  1. Most of the time you can contact the manufacturer, provide them the serial number and DOM of the rig and they could tell you exactly what it was made with. Now if the risers were changed they may not be the same size but I hope that helps a little bit.
  2. The lower control lines on my Synergy were HMA to start with, now they are Dacron (I Think). When I ordered the first new set of lower control lines, they sent me something (Dacron, I Think) that was way different then what I had. I sent the canopy to Precision for a reline and it came back with the Black HMA lines and White (Dacron, I Think) lower control lines. NOTE: The Upper control lines are still HMA.
  3. I've broken a brake line just above the cats eye just after releasing my brakes. (Synergy 170) I replaced the lower control lines, then shortly after that I broke a center D line. The way I see it, It was time for a new line set. It was HMA with about 300 jumps. (And yes, I've see the recent other threads on HMA and number of jumps. This was at the start of this year and the end of last year.) I always do a full check after opening.
  4. I just posted that it is part of our training, something that we learn during aff, static line, or whatever method is used. It is in the USPA Skydiver Information Manual. I really couldn't tell you if it was a BSR or not. I will note that I rarely ask for a pin check BUT that is because I jump a rig that most newer jumpers are not used to seeing. A Racer with a pullout. The pin is straight, not curved and that freaks some people out. Not to mention the reserve pins are on my back and no "window" for my kill line to be checked. I check my gear before I put it on, after I put it on, when I am in the plane and just before I exit. I will gladly give a pin check to anyone.
  5. But I didn't get to jump last weekend. I had to look at a car that cost $1,400,000 (base price).
  6. Working in the middle of nowhere in Indiana and the hotel I had to stay at was having this car show. http://www.worldclassdriving.com This was the Hotel http://www.frenchlick.com/accommodations/west_baden.asp I feel so underprivileged.
  7. Gold bond for the front or back I wonder?
  8. You'd never be able to use another seat. (Or paper.)
  9. When we learn to jump we also learn gear checks (including pin checks) and are required to have someone else check it and later on check someone else. I think it is also in cat F as well. from http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Man_SIM_2008.pdf USPA Skydiver Information Manual 2008 (Page 60) Section 4 (Category D) D Equipment 3. Pre-jump equipment checks Note: The instructor should guide you through a complete pre-flight equipment check using a written checklist. a.Before each jump, check your equipment before putting it on. b. With the help of another jumper, get a complete equipment check with all your gear on before boarding c. Get your equipment checked once again before exiting the aircraft. (1) “check of threes” (jumper self-check) (i) three-ring assembly (and reserve static line) (ii) three points of harness attachment for snap assembly and correct routing and adjustment (iii) three operation handles—main activation, cutaway, reserve (2) pin check back of system (by another jumper) top to bottom (i) reserve pin in place (and automatic activation device on and set) (ii) main pin in place (iii) ripcord cable movement or correct bridle routing (iv) activation handle in place
  10. I have never used one myself. Don't get me wrong, if I had an extra $2000 I may get one. It would be the one that was heated and dried my rear with warm air. I think that if I had one most of my company that came to visit would be afraid of it. (I only have 1 bathroom in the house.) Maybe I should get one just for that reason.
  11. This is what you really want, isn't it. http://www.cleanishappy.com/support/compare.pdf From http://www.cleanishappy.com Kind of funny use of flash on the home page. Asses.
  12. In Ohio they say you must move over or slow down by 20mph BUT the law actually reads as follows. http://www.statepatrol.ohio.gov/programs/MoveOver/MOlaw.htm (A) The driver of a motor vehicle, upon approaching a stationary public safety vehicle that is displaying a flashing red light, flashing combination red and white light, oscillating or rotating red light, oscillating or rotating combination red and white light, flashing blue light, flashing combination blue and white light, oscillating or rotating blue light, or oscillating or rotating combination blue and white light, shall do either of the following: (1) If the driver of the motor vehicle is traveling on a highway that consists of at least two lanes that carry traffic in the same direction of travel as that of the driver's motor vehicle, the driver shall proceed with due caution and, if possible and with due regard to the road, weather, and traffic conditions, shall change lanes into a lane that is not adjacent to that of the stationary public safety vehicle. (2) If the driver is not traveling on a highway of a type described in division (A)(1) of this section, or if the driver is traveling on a highway of that type but it is not possible to change lanes or if to do so would be unsafe, the driver shall proceed with due caution, reduce the speed of the motor vehicle, and maintain a safe speed for the road, weather, and traffic conditions. (B) This section does not relieve the driver of a public safety vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons and property upon the highway. (C) No person shall fail to drive a motor vehicle in compliance with division (A)(1) or (2) of this section when so required by division (A) of this section. (D) As used in this section, "public safety vehicle" has the same meaning as in section 4511.01 of the Revised Code. HISTORY: 148 v H 86. Eff 9-28-99. The effective date is set by section 5 of HB 86.
