  1. There is a very easy way to avoid pissing in other people's pools: call the locals! You have plenty of experienced jumpers down in your corner of the country, I suggest you give them a ring or meet them for a beer. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  2. I'd like to replace the brake lines on my Crossfire2 but I'm struggling to find a UK rigger who carries vectran. Are you one? Do you know one? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  3. I'm glad that came up, I was wondering about that. I have a demo Prodigy which should fit so I'll suggest that. Thanks for the advice everyone. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  4. One of the instructors (with no ws experience) at my home dz has a GS-1 on the way and has asked me to give him a brief for his first flights. He's very experienced, clued up and capable and I'm happy to help but I'm not at all familiar with the GS-1. Is there anything non-obvious that I should be checking for during kit-up / before exit? Any change to emergency procedures? I see from the pics that the wing release is up by the throat. Basic body position advice? What are you GS-1 pilots doing with your arms? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  5. Does anyone know what a balloon jump costs and whether Burner will take travellers cheques? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Your friend was taught by a rigger and jumps at one of the biggest dropzones in the country. Wouldn't it just be easiest to have one installed properly? Gus ps Masking tape might not be such a bad idea, I know at least one very experienced jumper doing exactly that. But I'd find someone who's familiar with it before trying it. OutpatientsOnline.com
  7. I have more than 500 jumps with my 0.3 from xdream-optics and have had no problems at all - fogging or otherwise. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  8. Cool find. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  9. I didn't go, just found these online. New solid state camcorders from Samsung. The previous models didn't seem to have a great rep on here, perhaps these will be better. More interesting is a new super sensitive image sensor which they reckon is 1000 times more sensitive than a traditional sensor and can capture images in less than 1 lux. I would love a super sensitive camcorder that would basically record in the dark. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  10. Yes! If you're confident the other person can keep up. You may want to ease it on slowly to give them a fighting chance - just incase you smoke them. If one of you can backtrack that's a nice way of doing it. Otherwise just track alongside each other, maintain eye contact and slowly crank up the pace. Tracking in close proximity like that is hard but great fun. Big tracking dives are often more of a social think than a tracking thing! Remember to be VERY wary of your heading on tracking jumps and where other groups are, it's very easy to close big distances whilst tracking and it would suck to suddenly find yourself in the middle of another group opening. 11. I'm obsessed with tracking dives! I rarely do anything else and the biggest single thing that has helped me progress is having a bunch of likeminded friends to regularly jump with. Our jumps tend to be 'no mercy', ie if you get hosed on exit, or get burbled or just have an off day you will get left behind. Waaay, waaay behind. That bit of friendly pressure is great cos it pushes you to track better and better everytime. So find someone else who's looking to do the same thing and get going! John's advice is sound as well, video can be a real help. People often think they're in "max track" when infact they're in a gentle delta position with a big-ass arch on. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  12. I don't need a Protec to acheive that. Mostly because I'm not that bothered about video any more and I'd rather have the simplist possible setup. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  13. I have almost 1000 video jumps (well, jumps with a video camera) and a 2K Composites FFX that I could mount my stills camera on. But I actually quite fancy just jumping with stills, that's why I was thinking about using my old Protec. If that really is a bad idea then I'll figure something else out. Agreed and I have a chincup/cutaway system on order. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  14. I have a stroboframe but I was thinking about just bolting the camera straight on to the helmet through the hole at the very top of my Protec (the hole is quite wide so I might need a washer or something). Two things worry me though: (1) The bolt would be very close to my skull. If I got hit hard from above I'll have a bolt shaped dent in my head. (2) The weakpoint in the mount becomes the plastic of the helmet. Are these valid concerns? Is there anything I can do about them? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Running exits

Thank you everyone for the advice, I especially liked this: It's a nice way of thinking about it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

You have at least a couple of experienced and active jumpers at Sibson, they would be a good place to start for advice. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

    Running exits

Does anyone have any good advice on running exits? I very rarely do them but occasionally it would be really useful and I'd like to be more confident at them. I have a lovely 360 ft jump which is perfect for practicing - I just always loose my bottle when it comes to it! I get worried about missing my footing on the edge and going arse over tit. Do you still launch on your final step or just carry on running? Do you pace out the run-up? Thanks, Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  18. Modern wingsuit flying is a very young discipline. As it matures we'll see advances in materials and design that will increase lift and decrease drag. We'll also see advances in technique and general knowledge of how best to fly. Bring it on! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  19. It's very cool of you to let people copy the DVD, I hope people who get copies make at least a nominal donation by way of a thank-you. You can paypal them at iflyucanhardlymoveforward AT gmail DOT com Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  20. The tracking in this film is almost unreal. The bar has been set very high by these guys and I applaud them for it. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  21. With a fairly small, fairly twitchy canopy I pitch 1000 ft higher than normal - at 4k. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  22. Check out some of the pics on www.jii-wings.com. I remember Robi or Yari posting quite a while back saying they'd tested wrist-to-ankle designs and that the arm strain was just too much. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  23. I would not buzz someone without planning it with them first - and I'd be pretty pissed off if someone buzzed me without asking. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
  24. Congrats to the Aiello clan
  25. Top decision Mike, BASE is not going anywhere. When you're ready you're ready and if you're never ready then at least you gave it a go. Respect. Gus ps About that shiny new rig..... OutpatientsOnline.com
