  1. As it has already been pointed out multiple times that the man has already made his choice by that point. Second guessing one's choice after the fact is not the same as not having a choice. You've pretty much got it right. BOTH the man and woman decide to have sex and risk getting pregnant. Once a pregnancy occurs, ONLY the woman can terminate the potential for a child at that point - because, she will have to act as life support for the gestation period. If a man or a woman does not want to get pregnant, they can choose to not have sex. By having sex, they are both taking the risk. If a man is feeling that it's unfair, he can choose not to have sex with anyone with whom he does not want to have a child. It's not fair that we have to have cramps and periods and bloating and mood swings every month for 40 years and then suffer menopause for another 5-10 either. Or that we have to pay $20/month for birth control pills. Or that we have to have nausea, swollen ankles, gas, leaky boobs, get fat, have contractions and maybe surgery then post partum depression, stretch marks and saggy boobs either. Who said it was supposed to be fair? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  2. This thread kinda just got thrown away. Shame, because it could've been a meaningful dialogue. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  3. I think the next best thing - for pure equality sake - is to make abortion not an option for either, and require that both parents raise the child. Of course we all know that it would be impossible to force both parents to support and raise the child. So I think the law has it right. It's not equal - but it never can be. The mother can terminate the pregnancy prior to there being a child involved. But the harsh reality is, when they get pregnant, THEY get pregnant. Only the mother has the ability to change it (prior to birth). Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  4. That argument is totally fallacious. It just doesn't work that way in the real world, unless someone is intentionally trying to set up a court battle. No doctor or hospital is going to deny visitation in that situation. Right. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  5. Why does everyone always thinks the government is over reacting when it comes to issues like this? To make people aware of the dangers of the situation and inform them of the what if's can and may prevent hundreds of deaths. Would you rather not be aware and informed of a serious health issues until it is to late to prevent loved ones from dying, or have the government do what they have been doing? Government? The government is doing kinda nothing. The World Health Org. and the Center for Disease Control are doing alot, and the media is putting on a circus act. Wait...what was your question again? 6. This is why we never will. There is a demand for free range eggs and cows. But intensive chicken and beef farming still exists. In no real reduced numbers. It's not a slam against you, it's just the reality. It's much easier to put it out of one's mind because "the McRib is back!" or because you can feed a family of 4 at KFC for under $10. The reality is, the only way to stop factory farming is to reduce consumption of, or better still, stop eating meat. (Cue the "Yummy Bacon" comments now...) 8. My guess is the truth lies somewhere in between/or a combo of both your 2 choices. I'm not sure if you raised a person in a germless environment, fed him good food, gave him plenty of exercise, love, etc. and then exposed him to germs - that his body would fight it off. Although it's absolutely true that diet and stress and chemicals and vaccines and anti-bacterial soaps have made us weaker. I imagine the immune system is like our metabolism. Eat lots of small good meals to keep your body burning energy at an efficient rate. But starving yourself causes your metabolism to slow down. Then when you do eat, your metabolism isn't as efficient. I think it's the constant bombardment of viruses and bacteria that make our immune systems strong. In essence, we do get "sick" a lot when we're young but it's not debilitating and sometimes not even apparent that we're "sick" at all. Either way, +1 on the healthy lifestyle as best prevention. 9. Antibiotics is a red herring. The CAFO theory is a solid one. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,518199,00.html Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  10. Some perspective. There is alot to be said for natural immunity to viruses. Not the least of which is that it's lifelong. It's a little nuts to think we can avoid illness. Avoiding illness doesn't make you healthy - it makes you susceptible. Vaccines for every thing that comes along seem risky because a/ they don't always work; b/ boosters are needed and often it is discovered that more and more boosters than previously thought are needed to maintain immunity and c/ hastily created vaccines have a history of making us sicker than the illness they're intended to prevent. I think it's OK for there to be a lot of media coverage of the subject - because I think the general public is lazy and desensitized. Without media sensation you probably couldn't get people to wash their hands more frequently. And I do think the WHO and the CDC need to watch what this virus does and how it mutates. But all we hear about is how a pandemic is imminent. And quite frankly, I'd like to see less coverage of the college student who had a 101 fever for 3 days, and more coverage of the town in Mexico that is downstream/wind of the Smithfield hog CAFO. 12. Research is showing that strep, not the flu, actually killed most in 1918. Check out the articles from February (2 months ago). Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  13. My math skills are limited but if the average flu kills 36,000 per year in the US, that's about 100 per day. Plus, the one death here was toddler who was infected in Mexico and traveled to Texas for treatment. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

  19. Puppy mills are raided and shut down for much less... I won't argue the should we/shouldn't we eat meat here. But don't they deserve much better treatment if they feel emotions like humans do? We know they suffer. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

  21. I also thought McCain's speech was funnier! Loved it! But to your point, I thought Obama was having a great time laughing at himself - and McCain seemed a bit nervous. Then again, it could've been just that McCain's jokes were funnier! Either way, Obama looked verrry relaxed laughing at himself. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  22. Were these people pressured to register by the same person? Or was it multiple people over a period of time? I'm just trying to figure out what the motive is - since it doesn't equate to fraudulent votes? Are the canvassers getting paid by the registration? Probably a bad move - but possibly necessary - can't imagine that's a job most are willing to do/volunteer for. Has there been evidence of ACORN firing canvassers that are caught or have a history of turning in "suspect" forms? (I say suspect since ACORN is still required to turn them all in) Or has it been shwon to be ACORN policy to create bad forms? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  23. What exactly is the issue with ACORN? From what I can tell, they submitted a bunch of voter registrations that were fraudulent - but according to the law, they MUST submit ALL forms gathered by canvassers - even if signed by elmer fudd. I guess their offices were raided to determine if ACORN itself planted those forms or if they were really gathered by canvassers? Has there been an official determination yet? Also, hasn't it been proven that fraudulent registration forms do not equate to fraudulent votes? Seriously asking... Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
