  1. Treejumps, Do you want to explain your theory behind this? It doesn't sound right to me but would be intested in your thinking and obviously I don't know every thing. I have been running 45ZP PC for approx last 150 1-3 second delays, half of them stowed. It s my basic all round non slider PC. Greeny
  2. drop should be about the same as a base exit, ask around enouth people have done it. my own thinking is that you should be in full flight aprox 700ft below your exit and then on normal glide ratios greeny
  3. when is the gofast games? who is organising? Greeny

    Quote of the Week

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. Thomas E. Lawrence "It is better to live one day as a tiger, than one thousand years as a sheep". Old tibetan proverb, repeated by Alison Hargreves just before her fatal attempt to become the first woman to solo K2. Greeny

  9. Exactly, Old fashioned........... Get over it! Move into the modern world, borrow the money and forfill your dreams. You could all die tomorrow, BASE or no BASE. Think about this: You are the safest most meticulous skydiver on the drop zone, you have no worries in life because you save for every before you buy it. You don't owe anybody anything. You have been think about stepping it up a gear and starting base. You want to do things right (and so you should) so you are going to save up your money until you have enouth to pay for your first set of gear and your first jump course. The trouble is that on your way to the dropzone tomorrow another car crosses that yellow line (someone else not you), crushing your legs and spine. The doctors tell you you'll never even sit up again with out somebody else to help............. ...............Your life is shattered, and all the things you'd been dreaming about, all the things you'd been waiting for, saving for are gone. Follow you dreams now. Spred your wings and fly now, because tomorow you may not wake. Greeny Just my take on life................
  10. If you die in credit you lose!! Why spend all this time saving for a BASE course, Lie to the bank, borrow the money, go jump. If you make it back then worry about paying it back If you don't we'll who cares if your massivly in Deit! Just my take on life.......... Greeny
  11. Have you read? Thread [What is more valuable? Snatch or Drag?] I give you my opinion on some of it there. or is that where you question came from? I do prime my pins as I get lower. Greeny
  12. Ronald / Will, [ Based on my experiences above and from observation of others I believe on low freefalls a 0.5 second delay is better than a 'throw and go'. ] Depends on the altitude I 'm trying not to put too many numbers on this: I agree with this above a certain height (maybe 200 0r 220ft). As 1 sec of free fall only equals a 16 foot drop and gives the PC and canopy a bit more airspeed to work with, that has to be good. I am also thinking a faster opening is more likely to be on heading. That said once I get down to 175ft and work my way lower I no longer think I can afford to loose that 16ft. At this sort of height I think I need a big PC (currently 48zp)and to get it inflate ASAP, acting as an anchor. My aim is to almost have My PC staying still (as little drop as possible) and me dropping away from it (think PCA with no one holding it). I was told the idea of not throwing my PC up but keeping it in my hand and inflating it prior to jumping. I'll try to explain better. Reaching up hold the PC in your hand (by bridle attachment)and while bringing your hand down, place the PC into the air, inflating it as you do so. The aim is to have the PC inflated and set in the air before you step off the object. I was told this works better with a shorter bridle (no burble due to no airspeed) and less distance to fall before your bridle is at extention. Your pins should be coming out by the time the PC passes the point where your feet were. You can inflate the PC as many times as you like and only step off when you are sure it is properly inflated. I have not tried this yet but will be playing with it when I get back to the US in 8 weeks. My point on all this: I'm not worried about 'Snatch V Drag' my pins are coming out quickly with both. What I am worried about is when I have Minimum altitude, I need to keep it all. But when I have altitude, I can trade for some airspeed and will take as much airspeed as I can get to improve my opening performance. Greeny
  13. On my velcro rig (perigee 2) I prime the velcro on lower stuff (sub 250ft). I lift the edge of the velcro with my fingers before I kit up. On my 2 pin rig (Vertex) I try to get my pin tention as low as possible and my pin tips only just in when low (sub 200ft). My aim is to have my pins only just holding the rig closed, so minimum force is used to pull them. I have a pair of 'Cyprus' closing loops I will fit to my new rig for low stuff (sub 180ft) as they are made from a different material and should slide off the pins easier. If I need to I will get some one on the exit point to hold my pins in and then adjust them just before I jump. Dwain talk's about some of this in his "low freefall" posts. I think that is where I got the idea from. Greeny
  14. That part I totaly agree to..............
  15. JaapSuter, Which would you rather learn in the heat of the moment? Landing on rear risers or Landing that line over I'll take rear risers any time.................... Greeny
  16. I am currently going with DRAG. I throw my PC (48zp) up to bridle extention as I am leaving the object 7 FF's from 175ft My pin tention is low (2 pin) If I am above 200ft then I 'Go & Throw' as normal Greeny
  17. In reply to some questions posed in PCA characteristics: I'm not sure of the figures, but I know when you are low, releasing the breaks wrong, can make you dive into the ground hard. (This has all been posted before you might want to try a search). Try it on higher jumps where you have room for error. This is just my take on things: When you unstow your toggles and let the breaks off you canopy wants to accelerate forward. The faster you let your breaks up the harder it tries to accelerate, the deeper your break setting the more exaggerated this is. I believe what causes the canopy to dive is the canopy accelerating and (initially) your body staying relatively still. Think of a ball on the end of a rope. You kick it and it goes in a circle. Your canopy acts the same way around your body and the only place it has to go is down! If you are high enough, then your body soon catches up and you regain level flight. If you are not high enough then you meet the ground while your canopy is still in its dive (A good PLF helps here). The way to avoid this is to release you toggles and let your breaks up slowly. The slower you do this the flatter your flight will be and if you look at it on low objects (sub 200ft FF, sub 130ft SL / PCA) you will also see that when you let your breaks up slowly you get more distance from the object before you land. There is a noticeable difference. Remember you do not need to be in full flight to flare. On the lower stuff you may only get your breaks half way back up before you need to flare. You can also be doing all this while initiating, minor, flat turns to avoid obstacles on you landing area. Just let your breaks up unevenly and you will turn. As with all things, practice your landings from partial breaks and flat turns. I am not sure at what height I keep my toggles stowed and land on risers, I just go off the feeling that I am too low to unstow my toggles. To land on rear risers with your toggles still stowed: Flare very gently. Rear riser flares need less input as they pull down the whole rear of your canopy, not just your breaks and you are also still in breaks. Don’t forget to PLF. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *The rest of this is something I am only just starting to play with so hopefully someone else will have more info.* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Consider is how deep do you want your break setting for low objects? If object strike is not a problem (Low Bridge), I think a shallower break setting might be better, as your canopy would be flying faster and give a better flare with out releasing the toggles. Also: If you have a low off heading, think about which impact is better to accept: A hard rear riser / toggle turn away from the object, but into the ground Or Bracing and accepting the impact low on the object and any secondary impacts as you drop down. Maybe hitting the wall 10ft up is better (you are wearing body armour right??) I had a 120R opening on a 170ft FF (60R as it opened, but it continued to turn). A little left riser stopped the turn and brought my impact point back left about 6ft, just enough to accept the softest point between the big rocks. You may have no choice but to accept the landing you are given……… Hope this helps Greeny P.S. If any of you or your girls are big enough to use your multi as a G-String you have more problems than I can help you with. I love my Multi and (my full ZP top skin) and although I admit I didn’t always use it at first I now have 130 jumps on it (out of 245 total) and for anything technical where I need a set up I can trust I use my Fox 265 with Multi, V-Tec, and ZP top skin. Apex are currently starting construction of my new rigg. A fox 240 Multi, V-Tec, with ZP top skin. I did 4 PCA's for a friend first jumps this week all on a fox with a multi and all on heading

