  1. race and religion matter because they are part of who we are as individuals, and influence the way we think and act. They help mold us into who we are. However, although people's ancestral origins and religion influence their behavior, that isn't an excuse to treat someone unequitably, or single someone out.
  2. its the unstable exit thing...that's why they push you. you grab your ankles, and they tip you out of the plane, and your job is to arch and get stable... at least, that's how it was explained to me last week.
  3. {{{{{{{{{{{VIBES}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
  4. I think the whole point of this discussion is: always get a gear check AND if you want to check someone else's gear, ASK first and tell them what you're doing.
  5. as far as I know, they couldn't clean it well enough because of the extent of the damage, and it went septic.
  6. my brother swore by carrots and pretzel sticks and the like... something about that familiar hand to mouth thing. he's been nicotine free for two years now, so I guess it worked.
  7. I wasn't there, but I heard it was awful, really smoky. didn't hear complaints about visibility, but more about the smoke making breathing rather unpleasant.
  8. I know they jumped at least one load today at Perris... heard it was pretty miserable, though.
  9. uh oh.... remember what the mods said about mentioning hitler or nazis??? does that mean they're gonna lock the thread??? uh oh! j/k
  10. not worth it... wait three months and then you can jump all you like. injure yourself again, you may find yourself permanently sidelined. I see this with martial artists all the time... people take an injury that's fairly simple and re-injure it and make it way worse, and then they're out for much longer than they would've been had they listened to their doctors in the first place. get a second opinion if you like, but if both doctors concurr, do what they want you to do. you have the rest of your life to jump.
  11. That reply was directed at (my friend)Gemini. I am the safety bitch on our loads although unless they are a student or new jumper I WILL ask first. If I see something amiss or questionable I WILL bring it to your attention. If you are a 50 jump wonder I will ask to gear check you if you are near me and I haven't seen someone else check you and you SHOULD appreciate it. I have over 1500 jumps in 3 years and I usually present my rig to be checked by someone I trust. I've had a misrouted bridle on a Racer spotted on the ground that would NOT have pulled my pin! It would have been my 1st reserve ride (hopefully) if this had not been checked. I agree that someone should ask before checking your gear if they don't know you, but if it happens before you can stop it, assume that they are showing that they care and ask them not to do it again with out your request and if you are unsure have someone else that you trust check it again before exit. A go around for a safety issue is never frowned upon to my knowledge. Did I mention the reserve pin that in the middle of the day had almost backed out and found just before jump run a month ago? I realize that this thread started out as an invasion of privacy issue but safety is the direction it turned. I wasn't typing specifically to you. Your post was just the last one in the thread when I hit reply. It was just a general comment... if someone started messing with my gear who I didn't know, and didn't ask them to fix anything, and they didn't even tell me what they were doing, just started opening things and poking around, I'd want to take the rig off and check for myself, and even then, I'd go running off to my instructor to make sure they didn't screw it up, because who knows, the random person poking around my rig could have even less experience than I do!
  12. I would have thought that a left handed guitar player would be easier to learn. The instructor would be your exact mirror. It isn't... I play guitar righty and took lessons from a lefty... most confusing thing EVER!
  13. hmm.... Peter Pan might work well... its a pretty close to the skin costume and easy to make... of course, there's always.... www.pixyland.org SFW, but very, very WRONG.
  14. I would be very nervous if someone I didn't know started touching my gear without telling me what they were doing and why.
  15. I'm ambidexterous... can I post??
  16. if you want to make a difference, write her a letter and let her know you still care, and send her stationery and pens and stamps so she can write back.
  17. My aunt did something really cool for me... she kept a journal of all the silly, funny, or just noteworthy things that I did when I was a kid, from the day I was adopted into the family (at 5 days old or so) to when I turned 21. On my 21st birthday, she gave me the book. It was so cool! It had my whole life in there! Of course, everyone wanted to know what was in there, including my date at the time, and I could thumb through it and read the stories that I wanted people to know, and avoid the ones I found embarrassing. It was a really special gift.
  18. I'm at work. Weekdays 7:30 am to 5 pm. I work for the Los Angeles Fire Department... office is quiet today. most of the boys are out at the fires.

  20. GRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. A scientific poll has little notches in it. Then, when the snow piles up, you can tell how deep it is. that's a POLE.
  22. um... the quote was "most probably NOT the sole source..." There is do doubt he was A source, but there were several other sources as well.
  23. Thought to be the original carrier of HIV. I think he was French, wasn't he, Remmie ?
  24. I think a lot of folks here are confusing adoption with foster parenting... With foster parenting, the kids are wards of the state. the state is responsible for them and checks up on them regularly. With adoption, the names are changed on the birth certificate, and the law, for all intents and purposes, considers the parents to have the same legal rights as if the child was born to them. After a few months, there are no visits or checkups, and the parents make all normal decisions for the children. if the children in the story had been adopted, it would make sense that the state wasn't visiting them.
  25. a JD/MD is closer to a PhD than a masters, tho, so your poll is a little skewed, methinks.