  13. I know that Above the Poconos Skydivers (Hazleton, PA) claims to be "the oldest, continuously running, same Management USPA Member Skydiving Center in the World!" (Since 1961) and Skydive Greene County (Xenia, OH) has also been open and operating under the same owner since 1961 but they are not a USPA member DZ. I figured Orange, MA was the "First" commercial dz. What others are there that have been around and have not closed or changed owners?
  14. A couple of questions here. 1. What dropzone was the first civilian dropzone in the US? 2. What dropzone is the oldest continually operating dropzone in the US? I hear so many different answers and see so many claims on dz webs sites, so does anyone really know?

    I think it's Texas's turn.
  16. My supervisor got meat from one of those guys and he loved it. Keep in mind that he does not shop and his wife came home to a bunch of meat in the freezer. She wouldn't touch it but he still had her cook it up for him. I'd never touch it.
  17. You can get a different size rubber mount from L & B directly if you want. It would make mounting much easier. E-mail them and ask, their customer service is top notch. http://www.l-and-b.dk/access_alt.html
  18. Static Line is maybe the cheapest way to learn how to jump. There are a few other ways that you could learn as well, AFF and Tandem Progression. If I remember correctly SGC should start offering tandem progression again in the spring. Welcome to the sport and I hope to see you around the dropzone.
  19. I've lost 2 wedding rings. The first one was Free Climbing and I fell just a little bit, shoved my hand in a crack and the ring came off. It was a good thing that it was just the ring. This was almost 1 year to the day AND at the same location I was married. A year later, I was working in Oregon and went out with a friend for a few jumps. He was wearing gloves, I was not. He docked on me pretty quickly and my ring fell off about half way into our jump. He asked why I stopped the jump, I told him I was watching my ring go "up". I called my wife (with a few people from the DZ standing around waiting to hear what she had to say) and I was told I am not allowed to have one again. Gloves good, Rings bad. BTW, I have never worn a ring when working.
  20. Not that it matters as I don't fly very often but the Hyatt rewards program http://www.goldpassport.com has or had a promotion earlier this year that you could get a "free" 1 year clear membership with only 2 stays (not nights). I signed up for the reward program, then the clear membership but I have not flown anywhere to get the other half of my enrollment completed. It's a waste of time and money.
  21. I wouldn't consider myself uncurrent in the past, I would right now as I have not gotten as many jumps as I would have liked to this year. I just got my canopy back from a reline and I expect to pull a little higher when I am checking to see if the canopy flies any different. I'm sure I'll work myself back down to my normal 2000 ft deployment altitude. I'm no sky god by any means but 400 jumps over 4 years with a decent winter and working 40-80 hours a week is not terrible. I don't live at the DZ or work there, it's 60+ miles 1 way and I have a wife and kid. I even got a motorcycle this year. Edited to reword: Maybe you should take a few minutes and fill out a little bit of your profile, you have been registered here for 4 1/2 years and have only made 3 posts.
  22. I went out 1 time for a short ride, ended up a the DZ 60 miles away, did a few jumps then rode back home. I was just wearing a short sleeve t-shirt, I was sun burnt pretty bad. I guess that's better than road burn but I learned my lesson on that one.
  23. Those were pretty funny, I don't think I looked like that. At least if I did there was NO video!
  24. I guess I could have been more clear. If I start my deployment at 2k I am under a fully inflated canopy around 1600-1400. Yes it is a brisk opening but it has never hurt me. Maybe I really start at 2100 feet. I have a pullout (pulls pin and is attached to base of pilot chute) on my Racer. I don't roll the nose of my canopy or push it in, I just wrap the tail around my flaked out canopy. If I ever get around to installing jumptrack again and downloading my altitrack data the graphs show it. Not that the data is exact or perfect but it matchs what is in my head pretty close. My home DZ is mostly corn fields, very little tress or other tall hazards. The only 2 times I've used my reserve it took about 300 feet to open each time. Here is one of them. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2822601;page=unread#unread
