsey

    hookturns?

If you get a chance, it's kind of fun to practice them landing on clouds.... ==8-D Lindsey
  19. Y'all remember the guys in Quincy '95? When the 1000' ceiling hit!? All you need is an old RV and a bunch of people to catch you..... Just be sure to give yourself a good spot. Poor fella that missed and landed on his face!!! OUCH! Peace~ Lindsey "Well-behaved women rarely make history" ~~somebody
  20. Yeah....what Lisa said. Arms and legs straight with your arms pushing down on the air....below your body....you want to get as much lift as you can while you track.... Peace~ Lindsey

....It's always so nice coming back after a little time away. Most recently, it had been 8 mos since I jumped. Getting back in the air gave me that really good vibe that I just don't get when I make 10 jumps a week, week after week.... Enjoy getting your knees back in the breeze!!! Lindsey
  22. When you learn to relax in freefall, you'll find that arching is not a problem.....Relax....let the wind blow your arms and legs up. You'll find it works well... Peace~ Lindsey

  24. Nope....check out www.icaruscanopies.com. You can find in there instructions for the psycho-pack. You may have to open a link to one of their canopies....I know it's in the Extrme pages.....
  25. I had one of those scary wraps one time!!!! Back when i had about 40 jumps..... This guy decided I needed to do my first CRW jump at about 1200 feet!!!! His canopy wrapped around me so bad when he hit me from behind....only my big ol' feet were hanging out as we both descended very quickly toward the run-way under only my canopy.....the other guy was a good 215 or so pounds....me about 170..... and his canopy was huge! I couldn't see anything. Finally he got his canopy off of me (amazing) at 300 feet. It was scary. Dane....if you're listening....hope all's well in your world! Peace~ Lindsey Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.....
