  6. Jerry, Thanks for your response. This is what I was thinking too, just wanted to check. When buyer pays shipping, do you require extra payment and then you pay for actual shipment, or do you use postal service to claim the shipment fees from buyer? 7. Hi! I sold couple of dytters/pro-tracks and a main canopy on classifieds here but now I'm selling the entire rig and I was wondering if someone can help me out with some answers. when I sold my canopy, I used my rigger at my dz and a mediator - the buyer sent money order to my rigger and I sent the canopy to the buyer. after canopy was recieved I got the check and transaction was complete. I was wondering how people go about selling the entire rig? also what is best service to ship a rig? and how does it work if buyer pays the shipping fees? thanks! -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 13. Now and then there are some posts about people doing ridiculous speeds in freefall without even trying it. Here is your chance to make it official ! :) During CASA boogie at jumptown.com on July 22nd-24th there will be an open speed skydiving event which is part of ISSA Speed Skydiving World Cup 2005. Qualification jumps will be held on Friday and competition jumps will take place Saturday and Sunday. Prizes include L&B Pro-Tracks, Pro-Dytters, PD and Aerodyne certificates ... If you think you're crazy enough or just simply fall rate challenged, come out and show what you've got :) Speed skydiving news and official rules can be found at http://speedskydiving.com and additional information is attached below. Feel free to PM me if you need more info or have any questions ! Go fast ! Friday, July 22 - Sunday, July 24, 2005 Jumptown will hold 2005 Speed Skydiving World Cup Meet in accordance with International Speed Skydiving Association (ISSA) rules. What is Speed Skydiving? Speed skydiving is a new skydiving discipline with definition as simple as it gets. It was developed in the last few years and represents the fastest non-motorized sport on the Earth. In the essence, speed skydiving is the discipline where the only one aspect of the skydiving counts - free fall speed. The speed achieved by human body in free fall is function of two factors, body weight and body orientation. In stable, belly to earth position, terminal velocity of the human body is about 120 mph, stable freefly head down position has terminal speed around 150-180 mph. Further minimizing body drag and streamlining the body position allows to reach greater speeds in vicinity of 300 mph. Achieving and maintaining high free fall speed is the goal of speed skydiving. How speed is measured? Speed measurements are done by two free fall computers, Pro-Tracks, placed on lateral webbing of the competitor's rig. Each competitor is issued 2 official red Pro-Tracks for every run. Speed is measured as average speed over measurement zone using 2 Pro-Tracks and 2 Pro-Track readings are averaged. Pro-Tracks should be rotated between competitors for every run. The measurement zone represents a vertical kilometer where speed measurements take place. It starts at 2700 meters (8858 ft.) and stops at 1700 meters (5577 ft.) Requirements Each competitor who has not participated in competition before has to perform qualification jump to verify competitor's eligibility to enter the competition. Minimum qualification speed for men is 300 km/h (186 mph) and 250 km/h (155 mph) for women. Average speed over the measurement zone is taken as qualification speed. Competition Layout World cup meet is held over the course of 3 days, Friday through Sunday. Friday: Qualification jumps are done on Friday for anybody who didn't show official results before Saturday: Beginning of competition. Qualified competitors should be present at the time scheduled by hosting dropzone. Sunday: Completion of the meet. Beer. The plane that will be used for competition is Twin Otter and altitude will in 13000-14000ft range. There will be small fee for competition to cover organization expenses. 15. ha ! i never realized it was that old. it's actually my fault that it was brought up. i was looking for a post about results of speed competition in Spa 2 weeks ago and this one poped up. i didn't check the date, and just replied :) -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 17. what about 305 mph for starters ? I also have 315 mph graph, but it's at home. on a side note, people had speeds up to 600 mph on pro-tracks placed on their ankles. that location is highly unreliable ... -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 18. by the way, Craig, do you happen to know what pro-track set up Lugi was using ? how many and where they we located ? with negative speed and negative deployment altitude registered in helmet placed pro-tracks, it throws the whole thing into different direction :) -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 19. interesting conversation about speed skydiving. as Ken said in prior post I do wish to that Luis Cani would join a competition and help promote it and move it in the right direction. there will be a meet in the US July this year (http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/calendar/detail_page.cgi?ID=99&d=1) and it would be nice if Luis could show up and prove how fast he can go. it would make an interesting competition. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 20. Because there is a much lower risk that a metal d-ring reserve handle will cause an early reserve deployment simply though it's own weight because the pressure of the reserve pc spring and closing loop on the ripcord will hold the weight of the d-ring. The same cannot be said of the cutaway system. wouldn't it still make sense to reduce risk even further with lighter loop anyway ? -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Speed Skydiving Forum
  21. less drag was never my intention. better grip was. and using your argument about plastic loop cutaway handle, why not use the same for reserve then ? -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Speed Skydiving Forum
  22. From Bill Booth's post, few posts above: "When a metal RESERVE ripcord handle comes loose, the pressure from the pilot chute spring on the pin will usually keep the reserve shut. However, there is no such tension on the 3-ring system, so if the handle comes loose, the whole system is much more likely to come apart." i saw that post. with D ring, matching parts of velcro lock around the ring , making it really hard to dislodge in first place, unless it's snagged on something. with lower profile than pillow and fact, that majority of my jumps are speed dives with no one near me, i, personally, opted for 2 D rings. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 23. If having 2 metal handles cause confusion during a cutaway, I think it is time for some added training on EP. One is right, one is left. Hard to confuse. jmo. Sparky What's your take on Bill Booths ascertion that a metal cutaway handle if dilodged can more easily extract the cables from their housings? my take again, if you're worried about D-Ring as your cutaway handle, but have it as your reserve handle, it makes no sense. if you have two pillows, it's a different story. my personal opinion, for me and for my type of flying i do, two D-rings are more appropirate. unless it's snug on something, it's really hard to dislodge the rings. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Speed Skydiving Forum
  24. - possible confusion at cutaway time - higher probability of snagging (i only compare this to two pillows vs two d-rings configuration. half way configuration doesn't make any sense in this argument of snagging) - people not understanding what it's all about when they see you and arguing with you :) -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... 25. yeah, now i see empty sections on the main opposite the reserve. ok, agree :) -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... Speed Skydiving Forum