why jump this thing when you could just jump the beautiful wall they are disfigering to build it. They are the NPS they are suppose to protect this land not build SH*^ on it just my 2 cents............... Hell your taxes are paying for it not mine do what you like!
  21. I mean in a vertical dive from 12000 - 4000. I am trying to transition it out into forward speed but I need more practice to smooth it out and keep the speed. Greeny
  22. Sounds like you are all only working one end of the scale: The other end is best average 212mph Best Max 253mph Average from 2 Pro-Tracks in my S3 I can average 41mph when I need to but it feels too much like being stuck in rush hour traffic.............. Greeny

    Audible glide angle

Would be very intrested in this for wingsuit use. My first Idea was to take a small GPS devise that would and some how move the screen to the visor of my helmet so I could read my vertical / horizontal speeds while in flight. Could we just take out the screen and extend the wires? Also off subject but would be good to be able to read freefall speed in freefall (speed skydiving). Greeny
  24. More of a question than an answer: Would taking the slide off let the canopy open cleaner and more naturally. How much could this affect: Altitude reqired to open? Altitude lost during heading correction / canopy responce time? Glide ratio? Deep break approches and flare (in to that nasty area you have to land in)? I am thinking of low stuff where a few feet may make a difference or not......................... any ideas?? Greeny P.S. sorry for being a spotter!
  25. Tom, I was told it was a few miles up river from you?? Greeny
