  1. The fact that it is illegal makes all the difference in the world in your argument. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  2. Just to be clear - lame attempt at sarcasm on my part. (I should learn not to post before coffee number 3.) Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  3. 4 days on, and still no reasonable answer to this question posed. Crime, drugs, milking the welfare system and now they want us to APOLOGIZE for something that happened so long ago? Classic. Thank you SO much for illustrating my point far better than I ever could have. Geez, I guess I should've made the sarcasm more clear. I was trying to illustrate your point for sure. 5. You don't see the difference in every one of your examples? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  6. The world's total meat supply has more than tripled in the last 50 years. From 70 million tons to 290 million tons. Livestock production now generates nearly a fifth of the world's greenhouse gases - more than transportation does. And transportation emissions are pretty highly regulated. Here is an interesting article that only touches on all the ways livestock production has evolved into an industry that is damaging our health and our environment. Reducing consumption and demand is the only way to reverse this trend. Producers aren't going to volunteer to cut production. And as we all know by the "I love meat" crowd, it isn't an easy sell to get people to give up a percentage of their consumption. So, making meat as expensive as it should be will go a long way. 7. Here's the thing about that: Food animals are a business. Most of the "farmers" believe that it is all about the business. I don't see where taxing or regulating emissions is anything new? It's been proven that methane from agribusiness is a significant if not major contributor to global warming. I personally advocate that animals are animals are sentient beings. I advocate humane treatment and even reduction of consumption. If taxing methane output helps to reduce consumption, I'm all for it. It's not crazy at all to me. I still can appreciate a good joke.
  8. How many vegans does it take to change a lightbulb? None, vegans can't change anything.

  10. Then maybe you'll like this? Before I open this... you didn't get it from BillyVance... did you? No. But it was banned from the Superbowl. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi

  12. stopping it is like stopping wuffos from saying "you'd never catch me jumping out of a perfectly good airplane" it's a shame - the nuttiness of militant vegetarians deserves original and funny mockery, not just the same-o, same-o I spent 20 minutes trying to come up with a skydiving analogy to fit. I guess that's what happens when you haven't jumped in 5 years. But yours is perfect.
  13. What's the new twist? They've always used celebrities and other influential people in their campaigns. It's a proven marketing tactic. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  14. Oh how I wish you weren't joking. If you were referring to me as the repost police - I don't care how many times something is posted. That "joke" is SO cliché, so juvenile, so expected (right after "Yum, Meat!") - in fact, you can't find a thread about animal rights or peta that doesn't include it. It belongs in the bonfire. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  15. *sigh* Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Annnnnd here. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  16. OH PUH-LEEEEEEEEEASE! I'm sure someone called up peta and asked for a comment. Wait! What's this?! "When asked for comment, here's the statement PETA released: "He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act." If anything, don't they get credit for reminding us he's not The Buddha? Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  17. I'm absolutely convinced he was not talking about her 14 year old daughter. I absolutely believe him that he (they, his writers) thought the 18 year old was with her. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  18. True. Sure it is. And if enough people think like me, then she won't be elected. Last I heard he was from Hawaii. And not wealthy. Clinton was from Arkansas. The Bush family was wealthy. I don't get your point here. I think maybe you mean I require my candidates to be smart. I guess I do. But I don't think that's arrogant. I think thinking you can capture women's votes by nominating a woman solely because she's a woman is arrogant. My response wasn't about her obscurity per se. Had she been brilliant or knowledgeable or informed it wouldn't be an issue. The fact that she was obscure and doofy and not knowledgeable and uninformed means that she was chosen because she is a woman. Long way to get back to my original point. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  19. Obscurity is not a geographical term. She was yanked into the limelight so fast she wasn't even properly vetted. To me that means she was an unknown on the national stage. To me that means she was a knee-jerk reaction. So what possible reason did they have to do that other than "the women vote". It was shallow and insulting. Once there, on the national stage, she proved over and over again that she was unqualified to hold the position for which she was running. I live in Philadelphia. Before that, Richmond, Va. Westerville Ohio, San Francisco, Fort leavenworth, Fort hood, Berlin Germany, Fort Dix, Benning and Rucker. I've lived a lot of places and met a lot of people. I don't care where you come from. I never said: I voted for Obama. He's none of that. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  20. I also think the "feminist" spin on this issue is a load of crap. I'm 1000 times more insulted that Sarah Palin was nominated - plucked from obscurity to capture the Hilary voters - than I am about a joke he made regarding her 'look'. She was put out there because she is a woman. Not at all for her qualifications/legitimacy as a VP nominee. And we were expected to FALL FOR THAT. FAR more insulting than a bad joke. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  21. The Palins trotted their pregnant, un-wed teenage daughter and her hapless boyfriend out on the campaign trail as an example of family values. Then sent her on an abstinence crusade! They put her in the public eye. They made her publicity about underage sex. I didn't like Letterman's jokes. But I think has been blown way out of proportion and is yet another tool to keep the Palins in the news. And Todd Palin's assertion that the joke was about rape is ridiculous. 22. Your reply to PLFxpert seemed like an attack on her credibility and then a dismissal of her point of view. I guess you assumed she was vegan and pushing an agenda? This is why I lamented the move of this thread to SC. Most times it's all or nothing over here. Sorry if I misinterpreted your post. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  23. I already do all that, Bill. The only way you will get me to eat a twinkie or a fast food burger is to shove it down my throat at gunpoint. My point was about all the hypocrits who claim to care about animal walfare and the environment and and when the discussion is over they drive away in their Hummers with the premium leather seats... You seem angry. I suggest trying not to achieve perfection and recognizing that every little effort you make in the world really does matter. It's less pressure and much more rewarding. Also, just because someone else is a hypocrite, doesn't mean the cause isn't worthwhile. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  24. I say just perfect the reversible vasectomy and be done with it. Little snip = no babies Ready for babies? Tie 'em back together! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
  25. That's oppression not biology. I'm not advocating that there couldn't be an agreement between a man and woman that the man could "opt out". If the woman doesn't put the man's name on the birth certificate, he's out. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
