  1. Not necessarily. As you can see in the photo, even when they are as much overhead as possible, they bump up against each other. So each canopy is tilted to one side, spilling much of the air it would normally "trap" inside. Thus, the efficiency of each chute is much less than what it would be by itself directy overhead. It could be that each chute is only half as good at arresting descent rate, and thus, even with two chutes out, tilted at angles, the descent rate is similar to just one chute deployed properly. i don't think it's a final stable configuration, but rather early stage of reserve deployment. what whould be the forces to keep them in that configuration ? would the canopies eventually settle down over head ? the do bump to each other, but the bumps will get sower and slower and everything will be over your head. i know couple of people who had two rounds out and if was very slow descent. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 7. I just got back from Morocco where we had the first speed skydiving meet for 2005 Speed Skydiving World Cup season. The meet went perfectly, the dropzone is gorgeous, with green grass and 80 degrees temperatures and mountains with snow 3 miles away. The organization was top notch and the office of tourism of Morocco treated several competitors to free air tickets, hotel and food. Which was very nice :) The results are still pre-official, but we got some interesting pics from Morocco. For those who are curious, go to speedskydiving.com and click on Morocco and Latest News. For those who are curious and lazy, here is the direct link to the gallery: http://speed.hohenegger.at/worldcup/benimellal2005/benimellal2005.html If you don't want to travel too far, http://jumptown.com will host American meet in July 22-24. Jumptown is located 70 miles west from Boston, MA. Some info about American meet and speed skydiving can be found at http://jumptown.com/events/speedskydiving.shtml. So if you feel fast or just a have fall rate problem, maybe I'll see you in July :) Stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 8. strange. well, at least red ones that i have for competition have jump numbers preset that cannot be erased. they are used for offset for 2 pro-track downloads .. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Speed Skydiving Forum

  10. are you sure that you shouldn't have said: "boy am i glad jackass got insurance!!!" ? it's not your insurance that pays you, but his. and deductible is not waived, it's just not your deductible... unless he does not have insurance and you are paid under "not insured motorist" and in this case i think you'd have to pay deductible. i often look at insurance as one big well masked scam ... but it could be handy, i guess ... stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 11. next year world cup would most likely have the same layout - 4 meets over the course of 4 month. may to august. so far we have these candidates - US, UK, Sweden, Morocco. the last one is questionable, could be replaced with France maybe. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 12. no problem, man ! i'm glad you came to compete and i'm happy the event went without any problems and very safely. otherwise it would look bad on my event organizing record let's hope for a bigger, better, faster event next year !! stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 13. i think there might be some changing for speed skydiving coming next year. i just had a 2 hour conversation with Ken at the airport and we have many ideas to make it simplier and more accessible for everyone. so stay tune and don't forget to check the forums :) it was nice meeting you at jumptown and i'm glad you came to compete. i hope you had fun and would like to come over again for competition next year. stan. p.s. say hi to your daughter from me -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 14. the big question is where the pro-track was placed ... when placed inside of the helmet and also not averaged with another pro-track, the readings will be way off. Amazon showed me the jump with 310 mph max speed on hers. as she found out recently :) getting that speed on the pro-track placed on the harness and also having that result within 30 km/h window with another pro-track on other side of the harness is quite different. but it was fun having her at my DZ for the competition, she's quite a character :) i hope to see more people next year :) stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 16. i thought "being in date" was a part of proper maintenance for the reserve. i'm sorry, the whole sentence just doesn't sound right to me. if you maintain it proper, doesn't it imply that you repack it and inspect, etc ? otherwise was is the maintenance ? keeping an eye on your rig ? not keeping your rig in your car's trunk ? i think you contradict yourself. repack is the proper maintenance. don't get me wrong, i'm not a safety nazi of any kind and i don't agree that safety is priority number one, otherwise i'd stay on the ground and probably wouldn't choose speed skydiving as my first discipline. but maintaining reserve in date doesn't take much effort, so why not follow it ? i know there are notions to kick reserve repack up to 6 months but it's not the point. even if repack cycle is 6 months, there will always be someone who would go for an extra month on well maintained reserve and push it even further. push envelope in the sky, flying better, faster, swooping longer ... going longer on you reserve doesn't seem to be a great achievement, but rather a negligence. clearly, you have more jumps and experience then i do, but i still think the theory behind out of date properly maintained reserve is wrong. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 17. Just wondering where you got that idea from, I dont see anything from his post even mentioning that in the littlest bit. there are couple: that's where i got the idea ... don't walk back in if you're rig is out of date. there is no reason to "warn" anyone right after the jump, since presumably the rig can not be out of date since you just jump it. the second quote is pretty much self explanatory as well. i might got the wrong impression, but that's the one i got. stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 18. am i the only one who thinks that having reserve "in date" is indeed a good idea ? who are we trying to fool jumping out of date reserves ? FAA or ourselves ? Stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Speed Skydiving Forum
  19. Yep, I'll agree -- changing the subject is about as clever as it gets when trying to defend John Kerry. 22. i do speed dives and secure equipment is very important for me. i opted for pud for that reason and i'm very happy with it. i also put a piece of velcro on flat part of the pud where it's sewn to the pilot chute and matching piece on the bottom of the container for extra security. and it stays put very nicely. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Show off.. I did however one time tip my long neck Bud Light over and was able to pick it back up and slam it down before it fizzed over. I may not be a braniac, but I got good reflexes. oh, yeah ? i was able to finish my beer once even before i was done opening it ! :):):) and i stayed at holiday express last night ! -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ...
