  1. Of course, how stupid of me.... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  2. On one hand, we could force students to slide in a couple down wind landings, and mandate that they perform some flat turns, but I can't help but wonder if injuries would actually increase while practicing. Granted, they would probably be less severe, but how many broken ankles while practicing are worth a broken femur by accident? This isn't to be taken literally, I'm just trying to make a point. 3. In that case I apologize. I was under the impression that everybody wanted some sort of regulation because low time jumpers were getting broken under small canopies. Further, a majority of the 'low turn' accidents were a direct result of a high performance turns. Put two and two together, and you have low time jumpers under small canopies, executing high performance turns and getting hurt. THIS was the problem I was hoping to find a solution to. Again, my apologies, wasn't trying to hijack your thread. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  4. Maybe, but I certainly wouldn't be crying 'foul' when people reacted to my techniques. And that's their prerogative. Having been in the military myself, I can see where they're coming from though. On determining innocence or guilt, this is incorrect. In determining severity of punishment, yes, you are correct, those things are certainly considered. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  5. I couldn't agree with you more! Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  6. Given the subject, you're probably not going to get many people posting their resumes. Just accept the fact that their are things going on that you don't see... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  7. You can't be serious... multiple choice questions to test canopy knowledge? Or are you suggesting that we force everyone to perform high performance maneuvers, even if they have no interest in swooping? Or are you suggesting we only test things like obstacle avoidance, flat turns, etc.? None of these options appear to address the problem at hand. If anything, incidents will probably increase as a result of these testing methods. Why? People will pass their D license test, and poof, now they're competent canopy pilots, ready to fly any canopy at any wingloading, right? I'm with Ian and Kim. You want to swoop, you have a whole new, very distinct set of criteria to meet. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  8. Look into the Neptune Wave. It's an audible only version of the Neptune. It's a cheaper alternative to the full featured Neptune if you're only going to use it as an audible. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  9. I'm on your side dude, but it's extremely likely that they were mercenaries.... There are a number of companies that contract with the U.S. Gov't (CIA, DEA, etc.) to carry out work/missions that the U.S. can't (or doesn't want to) be associated with. 10. The Iraqi was attempting to deceive the American troops by playing dead, just as others had done in previous days, just before they detonated explosives, wounding Allied Troops. It's easy to play Monday Morning Quarterback and say he was unarmed. This particular soldier saw an 'unarmed' soldier (just like this one) detonate an explosive in the exact same scenario the previous day. It killed at least one if I remember correctly. As I mentioned before, if the Iraqi had been sitting there, with his hands up when the Marines entered, he probably wouldn't have been shot. No, I guess I don't really consider him a 'hero', since he didn't go above and beyond his duty. He certainly wasn't in the wrong though; and obviously the same legal system that just convicted several soldiers of wrong doing, felt the same way. I probably would have done the same thing. I won't risk my life over someone who is deceiving me, especially after they just tried to kill me. I definitely would not have executed the pilot in this recent situation. Hypothetically, if I were having a bad day, perhaps I would have roughed him up a little, but that's the extent of it... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  11. Yeah, your absolutely right, only white, male, Christians, should be punished for their crimes. In regards to your tag line, I don't know what that chip on your shoulder is from, but get over it. Your implication is extremely racist. If you're going to call yourself a 'Second class citizen', don't be upset when people treat you like one.... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  12. Ok, maybe it's that you just don't understand what the Marine was afraid of: Wounded enemy soldiers had been pretending to be dead, but were laying on grenades or other explosives. When they were searched (and/or helped), they would roll the grenade out. Are wounded U.S. soldiers known to walk around with their hands up in the air, asking for help, then attack? No, they aren't. Since there's no precedent of this, I don't see how you can defend this action. If the Iraqi you're referring to was laying on the ground, and begging for help with outstretched arms, and then the Marine shot him - you probably wouldn't see us on here calling him a 'hero'... probably quite the contrary. In a nutshell, the Iraqi that was killed several months back posed a very real threat to the soldiers. The wounded pilot, asking for help, did not. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? 13. Are you honestly telling me you can't see the difference between the two situations?! I've always respected your points of view on other posts, even though I didn't always agree with them, but I'm really kind of disgusted that people can't differentiate the two situations here... And FYI, the initial reports are that the person shot wasn't even an American, so I'm not just 'defending my own' - I'm defending the poor guy that was clearly unarmed, injured, and begging for help, regardless of nationality. 14. According to the specs, the only reserve I should jump is a PDR 281. So I'm supposed to find a rig that'll hold a 281 reserve and a 150 main, or quit jumping?! I'm overloading my reserve, not because I want to, but because I had limited alternatives when it came to equipment selection. I know PD has a new material now that packs smaller, thereby allowing me to increase size, but I'm not sure about max weight.... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  15. Smaller canopies are actually more structurally sound than larger ones, due to less distance between spans, ie more support per square foot. Needless to say, this is a poor reason to downsize... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  16. I've heard similar stories regarding JW. Although this group does good in the community to maintain it's social acceptance, this 'religion' has ruined many, many lives. Smiles' is just one more sad story to add to the list. I try to be an open minded and tolerant person, but I admit, I struggle with this one. I'm honestly not very educated on religion, but I have a hard time respecting any faith that divides families. As I said, this isn't the only case. A coworker died, and part of his immediate family (JW ones) wouldn't attend his service, because they refused to set foot in a Christian church... Sorry for your loss. 17. Just to add to the statistical computation - what are the odds of the only two incidents both being caught on video?!?! Truly amazing... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  18. You're exactly right - I had some Baptists come to my house, and since I've been looking for a church to start attending, I invited them in. The first question out of their mouth was, 'If you were to die today, do you know you would go to heaven?' I responded with yes, and explained why - and the gentleman looked me in the eye and point blank told me I was going to hell, because I hadn't 'been saved'. I guess being baptized Protestant (non denominational) isn't good enough to get you into Heaven, since we don't have the concept of 'being saved' in our religion. The poor Mormon's have it even worse though - only 200 (I think?) of them will get into Heaven, if I understand that correctly. Sheesh, can you imagine how bad it would suck being with the same 199 people for eternity? Sounds more like hell to me! I wonder if all their wives count towards that number?! 19. Open season on me!!! I guess there isn't much sport in hunting such easy prey. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  20. Good God! I actually agree with you!!!! Now if you could take this logic into other threads. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  21. That's one of the great things about this country, nobody is going to convince/coherce/force you to stay. Don't like it here? You can leave at any time you like. You listed quite a few reasons why you shouldn't stay - now you tell me, why are you still here if you feel so unwanted? Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  22. Interesting... this came from the UK, so all the U.S. bashers can bite their tongue on this one! Please read the article, not the summary. It's very interesting! A new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose by 40% in the two years after the weapons were banned. The research, commissioned by the Countryside Alliance's Campaign for Shooting, has concluded that existing laws are targeting legitimate users of firearms rather than criminals. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1440764.stm Trivial Homocide Statistics in U.S. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/homtrnd.htm#contents Interesting trend - look at the trend in 'justifiable homocide'. Law enforcement is down, citizens are up.... and people want to take our guns away? Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!

  24. You rock! Great idea! Ironic how she isn't the slightest bit concerned about the message she's sending by not returning something that doesn't belong to her... Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
  25. Maybe not necessarily 'the rest of the world', but there's got to be some reason we have to limit the number of visa's we issue. Some countries have fences and border patrols to keep their citizens in - the U.S. needs them to keep people out. People routinely die stowing away on aircraft, boats, and cargo containers to get into the U.S. I don't know many people risking their lives trying to leave here. Jeff Shhh... you hear that sound?
