  1. Between this and your Andy9o8 thread your sounding pretty frisky today. Is there something in the water down there in Florida?
  2. So this would imply that members of this “devoutly religious” group actually watched the movie. They are going to go to hell and fry in a vat of pig fat for viewing this decadent western movie!!!!
  3. Yeah, it does have a pronounced dutch roll without the yaw damper. So do the 20 and 30 series Lear Jets I used to fly. Welcome to the world of spoilers instead of ailerons. However, if I’m guessing correctly, you are about to move on to bigger and better things. Again, congratulations! And thanks for serving!
  4. Congratulations! But I don't understand what you mean by saying "I get 2 type ratings for flying the T-1". What 2 type ratings are you talking about? If your talking about your multi-engine rating, that is not an aircraft type rating. Are you talking about getting a type rating for the BE-400 and the MU-300, which was the original model, made by Mitsubishi? I have 4 type ratings in 4 different business jets. One of them is in the BeechJet 400 (BE-400) which I believe is basically the same as the T-1 you flew, except for the paint job and a few extra radios! How do you like it?
  5. That's pretty sick Twardo. I love it! BTW, have you noticed how similar your avitar is to Slyde's? You guys related?
  6. Who makes the super90? Got a web site? Thanks!! The wife is pretty much locked into a semi-auto 20 ga. But I really do appreciate all the insight everyone has provided into the considerations of a pump. I have gotten quite an education in this thread.
  7. The law here in Michigan states that you can not carry in an establishment that makes more than half of it’s income from the sale of alcohol. So a bar that doesn’t sell food is off limits. However, you can carry in a TGIFridays, Outback Steak House, Applebees, ect, because supposedly they make more from the food they sell even though they have full bars. The trick here is that you can not have an alcohol volume of more than 0.02 and carry. So you can go into an establishment that serves food and alcohol but you really can’t drink. What is the max. alcohol limit in Arizona?
  8. You got that right Bill. Lot's of good info so far. I really appreciate everyone who has responded. Thank you all very much!!!!! The wife is leaning toward the Saiga 20 at this time. Does anyone know a good site that sells items such as larger magazines, pistol grips and light attachments for the Saiga 20? Lou, thanks for that shot info. And to answer an earlier question, as my wife says, the only child in our house is the one she married.
  9. That or a used 20ga. Saiga. Hey everyone, thanks for the input. Keep it coming. I have few questions. Why have a couple of you suggested a used gun? Is it about cost? I just did a quick search of Remington 1100 after market grips. All the pistol grips were for 12 ga. only. Any good sites you can recommend for 20 ga. aftermarket parts for Remington and Saiga 20ga? Thanks again!!!!!
  10. Ok all you experts out there. I would appreciate some advice. My wife has decided that she wants a shotgun for home defense. She is small, 5’ nothing. She wants a 20 gauge, not a 12 gauge, due to her size and recoil considerations. She also wants it to be a semi-automatic, not a pump. I have been to a few gun stores and looked around on-line. I’m not coming up with anything except for hunting guns. Something with a stock might be an acceptable consideration so she can tuck the stock under her arm. A tactical model with pistol grip and forward grip is desired. The shorter the barrel and overall length the better. Laser sight compatibility desired but not required. Point shooting, not aimed shooting, is the preferred method. I’m talking home defense only. So, please tell me if you know of any models that MUST meet the following- 20 gauge. Semi-automatic. No pump actions. Shortest overall length. It’s ok if it must be registered as a pistol here in Michigan. Maximum shell capacity- tube or magazine, no drums. Hopefully 5+1 or better. Off the shelf with only laser and/or tube extension kits. Cost not a factor. Please, don’t get into the advantages of a hand gun over a shotgun. I’ve bee through this already. She wants a 20 gauge semi-automatic. You married guys know what I mean!! And I know about reduced loads for 12 gauges for reduced recoil. It’s not a consideration for her, although I wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts on this matter. Thanks for your time and suggestions!!!
