  1. i guess he just wanted to try something new. Maybe he needed the banks money to buy a gun
  2. I checked it...and it didnt show up, so I thought something must have gone haywire...ooops
  3. do you really think that "some" of them would not continue to drive even if their licence was suspended ( me included. I'd tell them to put their test where the sun doesnt shine.maybe no insurance, but at that age, what are they going to do, hang me?
  4. In Newmarket, Ontario (Canada eh?) a man tried to rob a bank today by telling the bank manager he would sic his german shepherd dog on him if he didnt hand over some money. Soon the police showed up, shot the dog twice, and arrested the man. Some days it just doesnt pay to get out of bed.
  5. Today, in Newmarket Ontario (Canada eh?) a man tried to hold up a bank by threatening to sic his GermanShepherd dog on the manager. After the police showed up, they shot the dog twice...and arrested the man. I think he should have stayed in bed this morning. Some days it doesnt pay to get up.
  6. we just had a kid on foot playing chicken with his "friend" in a car...the guy on foot was killed and the other guy fled the scene, and turned himself in the next day. He's not out on $5000. bail, and free to drive...Good old Canada eh?
  7. it depends on what you define as "elderly" I'm 71, and I might be willing to take a test in about 15 yrs. Actually, I got my drivers licence at a hardware store for $3.00 back in 1952. Things have sure changed.
  8. the second you drop your hands lower than your shoulders, your head and shoulders will drop slightly, so your body is not horizontal with the durface of the earth, you are travelling slightly "head and shoulders down". If your hands and arms are in front of you, that is sufficient to hold your head and shoulders so your body is entirely flat and horizontal with the earth. Surely this isnt new to you?
  9. I flew with wings back in 1968...although not used for tracking. The vertical dscent speed is extremely slower, so for you to say "Birdmen almost always pull in a track," isnt quite relevant. My problem with the idea of pulling in a track, is of you are head down, the opening shock (without wings) is hard on the brain for the speed vertical/horizontal, to a stop under the inflated canopy. The Para Commander is a great canopy, and I always used it for extremely low openings. However, I shudder to think these threads encourage even one student to go above his limitations "because he read that its possible" I thought this thread was generating "safety"
  10. as I said on another thread, pulling in a track can, and usually will put your lights out. If in tracking, you are slightly head down, and thats when you pull, the brain cannot stand the opening shock at speed as well as such a quick change of position, and combined the lights go out. I have had it happenonce, and know others who were totally unconcious once the canopy opened. Its hazardous thing to do, and its even more dangerous for whuffo/sudents who dont know where their head is when the pull at best of times. Dont encourage the students to emulate the more experienced jumpers....or disaster may hit your DZ.
  11. The woman wanted video of unusual landings, like the guy who landed on a table of Cole Slaw or food...she didnt want death footage. You guys are a bit too sensitive about nothing.its a bad case of overreaction to a non situation....time to grow up children.
  12. misskriss....I didnt know we had a hostile relationship, but maybe this will help. I ate grits once....tasted like wallpaper paste. ugh
  13. sounds like she has a drool when she eats rather than a drawl when she speaks
  14. Im from Canada...Is that Okra Winfrey your frying....that doesnt sound very appetizing to me
  15. I have been thinking about that joke over and over and cant stop laughing. Its one of the best I've heard in years.
  16. Zeemax: do you use earplugs when clubbing so you dont hear your victim's screams?
  17. [:(If 71yrs old is considered OLD, I have never had ringing in my ears, never ever wore earplugs, and seldom goggles. I wear goggles now, but not in the good old days. (for what its worth)]
  18. Yes in the 70s they used MA-i Pcs, and I used two of them on my Para Commander, and sat up for every opening. I still have 1 Strato Cloud square and a belly wart 23ft reserve. The square has a 36" Hotdog PC, with a spring that is about 30 inches high. When the pack opens, believe me, its gone. I still sit up for openings, and its the best way.
  19. GIVING ADVICE ON THIS THREAD SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN AS A JOKE. THERE ARE TOO MANY STUDENTS WHO THINK ABOUT IT, THEN ATTEMPT IT, SAYING, OH SOME GUY WITH LOTS OF EXPERIENCE SAID TO DO IT.......... THAT IS AFTER HIS LIGHTS COME BACK ON. SOME OF THESE GUYS ARE WUFFOS DISGUISED AS STUDENTS..
  20. I dont think advising someone to pull in a track is good advice....his lights will likely go out because of the higher speed and sudden change of position of the brain. I would however, suggest that as he dumps, that he drop his feet into an almost standing position, thus allowing the air flow to come up over his back, taking the PC with it. It makes for an easier opening shock as well.
  21. no oil....America wants their rice crop.
  22. You are correct...line twists can be packed into a rig. I've even packed a 16mm camera into a rig...and the first time, I had a mal and cutaway. Ive had about 9 or 10 reserves opened, mostly for mals, but in one case, because I didnt have enough altitude to open a main. There is a big diffenece in squares and rounds (PC etc)...and although I like the flying I get from a square, I like the openings I got from a Parac Commander and others. A square, I open at 2K, and round ??? I am more concerned about packing a square (and I hate packing) but with the PC you could flake it and sleeve it and the whole job was 5 minutes. No matter what you prepare your mind...it has to wrk as well as the canopy
  23. If you have line twists, the altitude wasnt responsible for the twists...it was instability. Im not advocating opening low...do it if you want, but you'd better have a good pack job and a stable position when you dump it.
  24. The altitude, whether low or high has no effect in contributing to a mal.If it opened at 2000. ft, that same chute will open at any altitude. The fact that you are close to the ground ( i.e.500 ft) doesnt in itself cause a malfunction, unless you are so freaked out you dont have control, but that is NOT the altitude, its the jumper
  25. U guys havent finished liberating Iraq yet....and now you want to do the same elsewhere....you guys must be beggars for punishment.
