  1. Sounds like someone making excuses?
  2. Google is your friend: http://www.uspa.org/competition/records.htm NC doesn't have one listed though. Talk to Pam and Randy... they would have a lot more info.
  3. http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/1211484/ Does this happen to be a CSS otter?
  4. For any of you not following along at home, Brian Ball's 4-way team "Ranch Pulse" just won the intermediate class at Nationals! OmniSkore NSL Congrats Brian!
  5. Snopes is your friend: http://www.snopes.com/photos/airplane/fire01.asp
  6. Clicky to the other thread (where all the info is) Some of us will be down there doing the 50-ways, but that means we're busy pretty much all day Fri/Sat/Sun. Maybe fun jumps at the end of the day. People I think that are going for the bigways: Karen Wood, Pam, Randy, LJ and me.
  7. Hello everyone, I just got word that I have extra tunnel time this weekend if anyone wants to fly in the Orlando tunnel. Sorry about the late notice, but Laura Kraus broke her wrist and won't be able to fly. Because we're buying so much time, it's much cheaper than usual... only $550 per hour (plus coaching if you want awesome RW coaches). I have 50 minutes available... 30 on Sun and 20 minutes on Monday, though I might be able to rearrange if needed. It's first come, first served, so let me know! We can probably work with you with rides and hotel rooms. Email me: [email protected]
  8. Can she teach you how to make your user pic more than just the upper left corner? I love annoying trained killers Edited to avoid the ad links the site adds
  9. Big camp! Current lineup: - Chicago Team - Darren - Greg McCallum - Janine - Jim - Laura Kraus - Louis French - Lyman - Matt Lyle - Paul - Portia - Seth - Whitney - Yevgeniy Right now there's zero time left unfortunately.
  10. For clarification, this matt did not go to the chick flick. Edited for typo.
  11. Try practicing 4-way from a dropzone that only ever has a tailgate... we get ZERO experience launching exits. Yes, we can take out a fire-and-forget over and over, but that is a point on every jump. Blow the exit and your score is hosed, even for a team that's not serious.
  12. Or they ask that because of the number of rounds you will be competing, 4 vs. the 6 the other classes do.
  13. Darin, your mistake was trying to apply logic. There is none ever used. Like why it's better to put out freeflyers first "because they get down to pull altitude faster."

    OUCH

You have to cheat a little bit... the page or the plugin setup is messed up. Just view the page source and fix the URL... to this: http://www.teamfastrax.org/videos/Dougs%20Nose%20-%20LG.mov
  15. Just an FYI... We have another tunnel camp scheduled over Labor Day (Sept 1-4) if anyone wants to come. That's the weekend before the final CaSL meet. Let me know if you're interested or want more details. Email me: [email protected]
  16. Hey guys... Just wanted to let everyone know that there is tunnel time is available if anyone wants it over Memorial Day weekend. We have about 1 hour 40 minutes available, so let me know if you're interested or want more information. In general, it's $700 per hour of tunnel time, plus $100 per hour if you want RW coaching (from awesome coaches!). That's easily divisible, so just do the math. The camp is mainly for us flat flyers, but it's pretty easy to get FF coaching, usually for free from the tunnel rats there. Just email me: [email protected]. I'm in and out all weekend, so it may take me until Tuesday to respond.
  17. That jump rocked... I was literally laughing as I tracked away after it. Was quite the weekend
  18. I think even I will be out at CSS on Sunday... and I never jump anymore
  19. I give blood a lot too... usually the double red cell donation (they take 2 units of red cells, but give me back all my platelets and plasma) and I'm fine within a couple days. I usually just try to give before Thursday and I'm fine for the weekend. Did it Friday morning once and the first load Saturday I learned what hypoxia starts to feel like... light headed, nausea, yea.... fun! Evidently you need those red blood cells I've asked before and they just say to give it a couple days and if I feel fine, then use good judgment.
  20. Yup. It was on a Lotus 190, loaded around 1.1, so a fairly docile canopy. It was in a spin, but a pretty slow spin. I recently had a premature brake fire on opening on a Crossfire2 139 which was way more violent... spun up 5/6 times and took me over 1500 feet to fix it. If I would have seen it was a snapped brake line, I would have chopped it immediately. But on that Lotus which handled wonderfully, I was confident I could land it safely (maybe not gracefully, but not the point!) so I made the decision to not cut it away. It's all a confidence thing. I think the person just needs to do what feels right to them, not always what they've been told. They just need to make a rational decision, trust their decision and go with it. I was confident I could land it, so I did. I would hesitate telling anyone what to do in this situation... if the person is freaked out about landing a minor malfunction, they should cut away. I felt I had a handle on the situation and proceeded down that road.
  21. The canopy opened hard... much harder than normal, and when I looked up the right brake line was still stowed and the left had snapped where it's finger trapped. So I don't know if the hard opening broke it, or the hard opening was caused by it. But I don't remember the turn being that bad to be honest... I realized almost immediately what was going on and released the other brake to stop the spin and then started seeing if I could steer and land the canopy and then make decisons about cutting away. I've since had premature brake releases on newer, smaller canopies and they are pretty crazy spins almost immediately, but on only a 1.1 WL it wasn't that bad. On the new canopy it would have been a nice fun spinner....
  22. I had a broken brake line and landed it on rears... even stood up the landing. But I went through the same decision process at 2500' to decide to chop it or not. Fun, huh? Now it's kind of fun to purposely land on nothing but rear risers just to be prepared if it happens again. Loaded a little heavier now (the broken brake line was on like WL of 1.1) so it's a bit trickier, but it's a good skill to have I think.
  23. Go through a dealer... better discounts. I paid around $1600 as well for a new custom designed Sam.
  24. Hey, don't hate the playa', hate the game (because you all know i would say that in real life)
  25. I still don't really understand what happened... I've been to Deland three times and had great experiences. The one time I was on the same otter load as Deland Fire was practicing... We talked and joked with Pilcher and Thomas Hughes on the way up, and Ian/Gary Smith /Natasha were really friendly too. Another time I did a fun jump with a couple of their local people, who are notoriously elitist. The other time was with Laura, Portia and Chris the tunnel rat... they freeflew, but there was plenty of people to talk to on the ground. Yes, they make low time jumpers (