  11. Anybody have a photo of this Maria gal yet? I think one of these is the woman in question.

  14. This is somewhat off topic but it might be interesting to some in this thread. Those of you who have traveled into the USA from other countries are familiar with the Customs and Immigration form you have to fill out upon entry into the USA. One of the questions on that form asks something to the effect if you have more than $10,000 in cash on you. My neighbor is a Customs Agent and I asked him about this. He said it is not illegal to carry more than $10,000 into the country. But it is illegal not to declare it. This applies to US and non-US citizens. He said the question is asked in order to keep track of the amount of money entering the country. He works at an international airport and said it is not uncommon for him to see people come in from other countries with $80,000 to $100,000 in cash. They can walk right in with all of it if they declare it. I don’t recall what happens if you don’t declare it and they find it. Some of these people come from countries where they don’t trust the banking system to transfer their money to a US account. They are sometimes paying for their child’s college education in the US or immigrating with their life savings. Although he didn’t say it, I’m pretty sure that huge amounts of cash would trigger some sort of notation on a watch list or intelligence database. As far as carrying cash domestically on a flight, there is no law that I know of that sets a limit. Some TSA people are police wanna-be’s who overstep their authority and make up rules all the time. Even if this guy escalated the situation by not giving a direct answer, I’m glad he did it. He was doing nothing wrong.
  15. Hi Pasi, Yep, that's the photo. Thanks for posting it so I can steal it!!! I replied to your PM. Thanks, Jack
  16. I don't remember exactly what month the photo was published Terry. But it was on the front page of Skydiving. I'm pretty sure it was within 6 months of us doing it in June 1980. Hope you can find it and scan it! Thanks for looking!!
  17. We did that cheapo tri-plane on 6/15/80 at the old SOD Farm, east of Tampa. We used student rigs, 28' 7TU cheapos with full gutter gear. The three of us in the triplane were Ferd Boger (RIP), me and Mike Lewis. Al Ramsey took the air to air photo. We even did a 4 stack with two 28's on top and two Strato Stars below. Shortly after this photo a few of us bought some 28's and modified them. We gutted the lines that ran through the canopy, installed three ring risers, diapers and hand deploy pilot chutes. They would fit in our existing Strato Star/Cloud sized rigs. Much safer. Those were crazy days! I would love to get a scan if anybody has one.
  18. GPS tells you your speed in 3D space relative to the ground. That's meaningless when it comes to telling you your airspeed. Also, understand that pitot tubes have heat in them to help prevent them from getting iced to begin with, but that doesn't mean that a baseball sized chunk of hail couldn't take them out. As I said much earlier, there are lots of "normal" ways that an airplane can fail. GPS derived speed is your speed over the ground. It is not your airspeed (speed through the air). Airspeed is sensed by the pitot tubes and transmitted to the airspeed indicators and the autopilot. Normally only one pitot tube at a time supplies the airspeed information to the autopilot. The autopilot is linked to the auto-throttles (on aircraft like the A330 that are equiped with this system). An indication of slowing speed will cause the auto-throttles to advance in order to maintain the airspeed that the flight crew previously selected. If the airspeed sensed by the pitot tubes is incorrect (in this case, too low) the aircraft can accelerate through it's maximum operating speed without setting off the overspeed horn. I'm not saying this is what caused the aircraft to crash. I'm just clairifying how this particular system works in reference to some of the previous comments.
  19. I think he’s off his medication again.

  21. I noticed that the aircraft pictured in your link is the same one pictured in the ad in Parachutist. That's interesting as I haven't seen the ad. Have to go check it out... which issue? This months issue, June '09, page 73.
  22. wasn't the b-26 the " widow maker" but i guess their have been numerous models with that nickname over the years. Don't forget the F-104 when it was flown by the West German Air Force. They also called it the Widow Maker. I believe they were using it in a ground attack role and lost a lot of pilots. It was designed as an interceptor.
